You must be doing something very wrong if you're losing sigs while trying to narrow them down. Make sure you understand what the red spheres, the red circles, double hits with same IDs etc. actually mean... |

I now feel obligated to post this: Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. It's much nicer to work with than the old system. I do miss the fishing-esque old method of doing things since it was nice and relaxing. Now you can pin down a site or a ship in no time. Just takes some work which involves some stimulating three dimensional manipulation. I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys it. |

Why would you use 6 probes? 4 is all you'll ever need. |

Ah it is good when you lose signature as it breaks the mind numbing repetetive minigame that would fail on Kongregate but is fine as cruicial part of top MMO.
It is no skill all SP now. But since you need barely any SP...

Are you using filters? The most common reason this occurs is because of filters. Otherwise, unless you're doing something really wrong, it's next to impossible to lose a signal all together With filters, lets say you only want to scan out battleships because you want to do some mission salvaging. To that end, you set up a filter to ignore all ships except battleships, then you get out scanning. You get a hit, but you can't tell what type of ship it is. As you narrow it down, you eventually get a good enough hit to identify the ship as a battlecruiser, and at this very point, you will lose the signal, as the filter can now identify it to filter it out. Until you get to that point though, the filter does not exclude the result, because the type of ship was unknown... |

Well if he's scanning down mission runners, they often will leave before you get a 100% on them. I get frustrated by this many times in some .4 mission spots...I still have yet to catch one, usually right about the time I'm about to get 100%, poof they're gone...damn bastards paying to directional scan too much...
Training your scanning skills up really high helps reduce the time it takes, but they still see you...wish they made cloaky probes :P |

The less people are aware of it the better for good recon pilots

the old scanning system was better for tracking down ships, the new system is MUCH MUCH better for exploration related activities.
With the old system it was possible to get a workable warpin to a target with a single probe from outside directional scanner range with good skills. With the new system, you have to fumble with the little widgets on the map for a period of time, all the while your probes are within directional scanning distance.
Also, some ships can be made unprobable now, but that is a different discussion. |

I belive pvp scanning is very balanced now. 15,20 seconds ( for good prober , that requires RL skills ! ) to scan the ships is just enough to get unnoticed , or to get noticed by "victim". It can really go both ways. And btw i hate unprobable ships , they should be dealth with. |

You're going to have problems with anything less than Astrometrics 3, and even then you'll need a strong signature to home in on. I'd suggest at least Astrometrics 4, Astro Acquisition 2, Astro Rangefinding 3 and Astro Pinpointing 2 for combat probe scanning to be minimally useful to you.
It's not correct to assume you can do anything at all (besides launching the probes) with less than Astrometrics 3. In fact, levels 1 and 2 of that skill might as well not even exist. |

there are like 4 or 5 differnet skills tied into scanning, along with the proper ship setup, along with implants, and basic understanding of how it works.
WHAT REALLY UPSETS ME< IS MY SCAN IDS RESET AT DT!!! So i have to scan down the same sites twice a day just to find out what the new one that spawns id, after finding out what the new id for all the old sites i scanned out yesterday.
That is suicide. Poor guys in the hole when dt flips...hehe, log in 30 mins before scan em for the ids, then 30 mins after dt scan again to rescan the sites that you found and hour ago...meh. |

Bookmark all of them. Move a single .25 AU probe around to get the new IDs. Sure, it's not great, but it's a hell of a lot faster than re-scanning them all from scratch. |
