IMHO, all the ******s that bag on Battleclinic either:

a) have a **** house ranking but think they are really good in blobs cause they can press f1 - f4 for max killmail *****, and cant understand why they are still ranked #10000
b) have had a loadout trolled cause its sucks.
c) think they are too cool for battleclinic but in reality they haven't undocked in a year and just like to troll eve cause there is nothing better for them to do.
d) have absolutely no reason to bag on BC but do it anyway to fit in with the 'too cool' dudezzz. but in reality, they also suck at eve.

Battleclinic is awesome and **** you all the people that h8 on it.

I'll be updating over at out-of-pod, but though the folks here might like it first.

Update 24.3.10

Our vendor took 9 hours to diagnose the problem. Essentially, the drive head of the main database server on the primary drive apparently malfunctioned, which caused a loss of sectors around where the email server software sits, and in the MFT. The HDD struggled on and wrote the corruption to the mirror drive. This is why RAID-0 is fault tolerant but not a substitute for a backup.

The original plan before we found that the OS was corrupt was to replace the faulty drive, let the RAID array write the mirrored data back to the good drive, then swap again and let the new drive write to the brand-new secondary. The OS corruption prevented this and left us with two choices:

Choice 1: Install 2 new drives, wipe the server, and reinstall / restore. Downtime: 48 hours from today.
Choice 2: Order a new server, move DNS, clean install on a much more powerful server, basically make lemonade from these lemons. Downtime expected: 12-24 hours from now.

We're going with #2.

We really appreciate everyones patience as we work through this very difficult time.

I would like to comment on a few things about Battleclinic.

The killboard does experience some issues with fake KM's and Sisi KM's, but we mods try our best to manage thousands of killmails every day and delete both Sisi and fake killmails. We recently added a function where you submit your FULL API, and the killboard only pulls killmails from your API feed. That prevents fake killmails and Sisi killmails, but it won't be perfect until everybody submits their full API's.

On the loadout section, we spend many hours every day monitoring loadouts. Yes, some new players like to post fail cap ships because they get great tanks relative to a Battleship, but they are just so wrong. We lock such threads, along with other loadouts troll loadouts and dream fits. But for those fits that are just bad, we help the OP develop the fit throughout multiple updates and explain why the changes should be made. Many loadouts from years ago were highly rated, but with new theories and practice, we have added a "recommended" tag. You can search the recommended loadouts for that ship type and will find only mod-approved loadouts (aka the best of the best).

But overall, if you find any threads that need to be locked, deleted, cleaned up, or just monitored, please feel free to PM a mod with a link to that page.

choice1: installing 2 new drives would mean they are already wiped. restore from backup should not take 48 hours.

choice2: a new server could use the same Ip settings as the old server, so moving DNS is bogus.

you either dont understand what the techs are telling you or your support is *** you.

really, just switch to a virtual environment so your OS runs on abstracted hardware and you can copy the vm and run it from anywhere in a pinch.

Fair enough mate. I have to confess it's been a long time since I've looked, but in view of what you've said, might be worth taking a look around again.

I know right.....next tell them to try something other than RAID 0. Perhaps 10 or 50.

I have no problem with battleclinic, I think it's a good site actually. Hope they're back up soon. I mean heck how can people who use it for free complain about free content/intel....yet they still do. You BC guys, keep doing what you're doing. I appreciate it TBH. although I don't understand all those other games you have on there. :)

Huh... Why all the the BC hate? Personally I think it's a great site. Use it all the time to check out potential targets and keep track of my own. Plus its free.

As for shipfits... well... if you need to check on forums in order to fit your ships, then you deserve what you get.

I'll bite that one. I'm a Sys Admin. Been there and restored servers in the wee hours of the morning, slept on the raised floors in my winter coat, etc. etc..

option 1: You have to obtain 2 new drives. Might be a matter of walking to compUSA/whatever but if you need 15k SAS, FC or old SCA 80-pin drives, it'll have to come from a vendor / mail order. Unless you got 24/7/5 contract, that means tomorrow morning. Add a day cause it's after 5pm and you won't make the cut off for FEDEX/UPS 9am delivery (if you're lucky, next day 4pm). *THEN* you have to rebuild/restore.

I was lead to believe they're using dedicated hosting however so they might not even *own* the H/W.

option 2: Moving DNS is needed if you move facility. I seem to have read that this was indeed what they were doing. Presumably server is being provisioned by new facility (managed and/or dedicated hosting vs. colo, a rant for another day). Pro: they probably already have the H/W on hand and can get you up in hours on a new installed box. Con: There will indeed be a new IP.

Edit: Kind of funny for sys admins (from my work emails)

You're pretty much correct in your post. We lease heavy-duty hardware from professional dedicated hosting providers. We use as much as 10TB BW a month and certainly could never run BattleClinic off a desktop in our mother's garage, as compelling as that might sound sometimes. Mom's cookies. Yum.

There's a post on BC that explains everything in detail. Because you guys who depend on us deserve to know.

Incorrect. We have a team of mods who regularly reviews disputed kills and deletes where appropriate. They're all volunteers -- nobody gets paid for running BattleClinic -- so if you would like to become part of the solution, volunteer as a mod and you can help us respond to disputes.

Can't figure that one out either.

Over the years BattleClinic has been VERY generous to me and my eve gaming ...

They've sponsored generously events for me on several occasions.

They've hosted TS for my alliance at one point.

AND they have all my kills and losses dating back several years from when I started ...

ALL FOR FREE ... I guess the newer generation of Eve pilots are spoiled cuz they can make ISK make a million isk in an hour .. (NOT like a month when the game first started) ... and pay for services now when there are a ton of them ...

Meh ... BattleClinic has my seal of approval Wink
