Anyone have the full version yet? I only played the demo so far and already found its level of realism is unmatched by any other racing game/sim. Its simply amazing - its like being in a real 700 hp racing car with bumpy roads, insane setup options etc...

This has gotta be the the most accurate and therefor best simulation of motorsports in the history of video games, and I know I played so many like Grand Prix Legends, the Grand Prix series, some F1 games and of course couple Nacar titles (Papyrus for the win). What else is there to say than anyone who is only slightly interested in racing sims HAS to have it, I know I will as soon as the store I ordered in gets another supply of copies :s
(On a sidenote afaik its only available in german speaking countries atm, rest of the world is supposedly getting it in early 2005)
Two things that are bothering me tho in case anyone plays it already - one is the question how well does the mp work as far as stability and connectivity are concerned, the other question I got is about the AI as in do they go kamikaze or do they stick to the rules.
Hope I won't have to miss out on it for too long....

the best realistic multiplayer racing game is http://www.liveforspeed.net/. try the demo :)

the graphics aren't that good nor is the sound but when it comes to realism and multiplayer there's no game that beats it.

in a couple of months s2 of live for speed will be out with better graphics and sound, together with new cars and an improved physics engine this game will pwn.

I actually have a license for Live for Speed S1, and although I gotta say I can see where the devs wanna go the level of realism is in no way comparable to GTR in its current state. Its more of a semi realistic, still a bit arcadish racer atm, mainly because like you just said some content is still missing, maybe it'll change come S2 (or S3 for that matter). I hope they add a damage model as well.

Don't get me wrong though, LFS is surely a good game and especially for its price you won't get a better racing game - yet GTR's physics, setup options and general feeling together with a very nice Force Feedback (Logitech Momo wheel owns) put every other self proclaimed simulation to shame, even Grand Prix Legends (which ofc is very old so there is no fair comparison possible).

looks like i need to try gtr then. any link to the demo?

the only thing i found arcadish in lfs is the non-existant dmg and the behaviour of the cars at low speeds, like understeer while turning at 5 km/h. both will be fixed in s2 :)

You should find the demo on either www.bhmotorsports.com (which is teh uber site for racing mods btw) or on www.simbin.com (the devs). Btw, the ceo of Simbin is no other than Henrik Roos who is driving a Chrysler Viper in the FIA GT series ^^

Id rather wait for gran turismo 4, which in my opinion is the fourth game of the best racing game series ever, and probably always will be, im also a strong believer in driving games being best played on consoles, in a similar way to FPS games playing better on pc.Very Happy

I bought GTR from amazon.de last week because I couldn't wait till february 2005 (date of release in most countries). All I can tell you guys is BUY IT!!! BUY IT NOW!!!! It's probably the greatest Sim ever made since GPL. The sound, the feeling, the modelisations of the cars, the ForceFeedback, the multiplayer code, the perfectly reproduced cockpits, every part of this Sim has just set a new standard. This game is the new reference, the new king of Sims and that's from a LFS and GPL racer ;)

And please don't talk about Gran Tourismo, we're talking about a true Sim here made by true pilots, not an arcade game with some Sims elements here and here. You just can't compare those 2 games. I like too the Gran Tourismo serie but seriously GTR plays on a higher level.

In a week, they'll add new cars and the famous 24h of Spa in their next patch. Also, it's planned in a near future to have new tracks and even more cars to drive via the "What's new" menu in the game. So plently of stuff to play with after the release of the game, that's cool Cool

Concerning the german version, if you import it, you can already install some english translations for the pit sounds and menus, so you'll almost have an english version.

Well, you've just found a GTR fanboy in this forum Very Happy Laughing

I have been a fanboy of GTR since playing the press demo which got leaked a couple months ago ^^

Also, since the game is coming from former modders going commercial (their GT racing mod for F1 2000 was already awesome), I assume its gonna be highly moddable and therefor the community is gonna have much stuff to play with over the next couple years (til GTR 2 is out ^^)

Just ordered it via amazon too, should be here early next week Razz
24 h of Spa sounds very nice, but is there any chance to save during a race? And is it gonna be optional during a sp season?

I guess ill give GTR a try then, it better be good after that speech Very Happy, but just cos a driving game has input from real racing drivers, doesnt mean its going to be good i.e. im sure david beckham couldnt make a good football game, also recently the actor vin diesal has been providing input for action games which look like total tripe. But like i said ill give it a fair chance and i look forward to its release.

P.S. does it work well with a wheel?

i'm kinda disappointed.
