I see some very good ideas and have only one to add, while we are in search of missions and talking to everyone can we develope a spot or a room were we can use a fitting tool. With all that has been changed and is going to change it would (at least seems) be easy enough to do and would help alot to fit for new missions without the extra cost of buying things we didnt need or cant fit. More time looking for a mission less time running around for a new fit that dont work.

I didn't read the whole thread so it might be suggested before, but how about some research agent missions? It would really help them to differ from ordinary courier runs.

There should still be those "we need this from station x, go get it" ones, but mix them with new in-station ones. Some ideas could be new half-life style laboratory assistant work, hacking done like in system shock or dead space 2 and missions with logic puzzles. Let's have some examples.

Example: laboratory assistant:

"Hello, internet spaceship captain. This is your research agent. We've had a little bad luck. My assistant for your project caught a cold and cannot come to work today. Since you have the qualification in the field, I figured I could ask you to help in his stead. I can keep the project moving even without it, but it would greatly speed up the process. Will you help?"

The mission:

This should be familiar to anyone who has played Half-life. Listen to the researcher and move this equipment here, connect those cables, get a battery from next door, flip this switch and so on.

Example: puzzle:

"Hello, internet spaceship captain. The ship carrying the prototype fusion thruster we need for your astronautic research was attacked by pirates last night. The ship made it to he station but the thruster packaging was thrown around in the firefight and was broken into pieces. We have called a techician who worked on the prototype but his ship is scheduled to arrive later this evening. We cannot advance the research without having this part functional. Since you have the knowledge in this field would you like to see if you can make anything out of the wreck?"

The mission:

Figure out how the parts go together. The dig had one like I was thinking (see 6:10 in the video). You could even balance the puzzles according your skills and attributes. Say 3 pieces + 4 per level of the mission. Link the mission to some attribute (or two), take the average number (23 with implants?) and add or remove a piece for every 2 points it differs. Also you could drop a piece for every level of the skill it exceeds the level of the mission. So to fix the thruster above on a level 2 mission with 20 points in the linked attribute and level 3 astronautic science skill you'd have 3(base) + 2*4(mission level) - (2-3)(from the astronautics skill) +1(lower attribute) = 11 pieces to combine.

I'd like to see some levels to the station. So that if your whiter than white youll stick to the open nice areas safe with guards and such. then i your more like me you will find the darker areas where smugglers, hitmen, the top bounties hang out.... find and interact with other players, do some underhand deals. get some payed muscle for that adventure your looking for etc....

Most of all i'd like it to not be compulsory, if i didnt have the time i'd like to just see my agent on a screen and not be so personal....

think Starwars, B5's down below, Blade Runners Market Firefly etc.... you know the score.Wink

Perhaps station stuff would be a good chance to expand bounty hunting. Hit up contacts. shake down associates. maybe some bounty specific missions involving bagging NPC's and dragging them off station in your cargo hold after tracking them down. Perhaps treat player bounty contracts like limited kill rights. limited numbers of people can claim the contracts from contacts. Track them down through their local haunts and contacts, corner them in a station, and claim the bounty in a dramatic and somehow mystically-balanced system of intrigue and danger.

Also. I know the pilots are in pods, but (and this could be explained through new pod tech)i think it would be amazing to be able to de-pod mid flight and bum around my ship. see the crew. all the places that in a sci-fi world would exist within a ship of that size.

I know that's not WiS but it would still be cool.

I noticed someone mentioned privateer and privateer: RF on the first page. A few of the things I liked about the privateer mission system compared to eve was. One you joined either or both a mercenary or merchant guild, you could browse over a list of available missions and cherry pick hard or easy ones, and the merchant guild was all cargo hauling from place to place of different sizes.

As eve is now people who like to kill things constant get stuck with "Run this box of crap, or load of bums to station XXX". Naturally station XXX is a different corp which you either cant or don't want another mission from. And anyone starting up the indy road is urber screwed with missions, as even agents that do often give kill missions too. And those types of agents are generally rare compared to the number of stations most public corps have.

I would suggest moving pure one mission kill to a list style interface and doing the same with manufacture/cargo missions. Placeing more manufacture and cargo missions on each station, and making those 4/5 mission story liners available only from a agent for much better returns than they do now. As they tend to be really crappy in payout / standing given compared to many of the kill missions.

I would say the addition of hall of fame for all mission runners as to:

1. the highest standing average a player has towards a certain faction or corporation.

