Using my new Droid and an app called PhonemyPC, I can play eve from my phone! Its basically a remote desktop control thing.
Framerate on the phone is about 1fps, but the screen is crisp, clear and easily readable(the fuzzy picture is my old phones fault). I can zoom in and out on the client to see things with more detail.
I havent figured out how to do some mouse functions like click and drag. But I was able to chat, leave station, warp around, activate mods, lock targets and redock without a problem. Need to figure some more things out, but it seems I could at the very least chat, change skills and do some mining from my phone :)

Oh sweet as.

I had thought about this. Now you sir, have started a revolution. If only to log in and change skills, this is fantastic.

Applause.

hehe I've got an old old Palm Tungsten E2 that I use to get into eve :)

VNC for palm is win :) then I just use the wifi and remote desktop over and change skill or start up eve, wait bit due to screen redraw, then swap skills.

omg i need a droid. i would never go into combat with that thing, but i can do some afk mining or moving cargo halfway across eve. start strip miners on the biggest rock, get the drones out and stick in pocket. save your electric bill also. shame its not using nvidia tegra, you could get 3 fps!

Woudlnt save on the electric bill, Eve is running on my gaming computer. I'm simply controlling the computer from my phone(from anywhere!).
And the video chipset isnt the bottleneck, its the remote desktop program. All the phone is really rendering is a video feed from my computer, and this thing plays movies just dandy :)

So you use a Remote Login to a WinX system and play through the handheld? I might try this with my Dell Axim.

I'm 100% Chribba or some other bored nerd did this five years ago.

Also, the reason you're probably getting 1fps is because the video stream goes through their servers (hello privacy alert), for whatever reason. It probably uses SSL and maybe the RDP protocol in some way.

You're better off using a java-capable mobile browser and a web based service to do the same thing. Hamachi LogMeIn Free is decent, and you'd still have multitouch zoom because its all part of the browser experience.

This would probably be nicer on an HD2 or something, just because it has a massive 4.3" screen and faster processor.

Droid has slightly better resolution though :P 854x480 vs 800x480. And Also no keyboard for the HD2 so then you would lose more screen to have key options for chat. The client I'm using has multi touch already :)

Yes I'm pretty sure Chribba was the first to do this years ago.

I did it a while ago on my iPhone, using JaaduVNC.

Its fun for about a minute. Pretty useless to change skills now that we have the queue.

Lastly, I want a HD2. Sad

I think it's amazing that I can play some browser games on my phone now.

I just joined the data plan last month :]

Did this on a Sony PSP yeeeears ago. Remote VNC through the PSP handheld into gaming system, remapped mouse controls to triggers and joystick, and used the built-in virtual keyboard for typing.

It worked well for chatting and changing skills, but not much else. Screen redraw rate was always a problem.

Guys, I wasnt claiming to be the "first" to do this. It took me 5 mintues to install this software and do this, so I'm sure someone else out there has tried it before. But I didnt see any recent(or any ever)threads on it, so I figured I'd post a "hey, check this out" thread in the hopes of seeing more people try it and maybe further the topic.Very Happy

Oh, puh-lease! I did this years ago back on my game boy color, which sent a telegram containing my input directly to CCP's servers...

But seriously, pretty cool.

Well done to the OP, if it works and gets you somewhere in-game, power to ya mate.

Comment Fail. This is pretty short-sighted nonsense really - there are quite a few of us who work away and don't get back home every night like bunnykins Daelorn here.

Yes of course you can train a longer skill but often that's not best way forward towards supreme skill-fu... currently the skill queue won't let you add a skill unless all pre-requisites are already trained. For example, you can't add Small Beam Laser Specialisation I to the queue while still training Small Energy Turret V.
Sometimes a few hours is all you need to get that needed skill set before a corp operation starts.

Having a handy, mobile way of logging in just using a smart phone, even if it is at 1fps will sure be helpful to some out there, for this and reasons like it.

Thanks to OP for possibly-necro-ing a previous topic, but definitely a worthwhile subject.

I've discovered another fun use of this software. Install it on your spouses computer.....so you can take it over and annoy them while they are trying to surf youtube Laughing

I wish I had this enabled.

My office sent me away for two weeks on the day of the patch. I had a 5 day skill running, but they sent me away for longer.

I really have to hook something up on my work computer so I can control my machine back home.

OP: So what If people did it before, you got it working for yourself and that simply ROCKS!

I'm not impressed. I did this with the US Postal system a few years ago, wrote my sister a letter and she changed my skill, worked perfectly. FPS was kind of low.

Been doing this for a while.

I use a HTC Diamond2 and the Logmein software.

Not bad with 3g but finding a wireless network is better.

OK for skills, trades and short hisec journeys but wouldnt risk much else.
