ok, so its working "sort of" but failing, if its doing the same thing with sort-of working, dropping in/out on all the builds you listed below it would lead me to think that something is interfering with eve.

What antivirus do you use?

Have you checked for spyware/malware?

Do you have any other sound issues when playing other games, or listening to music? Or is it purely just eve which is suffering from this?

and on another note - Do the crackling/popping noises only happen on the Soundblaster Xi-Fi's? (its a known problem with the card itself when used in conjunction with a Nforce mobo caused by latency times on the mobo)

I am currently playing on the P5Q, that has an intel P45 chipset, and the X-FI has all special features disabled thru windows.

I don't have any issues with other games, Bioshock, LOTRO, Unreal Tournament III, etc.

I don't run any other sound, only EVE sound, 2 clients, but also tried with 1 client.

And even on a virgin system ( Windows + Drivers straight from manufacturer ) I have the issues, but no I am pretty sure I dont have any infections atm.

I run Microsoft Security essentials, it is very light weight and works pretty good.

But if you like to help, try fitting a sensor booster and / or tracking computer and some turrets, then zoom all the way in on your ship and go shoot some :p

im stuck at work, hense the forum trolling :P

Check my post again, i updated it with a link to a thread which was started 9 months ago regarding these issues, and continues with posts recently as december. It seems its a known issue with an unknown cause which CCP are neglecting/refuzing to look at.

Wanted to go at it from a different angle, as in, who actually got it working :p

I have always had great sound from eve, even with two accounts running.

What I mean by great sound is:
clear music
clear warp sound
clear explosions
clear "asteroid" sounds
clear turret sound useing a varity of weapons
clear voices ( the very rare times I have hear them)

My sound system is a 2.1 soundblaster that I bought 7 years ago for $40 at Walmart. (Fallout 3 also sounds great).

Good luck with that.

You know that most of the problems with the sound have come back on bug reports as "working as intended" right? That includes missing turret fire, launcher firing sounds, totally whackass positional sound, etc. The only thing they've acknowledged as a problem was the speaker popping which was fixed (but apparently not fixed for some players Rolling Eyes). The jukebox not playing on startup? Intended. They downgraded the quality of all the built in music tracks on purpose and with no explanation (deliberate sound degradation! wtf?).

tl;dr - Anyone who says their sound is "working fine" is not someone who listens to it often if at all.

The point is he's tried with like 5 different machines ,all different hardware, with different os's, and different eve install files, and all have the exact same issue, whilst ppl like me randomly have no issue whatsoever?

CCP just needs to find the common thing about all the people experiencing the issue and fix it, the pure fact this issue has been going on for 9 months and is still being neglected is appauling.

I came back to eve out of boredom and hopes the new sov systems and perhaps even dust514 might make the game interesting. So far, seeing all the Dominion bugs, and neglect from CCP is not doing well to convince me to stay Rolling Eyes

It is like this:

The sound in eve online does not work properly.

I have tested the sound on 3 windows machines and on an macbook, it has NEVER worked without bugs, meaning that some sounds are not played at all.

I am sorry, but i dont believe that it works on any machine properly.

There are ALLOT of threads about this, this problem is being treated by ccp as a "feature and idea" topic since a long time now.

Here is one of these thread for example: www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1239937

All my Eve audio went down the toilet when some boneheaded dev decided to change the focal point of the audio to the CAMERA rather than the ship. Ever since that change I seem to drop channels and have all sorts of ******ed audio related shinanigans all the time. In fact I turned off all sounds shortly after that change due to it sounding like I was listening to the game underwater or through a pillow when zoomed even a short distance out from my ship (i.e. ALL THE FREAKIN TIME!).

Locking the audio focus to the camera = STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID!MadEvil or Very MadMad

This topic will be CLOSED in a second anyway, it will only be moved into the "features and ideas" forum if you are lucky ;-)

so, continue talking here: www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1239937

I, like another poster, shudder to admit this but I too own a Dell and have no problems with sound. (Technically speaking. I'd like to hang the person who put the chanting in the Amarr stations by the thumbs Very Happy )

Now if I could just maintain a stable fps.

After more research and testing, I really doubt that all the posters saying that their sound works perfectly are doing the things I am doing.

I just bought a new laptop, so thats another fresh system I can play with, if I got the same issues there, I can only conclude that everyone has these issues, but they just don't know it or hear it.

This is not a new issue, and it's not in any way hardware related.

Since Apocrypha people have been reporting mis-bahaving positional sounds and combat sounds randomly cutting out as well as some ambient/background sounds being disproportionately loud.

The latest patch just threw in a load of jukebox errors.

Apocrypha introduced a rewritten sound engine that plain doesn't work correctly. A lot of people play sound-off or simply don't really notice. I havent spoken to anyone who can't reproduce the issues given similar circumstances.

A friend claimed no problems until I actually talked him through the problem recently to his exclamation of 'oh yeah, I hadn't noticed that'.

I know it is not a new issue, but I thought it might have been hardware related.

But now I am pretty confident that everyone has these issues ( described and updated in the OP ).

It has everything to do with the positional sounds and the new sound engine indeed, so I hope CCP Baldur implements an on/off switch for positional sound effects sooner rather than later, I am sure that would fix alot of the problems.

It is a shame that a new sound engine is bought a new lead sound dev is appointed/hired and then the first result is a broken sound system and now, 9 months later, it is still not fixed, meanwhile a new expansion is already released ...