2. highest number of completed missions

3. highest number of npc kill counts.

the addition of this would be great as it will add encouragement to the players who constantly do mission to strive to the top of this ranking slots. =)

Frankly, there's not much point to WiS if you can't assassinate people. Sure, make it really hard to smuggle in weapons. Use weapon smuggling skills or something. The higher the sec, the tighter the security.

That guy who's just too good in his ship....pod him in the station! Might be an opportunity to level the playing field for those who are upset about the skills imbalance between long time players and newbs.

Be pretty interesting interaction too to be sitting there at your station bar, drinking your station beer, watching your station stripper and then all the sudden....back in your pod. WHA??

Hell, this would be a great way to enhance the bounty system. Of course it would be mildly predicated on the fact that people would go into stations and not just sit in their ships. I wouldn't want to see that forced on us either.

This is totally where I'd rather see station walking go than WoW like run here and there....click the guy with the glowing head junk. I'm very worried that EvE is heading too much in that direction.

Idk, walking in stations would have to have some sort of massive reward for me to risk getting podded in station.

Seems like a complete waste of coding effort, time, and energy, to allow pvp in WiS just so that some people can grief other folks when their trying to watch their exotic dancers.

Yeah, it would need some sort of balance. It should be hard to get weapons into a station for one. Also, some reasonable method of escape for people who are keeping their back eyes open.

Of course, your target needs the same opportunity to assassinate you.

I want something like the bars in remote areas where everyone stops to size up the new guy walking in. Like on Tatoine where sudden killing and/or dismemberment garners little more attention.

Wouldn't be for everyone of course so that level of lawlessness would be reserved for 0.0, which increasing security with sec level. Security in outposts could be an upgrade (because even though only your trusted characters can get in, any one of them could be a spy).

I dont want ANY missions with WiS. I could care less about WiS and you could cancel the whole thing, and it would be just fine.
Please dont turn this into World of Warcraft!

I dont want to do "crafting" in station anymore than I already am. I dont want to have to "grind" missions to be able to open something better up.

Cancel the whole, and stop wasting time on it. Create some new content for missions instead.

Haven't read through all 15 pages yet, but one idea I'd like to see is something like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. The main concept is that you hunt a character while you may or may not have someone hunting you on station.

It could be a station only type mission where you know by accepting to participate in the mission that you will be stuck in station until you either complete, fail, or decline/reject the mission to find/kill/tag, the applicable player.

Personally I would like a job board and missions reworked.

If I'm a courier mission runner that has invested skills to enhance that area, I don't want to fight NPCs. The same is true for combat mission runners and miners as well. If I enjoy blowing NPCs up or mining the asteroid belts, WTF do I want to haul some crap to another station for?

Allow players to choose which type of mission (combat, mining, courier) and have the missions only require those things would make things much simpler and streamline PvE quite a bit. Exclude storyline arcs from this grouping, but include the ability to avoid storyline arcs if you choose to.

Giving players more choices and options about how to play is seldom a bad thing.

I think the graphical resources from WIS could be used to enhance missions with cutscenes. You could play a cutscene while warping to the mission area, or while in between gates, or when you turn in the mission. Maybe you could play them in a window so that folks don't pod you while you're watching the movie. CCP could bring more life and drama to the stories of these missions. Kinda like mass effect 2. It would also look great in stereoscopic 3D.

I want to be a stations underworld kingpin.
Slowly taking over the NPC dealers, pimps and legbreakers.
So i can work up from the low level players till I find someone high level and have wee chat with them. Perhaps a fight could go down or we just talk depending on my social skills.
Also if i dont finish the fight quickly enough security break up the fight, meaning i have to try and locate the boss again.
Once he loses he agrees to turn over 20% of he profit a day. This makes me station Kingpin.
I have to resolve issues (like the missions you get from R&D agents) and other players can topple me, or to avoid the teaspoon issue, the more player succeed in turning an NPC boss reduces the amount of reward available.

I would LOVE to see Mass Effect-type environments, action and quests in space stations. That would include a new skill-tree that has to do with guns, in-person combat and weapon skills, etc.

The missions could have more steps, to give them more depth and meaning. Stations are space cities and if I'm not mistaken, EVE is THE largest MMO to date, with the largest potential for PvE and Cooperative PvE with this new feature.

