Yeah because it's the only thing they are still good. Close HAS are dead now - every tier 2 BC and some tier 1 ones are better. Nanonerf kills close HAS', it's sad but true. And CCP should send Deimos to utilization because it can't even snipe...

Blobs aren't a problem. You can kill them pretty good with Drakes and shield logistics. So if CCP wanted to protect them it failed...

The speed changes did very little to prevent HACs from doing close range work, the incessant buffer tanking and HP buffs however ..
HACs are simply not able to do enough damage and field enough EHP to be viable close in except in that elusive small-gang/solo engagement.

PS: Gallente have what is probably the single most deadly HAC in the Ishtar. It does close range and sniping both without having to change much in the way of fittings .. Diemost was made obsolete by the EHP increases of all ships around it.

Confirming that the fight did not happen in Hadozeko and the sides did not consist of:
- Broadsword
- 2x Vagabond
- 2x Drake
- Ferox
- 3x Binger
- Myrm

vs
- Armageddon (me)
- Tempest
- Typhoon
- Claw
- Merlin

and that I did not get my ass royally handed to me immediately before the Broadsword died. Also confirming that I didn't already have another Geddon lined up in Hek. Laughing

Liang I have to point out that you were beat up by mostly battlecruisers who had you overpowered in terms of tonnage, outgunned in DPS, and had more HP buffer than you did. You were blobbed.

Hac got range and mobility.

BC got dps and tank.

Seems fair to me.

You just need to understand that HACs are still just cruisers, not super pwn mobiles. Learn how to use em and you will see that most of em are good.

Hehe, it's your illusion. The truth is though Drake isn't that fast and agile, missiles are. So why does anybody need a closerange HAC when Drake has the same DPS and 2.5 more ehp?

But if Drake is too slow and clumsy for you, you can use nano-Hurricane, which has better tank and dps, 2 neutralizers, as agile as any HAC and only 100-200 m/s slower...

yes.

and a battlecruiser is not a cruiser.
end of day, doesn't matter how bonuses HACs have, their resistances and whatnot.

they are still cruisers, and battlecruisers are still battlecruisers.
so comparing both is like comparing apples to oranges.

you want fast-moving roaming gangs, you get a fleet composition up to HACs, that usually are fitted for speed, agility, sniping, and have a wider choice in engagement envelopes.

you want a gang that sacrifices mobility, thus insertion range for firepower (read shallow 0.0/lowsec gatecamping), you get battlecruisers.

there's a reason why fast moving, high penetration gangs don't use BC's (get in fast, gank, get out fast), and there's a reason why a gatecamp with only HAC's is weak and will scram when they face a numerically equal force of BC's (staying power).

TL;DR: up to T2 cruisers -> deep insertion/harassment/hit-and-run; up to BCs -> short range insertions/shallow 0.0/lowsec pirating/border patrol; up to BS'es -> homeguard/capital support/expeditionary (invasion) forces.

exceptions: lowsec gatecamping with BS'es, doable also in HAC's, easily doable with BC's; HIC's; certain minmatar ships, blackops.
