Hi, I have a question regarding refining my mission loot. Is there a way to tell how much of the specific ore comes out of a module when its refined, or are the numbers kinda random? (assuming good refining skills).

I realize that i wasted quite some money when i just sold all my loot at a market hub, now I want to get more money of that, so I thought about refining cheap stuff like ammo or crap modules, but Im not sure how to behave with large turrets for example. Would I get more money out of a large turret by refining it or better to sell as it is?

Its a general question because prices vary depending on location, refining skills etc. Is there a rule of thumb, like better to sell meta 4 items and refine the rest or something like that?

McRoll,
Those refining numbers are never random!

The output depends on:
* your refining and refining eff. skill
* (your scrapmetal skill level)
* your standing to the station, where you refine
* the stations base yield (30% or 50%)

It is true, that items can be bought under the mineral prices. But you have to figure it out for yourself, which items are concerned. Nobody will give that information away :)

I'll give that information away...

General rule of thumb: If its named (like most meta lvl 4 items are) such as "heavy modulated pulse energy beam I", SELL it.
However some named items are NOT meta lvl 4 but are named, so its best to check attributes to see what the meta level is.

If it is not named such as "heavy pulse laser I" REPROCESS it...but its best to see what price it will get first.

These are general rules remember, and they usually apply well at the trade hubs, however its all dependent on market orders.

There's a program called EVE-Meep that will show you the numbers in advance. Or you can get a refining quote and figure out the value of the minerals.

You are correct, it will vary by location, and often by a great deal.

In general though, as others have said, meta 4 items are usually worth selling. Some lower meta items may be worth it, depending on region. For instance, the racially appropriate meta 1, 2, & 3 weapons usually sell higher than reprocessing value in my normal region, while other race's weapons don't.

In general, meta 0 modules and also ammo, cap charges, and drones are worth more reprocessed unless you put them on sell orders, assuming you have perfect refine skills and corp standings.

I've found that most items can be sell listed for more than reprocessing, but you need to establish a cutoff point where you decide it's not worth your time to bother. If something reprocesses to 2000 isk and sell orders are for 20,000 isk, yeah it's higher, but is it worth the trouble?

<--- The item database lists the reprocessing value of every module (with perfect refine), and there are 3rd party programs that do as well. I find all of them somewhat clunky so I made my own spreadsheet (yes I do a ton of reprocessing).

Oh hai McRoll, since we're enemies and all I shouldn't really help out, but a quick google search gave me this http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Refining page, quite informative I think and answers all your questions as far as I can tell, fly safe Twisted Evil

Well just check the reprocessing amount and calculate the price !

Wat i usually do is i record the prices of minerals in d ingame notepad, and check the reprocessing amount of them item, and see how is it compared to selling the item directly.

Well that was before i found 3rd party programmes that do it for you. Confused

all im saying is you gotta do your homework if u want to make a penny. Razz
