Been thinking, which is always dangerous on a late Saturday night, that instead of using a faction battleship, or a marauder in low-sec, why not use a carrier? It's a lot cheaper, both in initial cost, and because it can be insured. With insurance it costs less to lose then a HAC (except expensive mods of course).

But how would you fit a Chimera for low-sec station games?

My initial fit is something like this:

[Chimera, Chimera]
Capacitor Power Relay II
Capacitor Power Relay II
Capacitor Power Relay II
Capacitor Power Relay II

Capital Shield Booster I
Caldari Navy Shield Boost Amplifier
Invulnerability Field II
Invulnerability Field II
Warp Disruptor II
Stasis Webifier II
Warp Scrambler II

Drone Control Unit I
Drone Control Unit I
Heavy Energy Neutralizer II
Heavy Energy Neutralizer II
Amarr Navy Large EMP Smartbomb

Large Semiconductor Memory Cell I
Large Semiconductor Memory Cell I
Large Semiconductor Memory Cell I

Einherji x5
Templar x5
Dragonfly x2
Garde II x12
Bouncer II x12
Warrior II x12
Hammerhead II x12

I've taken two faction mods (the CN SBA and the navy SB) because I feel these add a lot for their cost. The single CN SBA negates all the side-effects of the cap power relays in the low-slots, and the navy SB has an important range increase to 7.5km. I am aware that I need to be positioned so that the station is 7.5km away, and that can be dangerous, unless it's the correct station (where the docking ring is greater then 7.5km).

It's not meant as a pimp-mobile, but rather an option to flying Nightmares/Paladin/CNR etc, and the cost of the fitting suggestions should reflect that, i.e. no filling everything with faction+ mods.

Then you will die. Any of the faction militias will leap at the chance to kill a solo carrier with gcc so you really need to think about staying in docking range at all times and even then its fairly easy to warp in another carrier or dread right on top of you to bump you like a billiard ball faaar from the station so the blob can reap you.

Drone Control Units are still less useful than say, Neuts and Smartbombs if you (unwisely) go that route. Go with 3 neuts/2 smarties or 4/1

Carry many many more Heavy/Medium/Light drones. They'll be doing the bulk of your work, as fighers do pretty poorly on moving sub BS and BS sometimes.

Where are your sensor boosters? If it takes you 45 seconds to lock a ship, they'll be long-gone.

Why are you using smartbombs in low-sec? They won't bubble you and it's not like a smartbomb will kill anything in lowsec considering ships are mainly buffer tanked with high dps there.

Maybe it costs less than a HAC but it's also far less useful at what you want to do.

First of all, you don't use capitals solo unless you've got friends who can come and bail you out. If people know you're using a carrier then they will wait for your ass and bump you off station no problem, if you're solo that is.

Secondly, you won't get any decent kills because anyone can evade a carrier on station. They're support ships. Use them as such

Warp Scrambler and Web on a solo lowsec Chimera?

This will end well.

I wouldn't leave dock range with a carrier solo, so no point using smartbombs. Probably should replace the cap power relays with best named as they give less penalty.

cap relays too.

it beats this chimera setup with 2xrelays + 2xcap flux coils that we killed some months ago tho.

faction power diags seems more of a sensible choice. Hell, even T2 power diags seems more of a sensible choice.
