I was thinking of turning a new leaf, with my broad array of expertise, and wanted to test the shark-infested waters of piracy.

Anyone willing to suggest ships commonly seen prowling lowsec, or maybe a special setup/ship that you think would be interesting.

I hear a lot of talk about the Rifter. I'm assuming because they sell like college-ruled paper, and have a decent output. What else is out there?

Seems to be ordered by frigate, cruiser, bc, af.

The list seems pretty much to be the top of each class.

It's shipclasses. Basically he listed in order: Frigates, Cruisers, Battlecruisers, tech2 Frigs, HAC's, Battleships. Any of the ships he listed are common ships for pirates, but you could still add a bunch of ships to the list I guess.

Edit: Spelling

For sure some could be added.

I listed, basically, viable solo ships, leaving out super expensive stuff (CS).

Since I'm Caldari, I've been looking at the Harpy. I suppose it doesn't count as "common", but I think it's definitely got a place in PvP. Possibly fitted with rails.

*note* Certainly not a cost efficient choice.

I understood that part, and you gave a good list :) Just felt like I had to explain to the OP that there is more.

Domi sucks for gate / station work because you rely on drone dps and they get popped, i prefer a geddon or mega

I have had some good success with the Harpy. I use shield buffer blaster fits, YMMV. Some people swear by MWD and rails. Merlin is decent as far as frigates go, and a good ship for learning. Kestrel can work in certain cases, you'll have to be careful about picking targets though.

Caracal isn't too bad. AMLs will eat frigates alive and drive off interceptors, and you can offer some damage-at-range or EWar support for a small gang. Drake is a good choice as long as you don't over-tank it. Get some damage mods and HAMs on there!

If you want some laughs, try a Griffin. AB and Scram, plus two multis (or racials if you know your target ahead of time), and whatever damage you can fit. On a more serious note, if in a gang, ECM is always a welcome addition. You won't be high on the kill mail in terms of damage, but your gang will thank you because they aren't dying as much.

I have been wanting to try Blaster Moa, but haven't actually done so yet. As far as Interceptors go, I have looked at the Crow but have wondered how people kill anything with such low DPS.

The Harpy is working out great for me so far. With the rails and appropriate ammo, I'm fitting 4 rails and a missile launcher, and orbiting nicely at 20km, pelting away with full intensity. Rather than a MWD, I went with the AB. It's done well so far, but I can see the potential of the MWD. Even with the AB, though, I have control over distance; in most cases.

I don't mind lacking in the kill mails. So long as I'm fulfilling a role.

Y'all forgot bombers, which have been popular for solo work lately, but I guess if you're looking to pirate in lowsec, no bombs means no bombers.
