Make the fix soon (or at least give us the option to disable it in pref.ini or somewhere externally). Many of us still cannot get to the login screen and are still waiting.

Throwing props at Demented Foe for getting us into the game. Thinking about starting a corp called The Demented Foes just to glorify his name.

Reyna Neens, there is NOTHING CPP can do to make it work (if you are having the same issues as the rest of us). If it is the Inspiron 1525 problem, the answer was posted by Demented Foe and clarified by myself. If you can clear your pref long enough to send me an ingame mail with either your vent info or phone number, I would be happy to walk you through it. That offer is open to anyone.

Edit: I see from a different thread you do not have an inspiron 1525, so this fix will not work for you. Not sure why you even posted here. The offer is still open for anyone who actually wants to talk to someone to walk them through it.

Glad that worked for some of you with the same issue. =S

Was going to post the step by step earlier, but got buried under 2 feet of snow in the US North East.

Mostly step by step instructions - use at your own risk. =D

How to uninstall your current video driver.

tl:dr - This next paragraph is the normal crap any guy/gal in IT will tell a "user" when giving them instructions. Not meant to scare you off, but realize this following is not "gospel."

======================

Before hand, while there is nothing in here that is not reversible, it is suggested that you have someone with some IT experience help you out. Keep in mind, most vendors allow you to download all the drivers for your machine at their website. In the case of Dell, you can always go to http://support.dell.com, plug in your system info, and it will find the driver you need. Keep in mind, this driver is not the latest and causes the blackscreen, but if the below doesn’t work, you can always get back to where you are now. I’ll stress this again, I have over 15 years of fixing PCs, so while this is a simple thing for most folks with a little bit of IT background, it can be impossible if you have never done a driver install before, simply because if things go wrong, you won’t have a clue on how to fix it. You should be able to take these instructions to your local pc shop though and have them try it out.

1.) Get into the control panel -> then the device manager. Depending on your OS, this can vary how you get into it. For instance, in Vista you have to hit the Windows logo towards the bottom left, select Control Panel. Then select Hardware and Sound. Then select Device Manager. You need to have system administration rights on the box in order to modify anything in this location.

2.) Next, find the display adapters section in the long list of items. You have to hit the plus (+) symbol next to it in order for it to expand. The subsection should read “Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family. “

3.) Right click “Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family” and select properties.

4.) At this point, you should have a window open with four tabs -> General, Driver, Details, Resources.

5.) Select the Driver tab.

6.) Select the option to Uninstall.

7.) Follow the instructions (usually just click next) to uninstall.

8.) At this point, your machine will need to be rebooted. You might also notice everything is extremely large on the screen. This is normal when no video driver is present.

9.) Regardless if prompted, you need to reboot the machine at this time.

10.) When Windows starts back up, you will see the same “large” effect where everything is huge. Again, this is normal.

11.) Do not allow any pop up box that comes up prompting you to “find a new driver” automatically over the internet or “have a disk” distract you. If they come up, cancel out of them. If you cannot cancel out of them, move them to the side.

12.) Open up your web browser (preferably Internet Explorer because the Intel site likes it). Go to http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm

13.) Click the button that says Check your system for the latest updates

14.) Just keep following on the onscreen instructions.

15.) Reboot at the end. Your system will take longer than normal to come back up, but again, this is normal.

16.) You might have to change your resolution back in. However, after that, you should be able to launch eve without a hitch after that.

For those with Dell Latitiude laptops and the Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset, Dell has updated drivers on their site now. Version 6.14.10.5076.

I updated the drivers, deleted the prefs.ini and was then able to log in successfully. Once in game I disabled shadows for better performance. Games running fairly well now. I'll start dialing down settings but just updating to dell's latest Mobile Intel 965 driver worked for me. Before the driver update I was getting the black screen at launch followed by BSOD. Hope this helps.

Demented, you are a God! thank you! it worked.

I was a bit scared about trying it, but a week without eve and I was getting actually contemplating re-formatting. I'd alread deleted EVE twice and reinstalled it.

I honestly cannot thank you enough.

To anyone else who has the same problem... Demented's fix works and I'm not an expert. It just works.

Thanks, I want to have your children.

Make a restore point before trying it if you're as paranoid as me, but honestly I swear on my hamster, it works.

Thanks again :))))

I can now cheerfully go for a pint without dreading the next 4 days off work without EVE. If you're ever in Madchester I owe you a pint, a smoke and a bag of the other :) thanks.

