Should've asked this question here. I have a second Eve account that I'll someday run missions on (not sure when) to make easy ISK. So I'm going to train that char's flying skills. Since I expect that char to generate ISK, I'm not concerned about the cost of the ship and will likely use many faction mods. What's ship runs missions the fastest with the least chance of being destroyed?

While true.

I have in fact used the fallowing setup to successfully run many L2 L3 and L4s. I'm almost certain this will, if I fit it with a Civy Gun, do L5 Alluring Emanations. And it's align time is a tad bit better than the ISK mobile.

Hi Frangela
Unlike the previous 2 authors I'lle try to actually help. Mission running is diverse and a ship that runs mission X fine will struggle in mission Y. I personally run with a abbadon for Lvl 4's not because its the easiest but the most fun for me. The fitting of the ships obviously relate to your skill and pocket. One word of advice though the isk doesn't start "flowing" immediately and it's not all that easy to do as it gets tedious as hell some times. To get to level 4's the 1 -3 must be done first and that will take a decent amount of time to get through depending on the frequency of the runs. I personally did Lvl 1 & 2's in a Caracel, Lvl 3's in a Drake and harbinger and my 4's in my Cybadonn One aka Abbadon (Just love that ship to bits). As for faction mods just fitting my abby cost a quick 450 mil isk in faction mods so spending can get out of hand. Hope this helps!

for all round ability there is nothing wrong with an active tank nighthawk. You can alter missile type to suit any damage type needed (although there is the kin damage bonus) and it tanks seriously well with only a tech 2 fit. OK its maybe not as good as a marauder or navy raven or nightmare, but its a fraction of the cost and doesnt need expensive officer loot to work.

If you do want to spend more money to improve its tank I would suggest getting some or all of the crystal implant set - does more than officer loot and it works on any active shield tanked ship

Because of their long distance attack, and ability to passively tanking effectively, Caldari missile boats are the mission kings.

The Drake will handle any level 4 mission without a lot of difficulty. For more money and training, the Nighthawk is faster than a Drake.

The Raven handles lvl 4 missions well, as long as you don't run into any neutralizing towers or ships. This ship needs to be actively tanked.

The fastest, and most expensive. are the Caldari Navy Raven and the Golem. Nothing like applying overpowering DPS from 100+ km. away.

This seems to be the general consensus. However, a proper Golem set-up takes a lot of training time, so I'd aim for a proper CNR set-up and then move towards the Golem.

Any battleship can do a good job in level 4 missions.

I read the dribble about how the raven/CNR running cruise missiles are the best, and how other ships can't compete. Basically it means that the raven/CNR flier either dont know how to fit/fly non-caldari ships, or they are stuppid.

Lets take 2 examples (just 2 as have only bothered checking 2). Take Amarr space, a geddon or abaddon will pump more dps, wont have thier lasers shot down (like cruise missiles vs defender missiles). So the caldari ships have long range? Most missions in Amarr space are much closer so the range is not a problem for non-caldari, and many npc's are so close they get under the caldari missiles, ie too close.

We also have the domi, we hear several times a week from caldari flying pilots how their cruise missiles boats are better than a domi, yet if one pulls a bit of tank off the domi to similar levels as a raven, can run more therm/kin dps than any caldari cruise missile boat by using sentry drones + 350mm rails. This makes me believe that many flying raven/CNR's dont have the first idea how to fit a ship, even their own. They probably had to borrow the fit setup from other sources are incapable of working it out for themselves given their comments about non raven/CNR ships for mission runing.

Raven/CNR are not everything when it comes to mission running - any factions battleships can be used well. The advantage of a cruise missile boat is one can change damage types easily and long reach. The drawbacks is it lacks short range, its missiles can be shot down, plus it runs lower dps than more specialised ships. A torp raven/CNR lowers the range but adds a lot of dps, plus defender missiles dont tend to shot down the same as I heard the AI targets only 1 defender at a torp, while it needs 2 to destroy the torp.

If comparing a cruise CNR then need to compare to other faction ships like the new navy domi or geddon. A domi costing 50 mil vs a CNR costing 500+ is not really a comparison, and the domi tends to win in dps, plus insurance payout if one loses a ship. A domi has more flexibility in it can run dps, or it can tank up, it can even make a good support (low skills) salvage ship carrying up to 3286 mtrs of loot/salv while providing added dps support. The extra prices for the CNR for its decreased dps, I dont find the cruise CNR that great - but then I've looked at fitting likes of a domi properly, not comparing a domi in tank setup vs a cruise CNR. I could do similar, maybe we could quote the domi with sentry drones + 350mm rails, and the CNR we could quote its dps just from drones as we dont need to fit it properly like equiping weapons in its high slots ... Domi dps is beng quoted by cruise CNR fliers this way all the time!

The great thing about missile boats is that you don't have to worry so much about optimal range, velocity, tracking, blah blah blah.

You just sit there and fire your missiles and if they are hitting, they will hit for all your skills will hit for. Every once in a while you may need to pulse your shield booster, and thats about it.

Sure other BSs can run missions great, but with missiles its easier.

The CNR is a great mission ship.
It looks good, it feels good, will put out a decent amount of damage in any flavour you like too distances as far as you can target.
Im thinking about the Golem but is it really worth that extra expense?
Im trying to convince myself atm mabey somone can enlighten me.

