Hello guys, I was thinking about moving into a class 3 or 4 solo or with a couple of friends. We were planning on setting up a medium tower with defenses. We are planning to do the complexes as well as mine for a thanatos. Now how do I go about building a thanatos in a WH. And how long would it take to mine the minerals solo, or with 2-3 people.

Need a ship assembly array large enough to make it (forget if large will do it, may need xl), then bpc's for all the components and finished thanatos. There are websites out there that list the rough mineral needs to build them. Gravimentric sites last a few days once found, but sites (all sites and anoms) have a delay before they respawn. And I would guess a medium pos isn't big enough to put proper defenses and a ship assembly array large enough for a carrier, may need to just go large.

How long it will take to "mine a thanatos" largely depends on how you mine it.

There are 4 ways to do it (the last one I will mention can probably be ignored since you're in w-space)
Listed worst to best

1) Mine the highest value ores and just save the minerals you'll be able to use for building, then slowly building up your stock till you have enough
2) Mine exact ore types you need to get the minerals to build it
3) Mine the highest value ores sell leftover stock and buy the minerals you miss
4) Mine highest value ore, sell minerals and buy the ship

How long it will take depends on too many factors to give a good estimate.

"mine for a thanatos"

If you have any idea how pathetic this sounds.

It might be a better idea setting up a large tower if you are going to be storing the ore and building a capital ship in a WH.

How much ore is available in your WH is a variable figure, dependant on the sites you get and the respawn rate. There is also the variable that is how often you mine.

Do your own research. Find out the material requirements and then test how much you can mine from one site as a team. Then do the estimating.

If you're just going to build one, it would be a lot better to make the ISK in the most efficient way you know and just buy a Thanatos on the market.

Right but I want it inside the wormhole, and the only way to get one in is build it inside.

wrong buckeroo.. just need to find a wormhole with a mass high enough to fit a carrier through - class 5 I believe..

Head on over to the market interface and search on "Thanatos."

The second result should be the correct blueprint, i.e., Thanatos Blueprint.

Right click that blueprint and all of the building information is there for your reference.

Good luck and two thumbs up for your ambition!

Oh, and you will definitely want a large POS for this endeavor.

Well, he said he was in C3 or C4... probably too lazy to find connecting WH's.

As for mining for a Thanatos? You'll need the requisite skills, obviously. Solo, it'll take you quite some time unless you're a macro, since you'll first have to mine millions of minerals' worth of ore, plus reshipping every time sleeper rats show up in the grav site. Then there's the possibility that an ******* like me comes in and ganks you and pods you, or something like that.

Then there's the question of why the hell do you need a Thanatos in a class 4, and what are you going to do with it when you leave w-space?

Because a Thanatos can repair POS shields a heck of a lot faster than a Basilisk? That, and the Thanatos can field a dozen or so fighters, while the basilisk can field 5 light drones.

Which would you prefer to be flying when facing a fleet of 25+ RR BSes?

Grav sites only have one wave of defenders and, in a non-core site, they're pretty wimpy. (Not my fault if anyone dies to them, though.)

As to the OP, you'd need capital ships construction III (x14) and pre-reqs (67.5+ mill isk). Then to make it from minerals you'd need each of the dozen capital component bpo's (785 mill isk or thereabouts each), and research them, or bpc's. You'd probably be better off buying the components and assembling them in the wormhole and doing whatever wormhole activity earns you the most isk/hour to pay for it.

Do your self a favor... Kill sleepers and sell the crap in jita. Wait for a decent route to Kspace and buy and haul the minerals in. Mining for a carrier is crazy stupid and will take WAY more time then it is worth. If you are going to mine you need a large refinery. A med will get you 500K veld per 1.5 hour cycle and you can fill one up in less then 25 min using a covetor ( I strongly suggest not using a hulk because you will get poped. Not you may get poped... you will get poped. It is just a matter of time ) and dont get me started on the 75% cap on refining.

I wouldn't suggest doing a class 4 solo, and a 3 is debatable. Also, if you plan to keep your POS, go with a large instead of a medium

This is a good guide and I'd recommend reading it: Linkage

In our C2 we have a Revelation dreadnought, a Chimera carrier, and a Rorqual is in the works. Nobody bothers us.

We brought all the cap parts in for the Reveleation; ugh that was painful! For the Chimera we brought all the minerals in and built the components. The main storage on my POS is a component assembly array, so it finally got a chance to build something other than R.A.M.

We haven't bothered to try to mine one completely, though nearly all the Megacyte and Zydrine came from the C2. That didn't take long at all.

Oh what I wouldn't give to see to the look on your face after grinding out all of these minerals (you ever refine at a POS?) and then discovering what is really involved in building a Thanatos from scratch. Twisted Evil

To stop those corps that come in and ninja erect towers in wormholes! That and to flex your epeen, or because you had no where else to park it.

You will need a Large tower and an X-Large Ship Building array.
You will need a component assembly array to build the capital parts.
I would just buy component and ship BPCs from the market.

WHs are severely trit/pyer deficient to build caps.
So, suggest you mine the other materials, sell off overage and import the trit and pyer.

25 RR BS would mess a thanatos up so damn fast

Hi GD's alt,

almost all's said. one additional topic is the hauling of stuff. As your C4 would not have highsec-WHs it might pay off to give this some thought.

Capital-Components: 142 parts -> 1.420.000m^3
Minerals: 773.610m^3 for perfect BPs.
replace trit and pyerite with compressed veld/scord (refine that in WH):
a lot less than 773.000m^3