I read the main post. It says there is a bug. What they gave you was a workaround to avoid the bug, not an actual fix. I am experiencing the same problem as all of you, except I don't have the same hardware as you, so the workaround does not work. There is nothing wrong with asking for an actual fix or a different workaround.

Your absolutely right sweet heart, you don't have the same problem as us. I assumed that since you were posting in the Insipron 1525 thread, that you had an Inspiron 1525. I know this is a stupid assumption, considering I had to research you on another post to find out that you didn't have one. Everything I said is correct; The dell issue is the drivers (not CCP's problem) and just because it is a bug, doesn't mean it is CCP's bug there sunshine.

TL;DR The fix was for Insipron 1525 users.

There is a quick fix for resetting the cache, go to the CCP folder and rename the eve folder EVE_1, this will reset the cache and allow you to access the login screen with every video and audio option reset.

I have a Toshiba laptop with the Intel 965 chip. I can only get Eve to run at high shadow quality (which make all ship a neon color.) If I change to low shadow in game Eve crashes and you all know about the black screen if you try and load the game in that setting. My driver is up-to-date with Toshiba and the straight drivers from Intel will not work. Is there any chance this will be fix some time soon?

Tatsu, open your display adapters under device manger and look at your drivers version. Is it 7.14 or 7.15? it needs to be 7.15. if it isnt go on the intel site http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17407&ProdId=2800〈=eng and download this driver. Uninstall your 7.14 driver before u install the new one tho. After that get vista sp2, and get this directx http://www.blogsdna.com/2764/download-windows-7-direct3d-11-directx-11.htm anyways i had a toshiba with the same problem and that fixed it for me :).

That intel driver scan doesn't work for Inspiron 1525.

For those getting this message, I had the same issue. Had to go into the Device Manager and uninstall the custom driver from Dell (or what ever manufacture you have). Once I did that and rebooted, went back to the website (http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm). It then detected I needed a driver that was the latest. After installing and a reboot, got into eve with no problems. In this case, the custom driver provided from your vendor is outdated compared to the chip manufacturer.

i have a Toshiba that used to play EVE fine, after the last expansion, i have had the same problems in this thread.

i uninstalled my video driver, opened the link http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm in IE, detected fine, installed, rebooted, got into EVE on safemode, changed my settings, everything is great now.

give it a try.

I am owner of a Toshibia Satellite A305
This Fix has worked with my computer aswell
Before i couldnt even log in but since i deleted the Toshiba Display Driver that came with it and put in the intel Driver it has allowed me to log into the game

If u have vista
1. Go to ur Computer icon on ur desktop or in ur start window right click it and hit properites on the left side of the window that just popped up u should see Device Manager click that and hit allow from the all knowing Allow Disallow box.
2.Once in the Device manager go to where it says Display Adapters under that u should see your current driver software your right click it and hit uninstall and then also hit the check box saying do u want to uninstall the driver software once that happens ur computer will run on the lowest possible resolution and windows aero will be disabled showing the normal look of vista without the look through title bars and then restart your computer
3.Abone turning on ur computer go to this site http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm this will run a program to see what driver will work on ur system and i suggest u download it and run it once u run it the setup wizard will run to the point that ur screen will turn off for like a minute but ur computer will be on. WHATEVER U DO DONT SHUTDOWN UR COMPUTER. The Wizard will shutdown the computer when it is completed
4.When ur computer starts up ur computer will return to the previous resolution it was at and then u will be able to play eve again

So I have a inspiron 1525 and have this same issue. I have uninstalled the drivers and gone to the intel site and it never gives me any drivers to install. When I manually find the "right" drivers and install them my graphics become for lack of a better term psycadellic and obviously unuseable for any practical use let alone eve. I can log in with the right settings with the regular drivers but my ships are always some combination of random colors and the client crashes if I try to minimize the window to say switch to my other account. I have been willing to accept this while I wait for a fix for some time but I havent been able to play this game in any worth while way for some time now. I pay by the month and see little reason to renew my subsriptions any more. So any help would be great.
Inspiron 1525
vista 32 home preimum
2 gigs of ram
intel 9565 mobile express.
and yes I have followed the instructions in this thread step by step many many times with the same result.
I have a version of 64bit vista that I could install if that would fix it, but I woulld perfer not to have to do that.
thanks in advance
