What sort of things has this been said to? How long has it been since it was said? Was Soon™ perhaps a translation problem where they actually meant Later™?

Soon means never. Not because they don't want to implement whatever they're talking about, but because CCP never gets to the back of the queue. There's always something more important to work on.

soon™ = possibly somewhere 2 expansions from now... unless things get in the way and we'll change our priorities once again.

Soon™: Would like to do it, or hope to do it, but while a good or great idea, has very small likelihood of ever being done due to great or super ideas that take more time and accomplish less.

Soon™ just means they don't actually know when but it's soon.

The "Soon™" diversionary answer was given by CCP just recently for another thread asking for the capacity to use true-type / scalable fonts in Eve UI.

What we need is a Now™ answer, especially for the ridiculous tiny fonts used in Eve.

A developer saying: The feature will be implemented xx.xx.xxxx = bad. Will be cause of whinage in the forums when feature can not be implemented at xx.xx.xxx for any number of reasons.

Developer saying: We actually hired a guy dealing with the problem, feature will be implemented as soon as it's ready for release = good. People know developer is aware of the problem and working on it.

CCP should look into their idea board and release a list of priorities.

CCP is in a sad state when 'Soon' becomes the norm.

I believe that 'soon™' has become more than it originally seemed to be - it has transgressed the border between virtual reality and real life and has actually made its way into many people's everyday talk and speech. More often than not I find myself actually using the word 'soon', or the dutch equivalent, 'binnenkort', when somebody asks me when something wil be ready. These are clear signs that a new era of internetification of everyday speech is among us, having started with 'lol' and 'wtf', but slowly morphing into something that can no longer be controlled and will eventually lead to some sort of ******ed communication resembling 'lol i pwn y00'.

I am currently preparing a thesis on this subject, but work on it is progressing slower than I anticipated, but it should be finished soon™

Receive bonus points for repeating that message over a course of at least 2 years.

What happens at CCP is something like this:

1. Make a list of all the important things that need fixing (rockets, cynos, assault frigates, blasters etc...)

2. Get Distracted by shiny stuff which then take priority for no real reason at all, along with adding in a few 'improvements' which no one has asked for or even likes, which goes in front of the queue of things that actually need fixing.

3. ???

4. Profit!

This time they actually hired someone. I don't think that guy will get payed for nothing in the next two years.