Tengu.

No BC, BS, Drone, Torp, Cruise, or Gunnery training.

DPS, tank and range are on par with battleships and often exceed them.

Smaller, faster and more agile than BCs or BSs.

And it's one of the best looking ships in the game... with the right subs.

Then only con is the price. Just ninja salvage until you can afford it.

^^^ This is also the biggest problem with Caldari missile boats. In the Drake, or even more so in a Nighthawk, you just sit way out there ... F1, F2, F3 .... ZZZZzzzz. You don't worry about damamge. You don't worry about cap. It's hard to stay awake. Confused It requires no piloting skills at all to fly these ships.

Who cares if it requires no piloting skills to fly missile boats? there simple, effective and without a doubt the best all round class to fly. Missions arnt fun or a test of skill, how can it be when u fly the same ones over and over, why do people talk about enjoying flying a certain ship for missions? its simply earning isk, its just mining with more fireworks and moving asteriods! At the end of the day i take the view that whatevers fastest and easiest to use wins in missions. And its a Golem btw :)

With my drake:
Put on another house episode;
Warp to mission;
Lock, and put your finger on the F1 key;
Ocasionally look to the screen.

Warp back to the station and pick another mission and another house episode.

Everyone's gonna have a favorite, and they're all equally valued.

If you want a ship that you can run just about everything with without having to keep on training/re-buying stuff for, IMHO a T3 cruiser will fit that bill.

Ships like the Caldari Tengu, when properly fitted out, can do any mission from l2-l4 using just a t2 fit, and/or a deadspace booster. No gate restrictions, no worries.

Haven't flown any t3 other than a Tengu, in theoretical fittings it looks like they can do the same. The one downside is that you must make sure your primary weapons on them are the right ones for the enemies you face, as only the Gallente t3 gets a dronebay (and a smallish one: 25m3). For the Tengu, I find that a set of assault launchers/set of heavy launchers does the job quite well.

As a plus, all the t3 skills are 1x training save for the racial Strategic Cruiser, which is a 3x skill - so you can be in one quickly.

Disadvantage of T3 is lack of weapon selection and only med sized vs large on a battleship. If load drone bay then get some drone space, but without it you may have nothing to take out interceptors. Bigger than interceptors, not a problem.

Tengu has one drone sub having 25 mtr drone capacity - basicaly not much choice but this to run anything where may have interceptors.

Legion has one drone sub, so again not much choice. 50 mtr bandwidth vs the tengu 25 so can run med drones in support. Legion is most limited in its drone selection has no non-drone dps boost.

Proteus has 2 subs with drone ability, 25 bandwidth and a 75 bandwidth so bit more flexibility in that run 1 of or both. Ishtar can run 5x sentry drones vs max on proteus is 4 with max bandwidth of 100.

Loki has 2 offensive subs with drones, either 25 mtr or 40 mtr but can't run both.

If the T3 is runing support, can be very nice support ship. Active tanking can have its moments if getting cap drain. I've had my legion sucked dry and was lucky had drones fitted as without I had no cap to fire weapons, let alone run the ab or rep'rs. Bloods can do that to you in some instances. Speed tanking while no ab and while webbed while the drones cleared the interceptors scramming, then the webbers before finally getting back up to 200+ speed to reduce damage was ... interesting. It was a low sec exploration site with bloods ie not a lvl 4 mission, but blockade with bloods provides heavy cap drain also, new frontiers 2/7 & 5/7 (lvl 3's) also do. I like my legion for its 40km tractors pulling stuff in at 1000 m/sec. Gives me marauder cleanup ability with just cruiser skills. In mission support setup for gated missions I run tractors and salv in highs and just send the drones to help while tractoring and salvaging. With fairly low skils, can still turn over 10-12k lp/hour. Blockade and likes I still do much better to use likes of my navy apoc which can tank 2 full waves while stationary (something my legion cannot match). The 40km range to tractor makes much quicker work of looting and salvaging.

Well as stated before all ships have pros and cons. I'm going to base my answer on your character being an isk producing avatar. The Dominix is a great battleship over all others for one reason as an isk producer, AFK. You put on can use 2 active plates that are based on each mission and grab argo with one gun. You then let out 5 heavy drones and go afk. Come back and salvage/tractor with your other high slots. It will not be the fastest but it will be the most isk for the least work. So as a isk maker since you can have it killing while you do any thing else the dominix is the ship of choice for isk alt.

The Dominix is a nice mission boat, especially if you train up the sentry drone skills! A cruise-CNR is also quite a capable mission boat, right up until you can use torpedoes properly at which point a Golem is useful for battleship-heavy missions.

lol another one of this post.

Simple fact every BS is capable of runing every level 4 mission if you train the right skills and learn how to fit your tank and weapon systems.

Some do them faster then others some not as fast but they all do them. Alot point at the Missils boats others point at the drone boats and others point at gun boats.

I will say Missils are easyest with Drones right close behind them. Guns are harder to learn how to use. If your not clear on what you want I would say train a Phoon first and find out what you like best.

Edit: I also would not compare Projectials to other guns to much as they suck. But if you like them you will realy like Hybirds and love lazers.
