Jeeda.
Two syllables that flow together. Not Jee-tah or Jidda.

I was going to say Jeeta, but Dirk reminded me that I'm a midwesterner so it comes out "Jeeda" anyway.

Hee-tuh

Like fajita.

And to date I'm the only one I know of who pronounces it that way. Imagine my surprise going into Vent or TS and people are saying "Gee-tuh" I'm like WTF?

Being based on Japanese...

It would be a short ji-ta, where 'ji' is based on 'shi' except you start with our tongue touching your palate and sounds slightly like 'chi'. The 'ta' part here has a pronounced 't', else it would have been spelled 'da' which is softer.

Almost everyone at CCP pronounces it as Gee-ta. The only person that I know of that pronounces it J-it-ta is Hilmar, the CEO of the company. Embarassed

So I guess J-it-ta is the most "correct" pronunciation? Laughing

The "j" is a hard "g" sound and the rest of the letters you make up on your own.

I usually pronounce it "gbnsdiubndsb"

Then again I'm usually drunk when i go there.

Pretty much everyone from Europe that I've talked to or heard in videos etc. says Gee-ta whereas the US (being taught phonics in most elementary schools http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonics) usually pronounces it Jit-ah. It's a regional thing and depends on how you were taught to read. What's the big deal anyway?

Being british, I know that anyone speaking english should pronouce things like me as I'm the originator of the language (Yep me personally :P) so jit - ta is how me and my friends say it :P

This. Sort of. All software that wants to use English as the primary language should use English. Let the US and other countries have their own language packs.

p.s. where's our Irish langauge pack Razz

pps how about a CCP released audio file for system names, maybe linked in the wiki or somewhere

It's a matter of efficiency.

U's are extra. Weren't really needed. Very expensive letter that one. Can't go wasting money throwing it in randomly wherever the hell you want.
Z's were also a bit underused compared to S's so they were swapped out in a bunch of places. Someone probably had a whole bunch of Z's laying around and needed to figure out some way to sell 'em all. Usually how these things work.

Now sit back and enjoy the new improved (slightly more balanced) language. Razz