1. You have to search and procure a Datacore. Player chooses WHICH type.
2. You take the acquired datacore to some shady guy in a shop. He changes the data inside to be used as sabotage code.
3. You go to space equiped with a Codebreaker and the modified datacore. Some subsystem related to the original type of datacore is going to be severely compromised.
4. You go to battle against the enemy with the applyed bonus.

First of all, before we ever get to the missions we need to talk about the stations themselves. We need the stations to be *alive*. Right now whenever a player is in station it looks deserted with no other ship in sight... what a bummer and takes away from immersion every time.

First, how about allowing for some station traffic in the form of utility ships, tows, etc (think about the hussle and bussle of a large airport and try to simulate that). We also need to see other ships docking and taking off. These don't have to be Player ships. They can be just decorations. For example, a Megathron parked two spots over slowly takes off and moves toward the dock exit. Then 10 minutes later a new ship lands in that place. The frequency of in station NPC traffic can be a reflexion of the station's player activity over the last 24 hours. A station like Jita would have a huge ammount of instation traffice, where a small 0.0 station would have only a couple of ships sporatically.

If we want to take it to the next level, the type of ships seen could be a representation of the types of ships actually docking and leaving. A player with a Rokh docks? Then the players in station would see a representative Rokh park. A thorax undocks? Then the players in station see a thorax float off toward the exit.

Additionally there should be two types of docks and undocks. 1) The first would be 'Quick docking' and 'Quick undocking' which would be identical to the current way of docking now (no cinematics). 2) The 2nd would be a 'Cenamatic Dock' and 'Cenamtic Undock' which would show the ship floating into its docking station and when taking off, would show the ship floating off and moving toward the exit (a large opening in the station). The players would have the option for quick docking/undocking on the 'right click menu', or perhaps as a 2nd undock button on the statioin screen (one that states 'quick dock' and one that 'states cinenatic undock').

This would take the PvE emersion to the next level IMHO.

One of the best ideas imo, it's a small thing but would make new players happy :P and perhaps adding cinematic camera to the ships would be a bad idea too :P(by cinematic I mean from the cockpit, once you start flying battlecruisers the concept of size disappears, even on close zoom camera is located in a very awkward position(showing the back engine). It wouldn't make a big difference for the gameplay)
but about captain quarters.... what about the corporation head quarter or corporate office, where you could control poses, check the status of members(their location, ships they are flying). Possible installations of clone bays and for 0.0 scanners to locate cloaked ships some goodies which would be fantastic ISK sinks :P .

Missions need to add more variety and character to them, related to the skill system in EVE.

Think of mini-arcs, just like the multi-step missions already in place, but talking to different people, with different needs.

Another sample mission:

1. You must scan and recon a site. The type depends on the Agent and Corp.
2. After the site is found, you have to procure and secure another coordinate stolen while inbound.
3. With both of them, another site is revealed, a Worm Hole.
4. You have to enter the worm hole to do a dangerous Recon Mission, only to find some faction already there.
5. The worm hole is the base of operations of the faction and is being used to safely wreck havoc in different sectors. A full force must go back there and deal with them.
6. COOPERATIVE gameplay is strongly recommended and balanced so no single pilot could ever do it. You must fleet to win this one and the rewards for cooperation are equal to all.
7. Something goes wrong during the mission... surprise us.
8. We get back to the agent only to find out he has been assassinated and someone else has taken his place. First mission: help the investigation.

I could keep going, but I hope you guys get the idea. You probably will have to program an entire mission framework system like The Witcher or Bioware's Mass Effect to accomplish this.

To me EVE has the best potential for superb mission content than any other game currently being offered. I hope you can pull this one.

So the "War" system is a little bit broken in Eve right now. Someone can aggress, pay 2m isk per week and be able to kill someone. In history, games, and the real world, there is typically a larger risk for going to war. The defender can take the war to the aggressor, destroying the aggressors home/country/belongings.

In Eve however, the only way for the defender to end a war is hope the aggressor runs out of money, or gets bored. You can't make the aggressor run out of money if all they do is sit in a station.

So I propose that under war dec's, players be allowed to go into the station and confront their opposition (either side of the war) with a mechanic to actually end the war. Such as killing a particular target, or accomplishing some form of mission. I don't have a fleshed out idea, its just something to think about as right now there is no mechanic to end the war like there should be on the defenders side.

Flame all you want about war mechanics being "great" or whatever, but it really does need some fixing. I'm all for wars being a part of the game, but this is an opportunity to make some changes to a mechanic that needs some attention.
