I can’t tell at this point what has been more embarrassing for SOT:
• Getting suckered into killing one of their own Titans
• Botching the sov transfer of the backdoor system to Delve right after DT.
• Setting the scene for the PanSwarm to claim fame to the biggest loss in EVE history…..I am sure there are a few other notable achievements of SOTs that I missed but which of them will the always be remembered for when people years from now mutter their name….. . |

I'm sorry, Iso, but you, like everyone else here, are playing an MMO, and that means that you, as well as everyone else, are nothing but lab mice. This game isn't GOLD, don't look at it like it is, there's so much wrong with it that should be improved, most of which WILL be improved over time... It's really just a post-Beta Build. That's kinda why the game had been out for 5 years before they actually started doing real advertisements for this game. You don't advert a game on TV unless it's at least -somewhat- playable, or if you need more guinea pigs to join the game and break stuff for you. We're PAYING CCP to be Game Testers. Duh. That's all playing an MMO is, to them. You guys broke the game, at least client side on your end... Good job. Maybe CCP will fix it if enough people QQ about it to them. Ya know? Edit: And the simple fix for CCP to make to ensure this **** doesn't happen again, would be to have 1 server per 4-5 solar systems. (Tranquility isn't just one big computer, it's a multitude of large computers controlling different regions of space, right?) Apparently having 1400+ people in a single region is too much for one computer to handle... So, add more computing power, should be good to go. Maybe one day if CCP gets enough of a player base, they can have 1 computer per solar system (Yes, that's a **** ton of computers...) and we can maybe see 2000 man fleet battles with MINIMAL lag. |

From a business standpoint ccp does not want to admit how difficult it is to manage the bandwidth requirements when you have 500-1000 people in a single system. The amount of objects that need to be tracked, there movement, there module's and how they effect other objects is an enormous task.
CCP has made some great strides and improvements but we have to understand that it may never be possible under the current system to conduct warfare in such large numbers. You can blame ccp all you want but you have people playing on dial-up to very high speed connections as well as the capacity of there servers and routers to contend with.
And then the change of the titan doomsday from an area effect to a single shot massive damage weapon don't help things much either. Granted most of the titan pilots that I know have stated they were very happy with the changes because they wanted to participate in large scale fights. But now there is no anti-blobing weapon in game. So the the side that can get the most people in system will win... in fact I could take this an additional step and state the people that can get the most people into the system to cause node death win.

Err, I don't think you quite get it. The idea was to jump in, the node crashes, and it becomes a race to log back in and reform fleets. 700 drakes wasn't going work vs a 650 fleet of BS & caps. Duh. Also, have you tried telling the elite pvp force that is PL, that they should fly drakes? Please do so, then report to CAOD how well it was received.... You realise that almost everybody in this thread, except you, has found themselves on the receiving end of this kind of misfortune before, right? Nothing new under the sun, sonny. The problem (grid not loading), the system (Y-2ANO) was the same after the trinity patch 2 years ago during the Delve I war. Oh sorry, you're a total nublet and didn't know that. PL's leadership did though, and still choose to jump in, betting on the node crashing. Losing that bet. Maybe the stupidtitus that has so publicly affected SoT's leadership (I use the term in its most elastic version) is contagious? |

But they did deliver and at the service level/quality everyone (including you) agreed to. You should totally check out Section 12 of the EULA (since you like to complain about it). Here is a link for you http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/EULA#12._NO_WARRANTIESThis is the relevant bit quoted and in bold: Quote: The Software, System, Game and all Game Content, and all other services and material provided in connection therewith, are provided "AS IS," with all faults, and without warranty of any kind. You assume all risk of use and all risk associated with accessing the System and playing the Game.
There is no warranty against interference with your enjoyment of the Game. CCP does not warrant that the operation of the System or your access to the System, or that your use of the Software, will be uninterrupted or error-free, nor that the System or Software will be compatible with your hardware and software.
While CCP attempts to have the System available at most times, CCP does not guarantee that the System will always be available, or that the System will not become unavailable during Game play. The System may become unavailable for a number of reasons, including without limitation during the performance of maintenance to the System, for the implementation of new software, for emergency situations and due to equipment or telecommunications failures.
You did read that wall of text when you first started the client, right? Edit: Including the faults bit also in section 12. |

p.s. the fact of the matter is that the system was lost the instant SOT screwed up the sov transfer, because there were only two choices after that:
Choice 1. Ignore the sov loss and allow IT to take the system Choice 2. Jump into a non-reinforced node which IT has had all day to pack with alt accounts, dreads, and titans
Choice 2 has very little chance of success and a much greater risk of loss but HEY JUMP IN GUYS, I AM EDGY LIKE TOLON mad props to PL for (like goonswarm) not only utterly failing to grasp this, but jumping titans without even waiting to see how the system would respond to the capfleet jumping in |

I'm going to dispute the "HEY JUMP IN GUYS, I AM EDGY LIKE TOLON". It's desperation & denial. PL cannot believe this could happen to them. Given the steamroller that IT fountain campaign has turned into, it's not going to be long before they come knocking on Querious & Delve. I hope your posting will continue to be so chipper when the inevitable happens. |
