Hi all.

My question is simple really.

Do you think CCP employ market analists, to watch the internal market and track all its transactions (even the ones we can't see like contracts and all other payments made) to balance the game?

I only ask as there seems to be a plethora of people here with huge experience or knowledge on trading and economics and know the ins and outs of everything. I was wondering if CCP did the same or just best guess the value of stuff and how changing something may impact the game.

Any thoughts.

Tommy

As per the last fanfest videos their economics and statistics team is what, 7 people? 9 people? Something like that. Anyway, it would seem they have a reasonable amount of manpower investigating how various mechanics work in the live system.

CCP has one gentleman who's job it is, AFAIK, to keep an eye on the "economy" of EvE, including it's marketplaces and analyzing the vast wads o' data that go with it.

I can't spell his name correctly, much less pronounce it properly, so I will let someone else name the good Doctor.

They do, they have an head analyst and possibly others.
They have to perform both fundamental and technical analysis, even if tbh they kinda slack sometimes. Otherwise they'd have noticed certain exploits.

I beg to differ about the huge knowledge of trading and economics of the players.
Predicting that a mineral soon nerfed will tank does not require a lot of thought. Manipulating a market does not require good planning in EvE, where a single "hand" can take over a market even in Jita.

There are pro traders but of course they don't poke their nose out a lot. If you search the forum you'll notice how few analyze the market periods, anticipate the trend (making it redundant to do what so many do: 0.01 isk all day long).

How many analyses do you see on MD a year? Akita's and?

Now compare with how many you *daily* see posted in RL traders forums and you get the idea of the difference.

Examples: the following are graphs taken even *before* starting the analysis on the trend.

How is it that homophone is blocked, but analist slides on through.

edit: Oh, apparently homophone isn't blocked anymore or something.

@VV: You can get more data from yahoo finance than you can get from EVE's market software. Maybe if it weren't such an eye gouging pain in the nerts to collect data people would do more analytical work>

They have a whole team of people doing data analysis, but frankly they seem like complete incompetents. Watch the video from fanfest to see the kind of stuff they do.

Actually, EvE does not give any data out at all.
You can export the current region orders but not the actual sales. Now, this could still yield decently representative data in the hottest Jita markets as it's possible to assume that prices move closely after actual sales. But to get viable data say for Oursulaert beyond tritanium and little else, that would be pointless. As all you'd get is a collection of quotes that are not granted to happen in any timely manner.

Edit: and still, I could produce a system to create Jita's trends analysis for real traders to peruse but... I will never, ever, ever have the RL time to do so Mad

Why would any trader tell you an easy way to make isk for free? Akita is only doing what he's doing cause he has way to much time on his hands.
