I would like to see the flight control interface updated.
Why can't we have multiple orbit distances and keep at range buttons? Imagine a real space ship with only one option for an orbit distance.
The overload options also need to be looked at. Its very hard to tell what the hell is going on with them. It's so easy to click them by mistake when activating a module. I have only recently been able to use overloading but hate doing it as im not sure if I have switched it off after it has been activated. When your in combat the last thing you need is more confusion.
Am I being picky?

You aren't being picky, although changing orbit distances in action hasn't been an issue for me. That doesn't mean I didn't wish there was a more convenient way to do it. The interface just has so many usability issues, that no one knows when they get around to fixing your particular issues.

Overheating is annoying.... would be nice if overheating went 'red' like everything else when you click it off

as far as multiple orbit distances.. yeah, maby, i kinda enjoy frantic rightclick and smash some numbers on the numberpad while flying a ceptor

if you fix all the useability issues eve has there wouldn't be any challenge in this game anymore. Laughing

I agree with the OP that both those things should be reviewed. What I would like to see is a WASD + mouse click move option.

The whole UI needs updating. It was fine when the game came out but now its hopeless. The combat log is possibly the silliest thing I have ever seen in an online game. The fleet interface is extremely outdated and clunky. Improving all these won't dumb the game down, in fact it will allow more sophisticated decision making and challenges. Fighting the interface instead of the game itself is not hardcore its stupid.

I'm hoping with Dust and WIS CCP will be forced to change it all or at least allow players to script their own interface.

CCP does need to update the interface, yes. Scripting your own? No.

This game is already complex enough without having to worry whether you just lost your ship because someone has written a better interface than the one you are currently using. Keep the interface the same across the board, just make it less like a spreadsheet and more user friendly.

HINT CCP: When we have to completely redesign an interface on the military software that I design, we typically bring in some fresh blood from somewhere else in the industry for a new perspective. Trying to get the guys who designed the excel interface 8 years ago to do an about face and design something more modern and user friendly is typically going to lead to failure of epic proportions.

The scripting I'm talking about would be for things like skins, flexible text windows or an improved market interface, things that should not give an unfair advantage in combat. I do not think CCP currently have the people or the talent to do this. Scripting can be as restricted as CCP want it to be and If they did allow it I would assume they would introduce elements slowly to ensure players are not unfairly advantaged. To write off the idea completely removes a great talent pool (the players) while pushing the job onto CCP who I honestly believe are not currently able to do the job.

If it's left to CCP it won't happen as they have a lot of other aspects of the game they seem to think is a lot more important. The fact I do not recollect one blog on the UI tells me where their priorities lay. I think they are being short sighted but that does not matter if they do not have to do the job.

Eve´s UI is horrible and outdated, starts with the mini font on big monitors and ends with the stuff you mentioned. im sure that ccp is working on that for the next big patch though.

i doubt it will get fixed any time in the near future.

there is probably one product development manager in ccp who thinks the UI is "fine" or "good enough" and is the sole reasone we dont have any improvements.

once he is gone, theyll hire somebody new, or promote an junior manager and maybe - just maybe - we'll see a new UI.

I feel your all being a bit harsh here. Generally the UI of EVE is amazingly easy to use considering the complexity it has to support. That said there is always room for improvement. Overheating I agree is hard to manage and understand.

The ease of use of the UI will always have a major impact on how many new players stick with the game and become regular subscribers, therefore I would think this is high on CCP's priority list

I agree with the op the ui cold use some changes.

Biggest problem for me is the font. First of all the font itself is ****; 8 = B, G = 6, O/D/0(null)
Would love to see a patch for ui changes wich included some of those fixes: Custom fonts and Custom sizes (for large monitors)

As a huge overheat user I agree it needs a bit of interface love

Another real pain is primarying the fleet member you are rr or rsb, when you have locked the target, only to appear next to ur fleet m8. By the time you have turned guns off and selected correct target and re fire its already gone boom!!Twisted Evil
