Is there any reason why the Amarrians are speaking Russian at the end of the Dominion trailer. Of course, the Gallente are speaking English, but there seems to be some kind of significance in the Amarrians speaking Russian, or something that sounds an awful lot like it.

Since the trailers are maily aimed at non-EVE players, I'd imagine that CCP are trying to show that EVE has a worldwide player base.

Although it would be interesting to see if there was a fluff reason.

As someone said above the voices are out of context. There were Amarr ships in the Coalition fleet (the ones attacking the outpost first) that had French sounding accents.

The voices represent the diversity of EVE's playerbase. Not just across English speaking players.

its quite obvious (to me atleast) that 0.0 combatants were being portrayed, not empire factions.

notice how they introduce each group (blackhawk alliance and flameburst coalition)

and also how they are fighting over a 0.0 system in branch

and how this dominion has almost nothing to do with empire factions and is focusing on major changes to sov and alliance scale warfareRolling Eyes

It's an "out of character" video, really. Look at it in the same way as the Butterfly Effect trailer - it's focusing on EVE players themselves, as opposed to NPC entities in-game.

Actually, they should be speaking French if this had been a video about a war between the NPC empires.

No. After thousands of years the language would have changed so much that it would in no way resemble French.

The only race that even has a chance of speaking the same language in eve present time as they did when the gate collapsed is the Amarrians. And that's only because the entire civilization would have had been reading and studying the same book through the entire history... the Amarrian Scriptures. Even then the chances are pretty damn slim.

Summary: They are not Amarrians speaking Russian, they are Russians speaking Russian.

Besides, the French/Icelandic fleet fielded even more Amarr ships.

Will their be any CCP produced Dominion related media (videos or news items) that involve the NPCs? Or are they leading more towards DUST 514 + related Eve-Online expansion?

Do note that the Gallente have French influences integrated in their system and they are not French. Though, their leaders are probably French descendants by the look of their history.

I think the language diversity in the trailer makes it even more appealing for non-EvE gamers.

As a real life english player, with a immigrant Gallente character, it was a pretty nice surprise.

I kinda feel a russian accent was used for it's menacing vibe, with the whole slaughter everyone command, it's a pretty effective accent at issuing menacing vibes and all that.

I agree with Faolan on the Russian accent used for the effect. I mean really, you wouldn't want some efeminate sounding 13 year old saying "burn them all", that just wouldn't sound right.

Or how about someone from my neck of the woods (Southern U.S.) saying something like "Hey boys, lets whoop up on them ole boys and show em who's boss".

I think they got the affect they were shooting for.

I dunno, to me it sounded more like a very cheap and overacted attempt at sounding cool. English comms felt a lot more natural and "realistic" while making a lot more sense as well. But then, russian is my first language; maybe english comms also sounded like amateur theatricals to native speakers.

For me the English did sound a bit less theatrical than the Russian. As you said yourself this is probably because I'm an American and English is my first language. Also the Russian does get the effect they are looking for me because I can't undestarnd what any of the words actually mean.
