Why is blobbing possible ?
Because we can call names to shoot at as fleet commanders.

Why is it that in a game like Allegiance this is not happening apart from the fact that controls are not the same ?
Because they can't call names.

Why in RL, in a dogfight, all planes are not shooting the same target as one.
Because they can't call names.

In these situations you are looking at the biggest treath. (The bomber, the logistic ship repairing it, the frigs and cruisers defending the capital ship, got one on my six, etc...)

Remove names from the overview. It will be a good start.

True, forgot about the tagging. Allthough not really in use today.

Lets get rid of it too.
Actually, rid of whatever on the overview that goes behind what you could see in RL.

I'm really convinced it would change the way we fight against each other.

There is nothing wrong with blobbing and in an open pvp game it is one of the main ways to accomplish your goals.

Don't get ****ed if you are a bandit and the local king sends an army to take care of the bandits. That is just how it works.

I agree there's a problem, but I don't think this is a good solution. It's useful to see names in lots of different circumstances, not just for FC.

How about having a reverse locking bandwidth?

So a frigate could only be locked by x number of ships, while a dreadnaught could only be locked by y number of ships?

I agree whit the above statement. The real challenge is going to be to find a solution in the direction of giving no more information as what would be the case in RL.

In my opinion it is really the core of the problem.

I really would love to see two blobs figting eachother in a more realistic way with squads swarming around each other

Sorry but I enjoy the current setup as I enjoy the fact some one can tell me to do;

- Focus fire on X target
- Focus rep on Y corp mate
- Focus jam on Z annoying WT

If you remove the names you dont solve anything, all that happens is you get a new command which will be ;

a) FC warps to X but everyone else warps to 10km behind or whatever
b) FC then calls targets based on range and ship type; IE Focus fire on Navy Mega at 12.6kms from me

When you change the mechanics, people just adapt, and thus you will complain about the new adaptation till the game is carebear to the point where only 1 ship can Max lock another ship (like posted above) and it becomes a lame a$$ game.

Leave it please as is.

Your analysis is wrong.
Try again.

It would be perfectly ok to say : "attack the logistic ships first" than the megatron etc...
The foe will react and try to kill the frigs and cruisers attacking the logistic ship first etc..
Than chaos kicks in as things evolve...

There would be more tactics during the fight than just calling targets.

ummm...no. Bringing in the real world fails on way too many fronts for it to even come up.

Also, you need to look a little more at modern warfare; particularly, battlefield awareness systems such as VIDS.

Forgot to add, this is a Space game with large scale ships not small Tie / X wing fighters. X3 maybe more for you then.

This is the future game, we have turrets on ships that move for us, we dont really have to move the ships unless it is to get into range. If you want something more fast paced maybe another game type?

Also, why dont you use the tactic yourself when you get into PvP, get all your ships, split up into small groups and go to town on the WTs. You know, have 2 frigs attack a cruiser each and 1 BS attack a BS, one on one etc. ? ? Maybe you can start a trend ..... :) And hope others follow..

Also... The FC could just fire first with something highly visible (say an Abbadon laser volley) and say "Everyone fire on my target!"
