..The donation aspect is what you really need to stress, T'Amber. Even me and you got into it once, I'll throw some isk your way. Not because I think T'Amber will award with with fame and riches, but because IF this is not a scam, I would love to see what kind of Eve-wide event you could pull off with 300b. The one time this isn't a scam makes up for the 9 times that it is.

To me its both;
If you aren't interested in actually taking part in the event I have planned or do you care about what it will be then you're donating. Donating is expecting nothing in return.

If do want to take part, have an interest in creating something for community, or are just curious as to what the hell this is about, you'll be investing. Saying that; its not an isk return that you'd be getting.

Although it is possible that a portion of the isk sent will be used in other investments to boost the fund I haven't got any plans currently to do so as I have absolutely no time free atm.

Not interested. Just because I needed to block multiple characters who spammed channels on which I was present with vote for T'Amber msg.

Thats what the block button is for, however saying that anyone who promotes anything for me has strict guidelines for the amount of posts and pastes they can make. If they follow the rules I give them they should be posting alot less than all the other spahm - Once every 10mins in a local, and once every 15mins in a relevant trade channel.

Spend your own isk, not other people's? Given how well known you are I wouldn't be surprised if you had ten times the amount you're asking for tbh.

Gave almost all of it away. Although I don't have exact amounts I think its around 450bil in prizes and gifts given to pilots in total, with about 150bil or so of that given outside of SOE main events.

I'll reply to some of the other posts when I get back from work.

May I suggest that the first free event you carry out after raising 300b is to deploy can-art outside each of the major trade hub stations spelling out LOLZ SCAMZORED!!111?

Also, post screenies in this thread.

LOL @ MD People taking this all way too seriously.

Really, all T'Amber Events til now have delivered some major lulz, as promised - and this is the reason why i will donate 25 mil, something I wouldn't mind to lose.

I can understand, however, that there are people who arent part of it and hence don't want to invest because they think it's shady YARRRR!!

I think I should point out that I don't take this seriously at all.

However at best this belongs in the Events forum, General Discussion if not there, and (at worst) it does not belong on this site as panhandling. IMHO no matter how prettily formatted, no matter the rep or lulz provided, the rules are simply the rules.

hmmmm 5-10ish, closer to 5.

EIB, EBank, DBank, Curzon, Goons; not in order...maybe Curzon was less than 300b...anyway, you get the idea: big, but nothing ground-breaking.

Curzon was only 50 bille if i remember right. He claimed to get more investments ingame but that can not be vrified and as such should not be taken into account in my book.
Goons , i guess you are refering to karttoon walking off with the alliance wallet and not yih goonscam since that only got a 3ish bille investment and karttoon's alliance rip-off should be seen as a theft not a scam.

EIB i have no idea off how much that was.As far as i know Ebank/ricdic is number one followed by Dbank but as said i do not know where EIB fits in.

ON the topic itself as shar pointed out this does not belong on MD.

How much was involved in the Ihatalo scam/disappearance/fiasco? 30B or so?

this is extremely hard to measure as you would have to get inflation adjusted numbers for past scams; also consider that the price indices in the QENs do not account for the non-material/relative value of items:
the possibilities to earn ISK were greatly expanded during the course of this game but much of that "new" ISK was soaked up in newly developed products, so prices for the old ones didn't change as much as they would have without this increasing & shifting demand.

People might still buy exactly the same quantity of some ship at the very same price as a few years ago but now they also have a shiny Tengu sitting in their hangar besides it.
The "value" of the ship in terms of the effort required to be able to buy it has decreased, but its price is still unchanged because demand has increased and shifted.
ISK is worth less now in units of labor but has largely retained its value in units of items...

An alternative way would be to convert all ISK amounts into dollars based on the corresponding GTC cost (which you can lookup on the forums) or historical data from ISK sellers/buyers - you could then easily compare the inflation-adjusted dollar values. However, it is questionable if the "value" of a scam in EVE should really be determined by RL economic circumstances (and in most cases the dollar value of a scam is probably only used for boasting and carries no relevance in the scammer's decision making).

Hard to know how to classify that one. I thought I'd read that Ricdic only walked with 250bil but it depends on whether you want to see that as Ricdic scamming EBANK or EBANK scamming its customers. So, do you add up all the bank's losses into one scam or do you divide them between the various/numerous people who either scammed the bank or used the bank to scam the depositors?

