Dear EVE players who haven't figured this out yet, here is a...

Guide to Dominion Grid Load Lag

Post-Dominion, we got a new bug. NC experienced it first-hand a couple of times and lost a pile of ships to it. Through repeated attempts at bashing a skull to a wall, a solution was eventually found. Many fleet battleships died bringing you this information.

If you try to enter system (not just warp to a grid, enter a new system) on a grid that has too many other ships on it, you will end up in a bugged state - grid will not load for you but your ship appears there and will most likely get shot - "too many" is a number that is somewhere between 200-300 ships. You also will be unable to log back in, so CTRL+Q is not really helpful.

Key points;

- It does not matter how many people are in system. It does not matter if the system is reinforced or not. The one and only thing that matters is how many people are on the grid you are using to enter the system.
- The number matters at the moment you try to load the new system and grid and even blues count.

Hence, if you try to jump through a gate, if the other side has a large fleet, you will most likely get completely hosed. However, a mass jump can also cause everything to break for a part of your fleet simply because they enter the system only after the gate grid has already "too many" friendly ships. Cue "first 100-200 people got thru fine, rest are lagged out on load, and look, reds are now arriving on grid and... *welp*".

If you cyno in, same is true for the grid where the cyno is.

Hence, for the love of all that is holy etc., do not light multiple cynos on a single grid and do not try to squeeze more than 200 ships through at once (number of ships jumping in + number of ships already on grid).

The way to combat the problem is to stagger the entry, use multiple grids, clear out ships from the grid as soon as they land to reduce problems for anyone still jumping in and preferably use cynos that are so far away from any hostiles that they cannot land on the cyno grid in time with a blob and break your entry before you are through and have warped off the cyno grid.

After you have properly entered the system, then everything works just like pre-dominion. 700-800 ships, while laggy, is playable. 1000+ could work on a reinforced node. Entering grids full of ships in that same system, while they may take a while - 10-20 seconds is not unheard of - will work. Cue fun mega bash without one side winning with a lame turkey shoot.

Until CCP can fix their code, hope this helps.

The only thing that gets me annoyed about this thread is the double standard. If goons had been in system first and killed 4 IT titans they would come here and chest beat. However, since they lost they come on here immediately blaming lag/CCP/(insert blamable object here) for their loss.

Sure lag sucks but goons and others have used lag before to their advantage. I am sure IT has used Lag before to their advantage, as does most alliances, so to call foul now is nothing but hypocrisy.

Don't jump into a system that is already heavy with pilots, this has happened before and will happen again as it seems many don't listen.

Nothing at all about this thread annoys me. The result of this was never going to be anything different. Butter and I explained this to the NC guys in threads about the Atlas war many times over, and anyone with a basic grasp of recent eve battles saw it coming a mile off. God knows why Goonsplot FCs made quite such an inept decision, resulting in the single greatest failure in ANY fleet battle and a victory for IT that will be remembered for years to come.

Goons and co have been talking up this battle for days, and claiming it would be the turning point in the entire Fountain offensive, but the depressing truth for Goonsplot is that they would have been infinitely more successful with me as their FC.

All of you fanboys who watched that terrible Eve TV garbage and felate anyone working with the game at fanfests just don't get that the game hasn't evolved. Timezone wars are worse than ever and there is literally no reason not to defend a single system at a time. If HED were under attack and AAA didn't jump into us to save it, they wouldn't be smart for avoiding the battle due to lag, they'd be stupid. There is no alternative to attacking a single system currently and there has never really been. The entire gimmick of Dominion, besides reducing the load of logistics, was to add new targets for combat etc. Well, let's take stock of Dominion.

1. The only station systems lost really were dropped by alliances who randomly defected elsewhere or those lost during the confusion of the immediate post Dominion environment (not understanding timers or whatever).
2. Nothing has changed with stacking players in a single system to meet objectives and this will not change in the future.
3. New parties are only being dragged into 0.0 by large alliances looking to make bigger fleets for single system targets.
4. Dominion politics and conflicts are not really exciting, personally, and subjectively as far as I can see on any major forum.

So, Dominion seems to be a pretty big bust and, like POS warfare and remote DD's, we're likely stuck with this turd for at least a year.

IT didnt just kill alot of caps, several titans, SPLOT and a **** load of other things in Y-2 they also caused Goonies to emorage mega quit,..

Guess this is why Y-2 was special, I knew the battle was a success but to have all those 5000 trial pilots in Goons actually quit the game OMG, nice!,..

Oh and for what it is worth, as I said in Feb,..

1200+ man fights aside, am I supposed to re-enforce systems if I want to jump bridge average sized fleets, or if I just want to travel through a system?

CCP you really, really need to fix your game, or at least suspend sov changes until its fixed. I agree that you shouldn't jump large fleets into systems, even if they are re-enforced, but the problem is present even in small to medium sized fights.

At least comment on the progress of a fix, or even an acknowledgement that there is a problem, I don't understand how the game can be so broken and yet the developers just ignore it.

Suspend sov changes huh? Now thats an idea. Do you have any particular sov that you are worried about changing?

IT, you seem to miss the bigger picture.

These guys played a lot of eve to skill up to capital ships, and buy capital ships. They lose their capital ships without a fight...without even seeing a fight.

Not being able to play the "end game" of Eve is a major failing by CCP. Its a failure of services that we all pay for, and soon all alliances on both sides of the war will be up in arms.

So stop pretending that you like this **** and strut around smug as if it was a major strategic victory, it will be you crying tears of pain at some point when your grid doesnt load.
