Making A Killing: The Untold Story of Psychotropic Drugging

Shocked

The movie fails to grasp the bigger picture. And the bigger picture is that making business out of human health, out of life and death issues, does not work. It is common knowledge that pharmaceutical companies are not interested in developing cures. They are much more interested in developing drugs that treat symptoms, and then marketing drugs out to doctors and patients to increase sales, even if they have to persuade you that you have the symptoms. Quite obviously it is more profitable this way because it keeps people buying drugs from them for years instead of becoming well after drinking some pills for a week. It all boils down to this: when being faced with a choice, unregulated business will not do what is best for society, for the people, but instead it will do whatever will maximize its own profit as is happening with pharma industry. In US they have managed to make a huge business out of people's health and well it is biting Americans in the ass right now. Psychiatrists do not have a massive global conspiracy going against you and psychotropic drugs are just one little piece of this much bigger issue of how exactly should medical research should be regulated and directed.

Also wtf is with all this statements that are trying to imply causation instead of correlation? "The public has paid the ultimate price" ... "An estimated half of all Americans who commit suicide are on psychotropic drugs" ... "Annually psychotropic drugs are estimated to kill 2.5 times more people than are killed by homicide". You would think the producers of this movie are considering you, the viewer, to be quite stupid that they are using such reasoning to support their cause Wink

documentary a must see

Ok oope, listen.

Just because you find a documentary relevant and thrilling does not mean the rest of the world must see it. If you were to give a detailed analysis of this said film, rather than just 2 lines that look like you got it off of the back of the DVD case, then I may show some interest.

That being said, this documentary may actually be good. however, after seeing a million similar threads in this style, I cant be asked to click on a link that someone throws at me.

Then the idea that you may not agree with the main idea of the film, but rather your political stance, comes into play, and more or less makes whatever you say a bias.

More annoying than that would be the documentaries that predict the end of the world via a giant mega-corporation that owns all and sees all, mainly because we were too foolish to act back then.

Finally, after seeing too many of these threads so far, i can give you a summary of the following posts:

in the next 3 posts, someone will write a very large wall of text, either for or against your idea. That idea serves as trollbait, bringing more and more arguments in, all the while people are going in and out of the thread, making mundane comments like mine and never giving a second thought.

While the majority of the populace will have moved on, there will be 2-3 people who will continue to argue with each other, necro'ing this thread back to the front page where it will block more interesting and relevant threads. This flame war will continue until either the mods lock it, or people just give up after pages and pages of nobody caring.

Then, when all this is done, 4 or less days later, someone else will post a new thread on a documentary involving a controversial, political, or downright ******ed topic, and the cycle will begin anew.

NOT THIS TIME.

I say we make this thread about kittens. What would be the best kind of kitten for a crazy cat lady to own? What food should you not give kittens? Can kittens fly?

I expect these answers to be clear, concise, and humorous, with each comment still paying respect to the OP by quoting some part of it.

TL; DR: thread is now about kittens. To prevent this from being locked too early, please quote the op and see if you can find out his viewpoint on kittens by mixing quotes. That is all.

EDIT: After reading the more in depth description on the site linked, i believe that this is a doomsday or a WAKE THE **** UP sort of documentary which often calls for such terrible changes that the world would be worse off if they went around.

As a Psychologist against the wanton use and abuse of drugs by Psychiatrists, I want to let you all know that I believe Veterinary Practitioners coupled with Psychiatrists are out to get the dog owners, and rightly so, for I am a dog person and people here seem to like cats.