If you take that seperatly Dbank would be on top with 300 bille i believe followed by ricdic with 250 bille.Ebank is a tough one since if they get to return the isk -yes even if it is after years- technically it can not be seen as a scam but more deception/missmanagement since the customers did not get any interest over that period.
Offcourse there are a lot of customers who where left/pushed out in time due to change of management like the API key input in wich case those could be seen as a form of scam and added up but i have no clue what amount that would be.

Almost all of you are assuming I'm like everyone else in eve and only interested in myself. Some quick research will show you that I've spent considerable time and effort in our community in some form or another. I'm not completely stupid, the reason why the post is so clear (which may make it look idiotic) as I'm trying to be as transparent as possible.

Well those players were wrong. This is not the forum section for charity/events, this is a forum section for Market Discussions and for investments in businesses which sell stuff or otherwise make money from the market. Note the "make money" part in the previous sentence. Your intentions may be laudable, but your framing of this as an "investment" is laughable. You can redefine 'investment' all you like, but here an investment has a (positive) return in isk. From what I've been able to make out so far, you're offering nothing tangible in return for giving you money.

There is a place for everything, but this is probably not the place for your thing.

(If you look at me, you'll notice that I'm not selling shares in EACS here in MD - as shares in businesses often are - but in Sell Orders, with the message that they won't give any return very explicitly spelled out.)

Once there is a decent amount of isk in the fund my hope is that it can be partially invested in multiple areas so that it can increase itself. This could possibly be why they suggested this topic, although I can and have made this amount of isk before I do not have anywhere the time to do so again - nor am I upto play with IPOs or other investments other people may be offering. I'm hoping to get both suggestions and isk from this post.

Its quite apparent on the first page that the return on the investment is not in isk.
People often ask why I invest so much time, isk and effort running and sponsering events with no expectation of making any isk (and often loosing it). The main reason is that it gives me the oppurtunity to be apart of something bigger than myself which I enjoy immensly, but also because I believe in this game and I'd like for it to grow - and I can play apart of this by supplying things for pilots to do that are both fun, and creative.

Regardless of how this thread goes I'm still going to continue doing what I do, and the event I have planned will just take longer to eventuate; I'm aware I will be the biggest contributor to this fund.

What safeguards do you have in place to ensure that the money will be properly invested instead of given to failures/scammers? Who will manage the fund? Who will keep an eye on the manager?

What the essay about your motivations has to with it, I don't know. You should be selling your business plan (if it exists), not yourself.

In short, you've not done the proper research and preparation to even get close to being taken seriously. The expectation that people here would even be remotely interested in giving you isk with just the statement "I'm T'Amber and I'm famous, give me isk, it's fun" is more than a little misguided.

I don't see any problems with investing donated isk to make the fund bigger, or so that it meets the target quicker - if you send me isk, I'm assuming you're going to trust what I do with it otherwise why bother?

Regarding what the isk could be invested in, well thats part of what this post was for...

You are correct, investment is normally in the expectation of a increase in monetary return.
However it can also mean spending or devoting for futuure advantage or benefit (ie. invested much time and energy in getting a good education.) or to devote morally or psychologically, as to a purpose; commit. (ie. Men of our generation are invested in what they do, women in what we are"). My purpose is to benfit the community using an investment of money to fund a massive event in the hope of benifiting our community somehow (or atleast entertain it with trollage) - however saying that, I realise that this particular thread topic is quite specific and of course there would be an expectation of meaning which is why I've modified the post as was suggested.

And my Business plan? I'm going to spend all the isk in a spectacular way, and then gief out the loots to the winners in creative ways. Read the first post again, it should cover that somewhere. Very Happy

I respect your opinion Estel, but you have it slightly wrong. I've been designing this particular event and doing similar projects like this successfully for over a year now.
If we can't get the fund to a useable level, thats fine - I'm neither in a rush nor expecting this project to happen quickly.

It may look like that, but I'm not expecting much from everyone - The assumtion is that I will be the major contributor to this fund and thats cool although People donate and give me isk and prizes all the time for SOE and that is what I'm hoping for. I also like proving the people who call scam without thought wrong Very Happy

I wasn't talking about your preparation for the events, but rather your research and preparation for requesting money on MD. There are written and unwritten rules any serious offer should adhere to. You haven't tried to comply with them, or even shown that you're aware of them. I'm not saying you would've gotten the isk if you had done your research and had properly prepared your request, but at least you would've been taken more seriously.

Why the hedge?

Also note that though it is transparently stated, it also contradictory stated:
"If the event fails you may not get your full isk donation/ investment back"
"If this fails to go anyway all isk donations of over 1million will be returned in full."
Which is it? Or is this the ambiguity where the "probably" in the quote above comes from?
And what are the criteria for a failure?
