I have taken the time and bought the skill books and equipment needed to scan. I found my first Mag site after weeks of scanning and finding nothing but anomalies, which are good for rats but not much else. I hit the mag site and cracked the cans to find nothing but regular old salvage, not good salvage, but salvage that I can get from belt rats. Tbh I've found more in level one missions. I quickly found another mag site, this one needed a salvager, not a codebreaker as the first one did. I began to get a bit excited, maybe I'll hit it big! Nope, just a few scraps. I have found no more than 1.5 million in any anomaly, complex or site that I've scanned down. Exploration seems to be a complete waste of time. Do I have to join a 0.0 alliance to see anything good come from all the effort, isk and training timne that I've wasted on scanning, hacking and codebreaking or am I just unlucky? It just seems to me that ccp should put a little more into these sites to make scanning them down more rewarding.

Yep, running missions in high security is more profitable.

I do not know about exploration in null, maybe there it is worth the time and danger.

Mag sites and Radar sites both have very poor and outdated loot/salavage tables. Null sec sites are better than high-sec and low-sec sites, but still not nearly as good as combat related stuff. Until CCP changes what drops form these site, yeah you pretty much wasted your time and would be better off doing missions.

Making long story short I will advise you to fly around different regions.

Some regions have tendency spawn mostly ladars, some magnetometrics. Both of them quiet pure from reward prospective.
Once you find region populated with radars you make decent ISKs.

Exploration, and hunting radars in particular, is very lucruative, especially in hi sec.

Therefore, radars is one of the best, if not the best way to start making ISKs for new players with just few days of training.

I usually get good returns from high security Mag sites.

Just yesterday I scanned a Mag site in 0.5 that had 5 cans. I looted 11 Armor Plates (T1 salvage) in one can, 1 Logic Circuit (T2 salvage) in another can, 1 Jury Rigging skill book in another can and 7 Burned Logic Circuits (T1 salvage) in the fourth can. One of the cans was empty.

Don't give up on exploration. Take some time, check the map and try to set up some 'routes', systems that are off the travel path. Make some notes, recheck the systems and if they offer good exploration returns with lot's of Cosmic Signatures, log em into a route that you can do repeatedly. I have specific routes (2 routes in each Factions space) set up in Empire space that I travel to and scan regularly. A typical route will consist of 3 to 8 systems which are located 1 to 3 jumps away from each other.

Radar and Magnetometric sites should be the main objective with the Unknown Cosmic Signature's (Combat sites) as secondary since those have a good chance of dropping Faction loot.

0.0 explorations is obviously better and you will make more ISK that way but you also take on the inherent risks of 0.0. Last time I was plexing I was rather ticked all I got was a 110mil ISK overseers effect at the end of my escalation chain. I mean I had to drop carriers on the Hub I should get something a little bit better.

You must either ninja plex and risk losing the plex to the region owners. once you get to a quite area you can stay for some time, but getting there you have to go through choke points and camps while dodge roams without a intel channel. Not exactly easy. You also have the disadvantage of not being able to use a cov ops to scan if you are solo and will lose out on the tougher plexes because they are unscanable without good strength.

The other option is join a 00 alliance, some anonymous pet or renter should not be that hard to get into.

Even then you have to worry about camps and roams coming through your pve area.

I have plexed in high sec and 0.0 and a little bit in low sec. Plexing in high sec is not very profitable. Only the battle plexes are worthwhile and nice to do as a switch from missioning, but do not come close to lvl4 missionrunning ISK wise. Also because of the crammed nature of Empire space, you have a lot of competition and often if you find a plex you will find people already doing it.

0.0 plexing on the other hand, is HUGELY profitable. Drops depends offcourse, but most of the time they are pretty nice, and sometimes you hit the jackpot. I have done plexes which earned me 1.5 billion ISK. I estimate 0.0 plexing is about 100 million ISK/hour. Its also more fun. Scanning, getting results, and hoping that sig is a pith penal plex, instead of some lame wormhole. :D

Offcourse you would have to be in a stable alliance to be able to make that money. Getting out there on your own is very risky, and you probably wind up being hunted by the local tribes or random roaming gangs. And a pretty high chance of dying to gatecamps.

This is the correct post.

Once upon a time Mag and Radar (mostly Radar) were jackpots in 0.0, resulting in some cases 1bn in loot in an execution. Due to the way that invention is structured (Esoteric ship data interfaces etc do not decay when used) the demand isnt there in the market, which results in an extreme surplus, which drives down prices, and in the end, the sites arent worth it to run.

Mag, Radar, and Grav are all but useless now. They did add wormholes, which became the flavor of the month for a while, and did have nice returns, but I cant really comment on the profits from these.

Really what you are looking for are the 8/10, 9/10 and 10/10 plexes in 0.0, and yes for that you have to join a 0.0 alliance.

Obviously everyone has seemed to forget about Decryptors from Radar sites which some sell for up to 15 mill ISK each, depending on the Region. Also Mag sites will drop T1 and T2 salvage which is used to build rigs. Both sites will also drop skillbooks and BPC's. With high skill level and a good ship fit, can knock out a lot of Mag/Radar sites in high sec very quickly without having to worry about unwanted PvP. The trick is knowing which systems to look in.
