update : same old same old seems true
Goonswarm (I don't like their attitude but thats irrelevent) loses soverignity over vast systems due to some error in where the isk was in the corporate wallet or some guy switching funds

A few days ago 1000 people couldn't defend their sytem against far lesser numbers because computers seized up and even worse they lost their ships while their screens were black and many couldn't log in for hours.. many capital ships that must have cost billions...how many hours of grinding would be eaten by computer lag?

Ccp won't act like a referee like you'd have in any sporting copittion..to try to even partially put things. right.. can't be perfect and satify eveyone but there are all sorts of in betweens...but people there seem to cry bloddy murder if any attempt to put results closer to intent is made.

as I say in a post farther down.. plenty of other things in the game to prepare yourself for and to enjoy.. and think of them if you thik the type of dynamics described would bother you.
Sort of hoping for more but it looks like its all sloppy play out there in 0.0

From reading and witnessing recent events it seems like lag and server errors/failures have always been a large part of success or failure of pivotal large strategic battles.

If you don't read through the vitriolic Caod boards you might not know it. Don't think that after 6 months of play a grand strategic war game awaits you.... so often its luck … of one fleet or another being frozen by disfunctioning servers. It seems to be accepted as a routine outcome that you're denied a real internet space ship fight.

On top of that, the way the game mechanics are structured pretty much one or two people can at a whim just ruin their team or take huge amounts of assets.. right or wrong its so frequent that’s what you should basically expect major swings to come down to more often than not.

I bet less than a third of major battles and rises and falls in fortune result from actual confrontation between properly functioning in game items and their organized deployment.

Seems fine to some people but if I go to a football game I want to see footbl playe detremine the outcome.. not whether one team got food posioning. Or maybe even something laughable like one team member turning on the others because they were actually mole fans of the other team and changing the plane reservations so the team couldn't show up or something.

N QQ here.. just a warning to others thinking that something more awaits them ahead thats not fraught with bs .

If you like small to medium sized gangwarfare, then 0.0 will be fun for you. You even can have all effects activated and brackets but eve still works fine then.

If you like to see your loginscreen often, big slideshows and crying on the forum then you should join a big 0.0 ally. Laughing

having flown in 0.0 all over the universe I have to say your wrong. yes lag happens, in my experince it's because my computer can't handle the data not because I'm not getting info from the system.

0.0 can be a great place to fly, as long as you report a fleet fight where you expect more than 200 people to show up, and if your fleet has 100 people, then yes expect more than 200 people to show up.

and as to rise and fall of empires, that comes mostly to politics and not explosions. the politics can be a result of an explosion but the death of an alliance doesn't happen on the battle field. it happens in the forums and chat channels.

CAOD is a hive of scum and villiany. almost nothing said in there is fact, and that facts that are said are said to throw you off the facts that they don't want to be talked about.

I do agree that there are lots of fun things going on in 0.0 as you mention.

And the game has many other avenues to continue to progress at besides 0.0 too.

There are some really exciting things about the big armies too. It’s fascinating to see so many people from throughout the world turn up at a given time and on teamspeak servers... and I am talking about hundreds on each side. Its really exciting.

It is just the failures in the –campaign- game stemming from mechanics issues that I'm sort of appalled by.... for sporting competition you want to know what the rules are in advance and how things will be applied and be sure that neither side gains advantage from failure to maintain order on a playing field.

Basically, you need to accept that computer failures are part of the playing field just as a wind or temperature might be in another sport... but the weather affects both sides relatively equally even if one side can handle it better… its not like the ball is only wet for one team …. and if a hooligan ran on the field and distracted things and a goal was scored, the goal would stand.. and I GUESS you could say those were the rules that were agreed to in advance but it would still be lame.

Maybe I shouldn’t be so negative but it seems to me that going along with that sort of thing is sort of a meta statement about what sort of rules you’re willing to play a game under…. or really engage in any activities under …. By standing by ugliness you lend support to that ugliness …… but hell , I am having fun, but I shouldn’t be a party to it… because what we’ll accept in a game does reflect what we’ll accept in society …. But maybe the gaming is mirroring the failed financial system… but we need to be optomists… and strive for better…… lol … ok.. that’s my stream of conciousnes… for the we hours of the morning.

but yes mega conquest campaigns by thousands of people are far from the only thing that 0.0 has to offer. There are lots of other fun points about it all too.

Anywhere you go, you'll have detractors. Just find the area of the game where they don't bother you so much. I prefer low sec and high sec PvP, but I know that sometimes that comes with station games, RRing alts and other sorts of asshattery.

Lag has always been an unwanted feature in EVE - and has from time to time decided the outcome of battles, but to call it a large part is exagerating it quite a bit.

