ccp is planning to remove the medium shader setting from both servers
should they?

Yes, so they can focus on more modern hardware...evolve or die.

Let DX9 die...

Er, what?

Firstly: Link to a CCP dev blog or statement, or it didn't happen.

Secondly: Shaders aren't on servers. They're in the client, of which there is only one.

Thirdly: Removing medium would seem particularly pointless considering that low is below it.

Fourthly: Probably the wrong place for a petition. You might want Assembly Hall.

-copy of bug report: I checked with the developers and the medium setting was removed on purpose. // Apparently only a very small percentage of people were using the medium setting, // and it was taking a lot of extra time to test all the changes on it each time. // As a side note it was removed on the PC side as well, so it wasn´t just Eve // picking on the Mac users. :) // BH Macijinan if this is for testing purposes on sisi only, i understand, but please keep medium shaders available on tranquility. // Sorry it is for all servers. You can try posting the request in the "Features // and Ideas" section. If there is is enough people wanting it they may look at // bringing it back. // BH Macijinan

Aha, makes more sense now. Sneaky - this is an intended future change, as the current (PC at any rate) client does still have Medium available for Shader. You probably want either Assembly Hall or Test Server Development forums.

Im just not sure this is a problem. Assuming your computer is only a few years old- it should work fine on high.

I had a friend recently who bought a 400$ computer- it plays eve with all the settings maxed, and playes at a decent framereate (35-40ish). If he wanted to be really cheap about it im sure he could have found something in the 200$ range.

Ccp has to spend their money where it will do the most good. If very few ppl are using the med setting- and it takes a lot of work to keep that setting in- it may be time to give it the axe.

Tl/Dr- once its gone- bump it up to max shader or min shader. Its not that big of a deal.

This isn't cool. I've got two desktops, each one runs two eve accounts. Both machines are a few years old, but they're Core 2 Duo processors, updated graphics card (Nvidia 8800 GT (ok, sorta updated) and an ATI Radeon 4850 HD), Windows 7 Professional, 4 GB ram. If I run anything higher than 1366 x 768 (or whatever that wierd resolution is) and medium settings, I either have to set Interval Immediate and listen to the graphics card fan scream or live with somewhere between 15 and 20 FPS. Never had this problem pre-Dominion and I can run other games (L4D2, Fallout 3, etc) on considerably higher graphics settings without any hiccups.

Also, has anyone tried exploration with the shader options set to low? Hate it, can barely see the arrows to move the probes around. Can't do that effectively on low, can't run on high without totally **** performance.

Haha, yeah, exactly this, only reason I run it on high.

Who needs medium shaders anymore? My system is outdated as heck and I run full max settings on full 1080 P at 30-60 FPS solid.

My setup.

AMD Athlon XP 64 X2 4200 + 2.2 GHZ processor (made 4 years ago or more I think?)
A8n-SLI Premium
2 Gigs of DDR400 Ram (Ancient by today's standards)
Dual Nvidia XFX 8800 GT Alpha Dog edition 512 MB of ram, Factory OC (SLI)
Windows 7 Professional full retail X64
Acer H213H bmid Black 21.5" 5ms HDMI Full HD 1080P Widescreen 16:9 LCD Monitor

With that setup I run eve all maxed out at 1920 X 1080 without any problems. So if I can run Eve at the resolution with those specs why should anyone need medium shaders? People can buy 8800 GT's for next to nothing now. Or buy a 9 series card as well. So basically spend a little bit of extra cash to keep with the times. It will only take probably $100 out of your paycheck to buy a decent midrange card to power eve at full glory. So there is no reason to keep medium shaders.

This rig can also run the latest games to date all maxed out except for AA at decent resolutions. I have not tried at full HD resolutions with really intensive games because I just got this widescreen monitor around Xmas. But basically if I can run eve so should everybody else. There is no reason why anyone should not be able to crank eve to max settings. If you can't then you need to stop subbing EVE and find a new game because it does not take hardly any money to invest in a decent video card to run eve maxed out.

EDIT: I Also run dual screen sometimes as well. Plus 2 accounts. So again whoever is having problems, if you have a better machine then mine. It's not CCP's fault it's something conflicting on your machine.

Yeah. that's real outdated in comparison to today's standards Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I'd tolerate the removal of medium shaders if low shaders were re-done so that they don't make the game look like ass.

Good for you, you've certainly got the bigger e-peen than us. Now go enjoy the pretty graphics and just accept the fact that some people couldn't care less about them.

it's not his E-peen you fool. He's showing off a 2 inch E-peen and pointing out that it can run eve at max.

The point is his 200$ system can run it at high at 1080 rez without flaw.

also they still have low, just push to have them make the scanning effect not look like ass in low.

Did you even read his system specs? It's all about e-peen if you post your shiny toys that have no relevance at all to the subject at hand (like your screen). Also good for you if you can buy that system for 200$ where you live, over here you can get maybe one of his two graphics cards for that kind of money. So troll someone else.

AMD Athlon XP 64 X2 4200 + 2.2 GHZ processor (made 4 years ago or more I think?)
Lets see... that's like 20$

2 Gigs of DDR400 Ram (Ancient by today's standards)

I've never heard of ram before ddr1 :P maybe 5$?

Dual Nvidia XFX 8800 GT Alpha Dog edition 512 MB of ram, Factory OC (SLI)

lets see... 8800s are 70$ on new egg

Windows 7 Professional full retail X64

meh that doesn't count it does nothing for performance really.

Acer H213H bmid Black 21.5" 5ms HDMI Full HD 1080P Widescreen 16:9 LCD Monitor

nice shiny screen, but once again not part of the performance at all. actually your monitor costs mosre than your computer :P

So yes I can get a computer that cheap over here.

My laptop cost me 1200$, it's got
-4Gb of DDR3 ram
-T9900 3.06 Ghz duo core Cpu
-130M Gfroce 1Gb DDr2 ram
-1920x1080 rez

Now THATS showing off.

EVE should evolve into DX10, and the loss of the medium shader is a good thing, let the game move forward.

For those who will whine, well you have due warning to get saving.

Ehhh, i think your pretty outdated here. Because we have DX11 now, so i will rather see EVE use DX11.

So instead of buying a card that only support DX10, then you can buy a cheap Radeon 5700 series card that supports DX11 instead.

people keep talking of upgrading cards, too bad my card can't be replaced, its intergraded,
so i need to buy a new computer to play on high shaders, and don't start to talk how cheap PC's are because i don't use PC's, i use macCool