0.0 politics (PVP) has very little to do with luck and a lot about planning, knowing game mechanics and information warfare.

The current "winning" strategy is to pack as many allies as possible as early as possible into the system where the fight should take place. With the new deterioration of performance added with Dominion, if you can get 500+ people into system before your enemy, reinforced node or not, there is no safe way for them to enter the system. Neither gate nor titan bridge can stop the fleet attempting to enter system from dying at a black/blank screen to the entrenched fleet. Current realities will benefit a defender as long as they aren't total idoits (ie. 50/50).

I think the issue of lag has been brought up before, why erect a depressing discussion again, we all know general discussion is renown for depressive topics, but try and keep it to a minimal. :) xx

0.0 isn't all based on forums and chat. It really comes down to who has the most resolve to win. Psycological warfare thus plays a very important role, but isn't the all

Typically though, people want to be winners, hence why alliances can snowball into monster entities out of nothing and equally failure cascade so fast

It always amazes me how many failures think
their opinions matter

op is dead wrong

course there is reason behind the chaos that
is 0.0, but it's usually reserved for those that lead
their respective alliances, and their inner circle

op is also wrong in regards to large fleet manuvers

stuid is as stupid does,as forest gump would say

there's more than one way to get massive people
into a system safely, duh

so, in the end,you can listen to a fail eve
player, or you can use your head, smarts,
and wits and go see what 0.0 is all about for yourself

Now huge contested teritories swing over accounting oversights (or possible the same-old one guy snickering about the havoc and undoing of hundres of others efforts that can be made with a few key strokes)

Over the weekend 1000 players couldn't use their ships and many lost them including capitals worth billions of isk and associated game play. because their screens went black, many for hours, but still could get shot at.

Those aren't isolated issues.. if you don't like that stuff look towards other things to have fun with.

If you bother to look CCP are asking players to help them do tests to find the source of the problem.

I'd be irritated if one team lost a game because the showed up late because thier bus ran out of gas... techically it might be a forfit but any reasonable people would want to see them play the game and let it go on anyway. I wouldn't want my team to win that way, would feel it was bogus if my leauge champ was deciede that way even if my team didn't make the championship.

You don't need to care a whit about Goonswarm to see it as a blot on the game. Maybe the typical 0.0 player likes that sort of competition and maybe thats a barrer to many mainstream people from eventually enjoying the 0.0 experience.

I've heard lots of different reasons behind why goons lost sov:

1) Goons purposefully left sov bills unpaid so they could shed excess territory
2) Server bug
3) Some sort of issue with wallet divisions, with money being in the wrong division.
4) Some sort of issue with executor corps.

Until CCP comes forward and explains what it was, I'm not trusting the forums to be accurate Laughing

Original post was weeks ago and refering in large part to how I read about BoB losing soveignity.. which I thought was pretty lame history... the goon thing hadne't happened and the current snaffu is also affected xxx Legion of Death xxx and WI .

And don't forget that the equal mention about the NC losses a couple days ago in p-2 despite them being able to rally a large force that couldn't even be put to use.

No real opinion on who wins or loses (thats for CAOD), its about the way people should expect things to go down... and beyond that warning its not trolling (not by intent at least) in that the soapbox of the forums can in, in an incremental way, spark that much more focus of possible improvements in the areas. The squeaky wheel gets fixed and it would be nice to have something less lame to be involved with in that aspect of the game....which probably would have the best chances of sustaining long term involvment...which is great from the social tiies and depth of experience long term involvement can offer.

I agree with OP, just as I found it completely rubbisch that one guy can disband an entire alliance ( with BoB ), due to faulthy game mechanics, as in can't actually disband, but can kick everyone until no one is left and alliance disbands ... what about last corp? Last corp would technically then be the owner of all sov ...

Just as that, I find it rubbisch that Goons, WI or anyone would loose Sov over a bug.

Not to speak about lag.

These kinds of things make me not want to participate in 0.0

Backstabbing and spying is fine, but faulthy game mechanics and bugs? Bah !

When you upgrade a revolutionary, incredibly complex, single shard software environment, bugs happen.
This is inevitable.
This often causes lag and/or unintended results.
The problems are prioritized, investigated, and dealt with.
This takes time.

This has happened before, and relatively smooth large scale engagements were restored (expanded upon actually).
It will happen again, and when it does the same process will unfold.

Your current complaint is nothing but a ripple in the pond.

Or to put it another way, this too shall pass.

The only thing that bothers me is all the adds for eve are about huge fleet battles, battles that don't actually exist in this game in the way they portray them at all. Maybe they could come out with some adds showing people endlessly farming the same 9 missions over and over and over again. It would seem that would be a truer vision of what most people do in this gameRolling Eyes
