From days past:-

The original sec. map

and life before the 'superhighway' gates, which CCP said would be removed when the sever population got to a 'large enough' level.

Are we there yet?

EDIT: Cap ships and POS made PvP suck.

the superhighway gates were all the gates leading to yulai. from what i remember the gates linked luminaire, new caldari, heimatar?, and amarr to yulai. then they were pulled and jita became the market hub

I remember:

Cavalry Ravens
Cruise Missile Kestrels/Rifters
When Mining Laser II's used to cost like 20 million ISK
When getting ISK was tough
When you could pull 80m-100m in bounties from a LvL 4 Guristas/Angel Extravaganza
When Torpedos did full 450dmg to small ships <3
When we used to have awesome GMs and Devs and Aurora - CCP Failed hard when they stopped Aurora and the old skool devs/gms moved on.

I remember getting ganked by MoO on the passari gate in Liitura. (my precious condor) I was always disspaointed that CCP 'potred MoO into 0.0 just as we were gettin orgaized to take them down.

Edit: adding the wierd second 'i' in Litiura.

aaahh there was the time when ccp opened up the drone regions. I was in frege back then and remember us taking space having to fly load after load of minerals and crap just to build a station. Freighters couldn't unload at a pos so this was the only way you could get minerals out there, aside from carrier jumping which doesn't go well when u need that much tritanium.

The time when I undocked in a caracal next to 3 privateer intys and they all ran Laughing then warped to a different station with a privateer in a munnin outside who docked up Laughing all the while I had my cargo hold full to the max with zydrine I'd gotten from the drone regions Twisted Evil

Oh yeah and the massive battle we once had whent on for literally hours. 30 support + 4 carriers vs 50 support (us) they managed to kill most of our support while we killed all of theirs but couldn't kill the carriers till our massive battleship reinforcement gang arrived. Took soooo fricken long to take down their spider tank. Through the whole thing I managed to survive in a little basilisk saving god knows how many of our ships in that battle and being nearly killed by a carrier twice.... long time ago before logistics where massively buffed and where pretty uncommon in battle.

I remember when everything was shield tanked, even Amarr, back before CPRs were changed. You had a booster in your mids (plus whatever) and all CPRs in the lows. Highs tended to have missile launchers with cruises, no matter the type.

Here's a few:

- Flying through 0.0 with a friend in shuttles, and laughing at the intensely paranoid locals.

- While messing around with probing me and said friend somehow ended up inside a sun, leading to a graphics bug that made everything multicoloured and psychedelic.

- Being chased around N0L in an omen by 13 BoB pilots during the ASCN invasion.

- While on a trial account I killed a rat in 0.6 space. It dropped an implant which sold for 120 mill.

- Watching my Geddon pull 360s midwarp and arriving at random angles.

- The joys of empire warsdecs.

Good times.

EVE has become too predictable to be funny. EVE was a lot better when everything was unknown. Blame forums, killmails and excel spreadsheets. Smile

Dual AB/MWD ruptures and gankageddon was awesome! SA vs. CA, the best war ever.

i remember in my 'noob' time of 10mil sp, i was in a fleet battle in my Ferox.
enemy fleet engaged, i activated my guns. but accidently also activated that cyno. which scared off the enemy for a minute. haha

fun times.

btw, does anyone have a screenshot of that sign that was near gates? 'caution, watch out for the sign'
i haven't seen that one for ages.

edit, found it!

I remember beeing on one of the final days of the 14 day trial... mining in 0.4.
Got killed by a player in a thorax (i think..) losing my "expensive" gear. Decided this game was no fun and i would never play it again.... Rolling Eyes

I remember the first time I was canflipped. It was a guy in a Punisher that did it. I had my alt in his brand new (uninsured since I did not have the money to do it) Caracal sitting right next to the can. I took a peek at the pesky little ship. HA! He is much smaller than me. My heart was pumping rapidly. I targeted him and opened up. *WHAMMO* He instantly webbed and scrammed me. Then the battle started. I got the shield off him real fast, but I could not break his tank. My cap went down and down. Since I thought you would die with your ship I then ejected and warped away... I actually think that would be more fun, to have a nice big eject button pop up when you get into the lower portions of hull and an alarm braying "EJECT! EJECT! EJECT!" If you dont then your pod goes poof with the ship.

I then convoed him and thanked him for a fun fight. As with most people in eve if you are nice to them they are nice to you he actually helped me fit my first PvP Merlin. Two days later I was canflipped by a Itty III. I went back to station and got my Merlin and went back. He came back once more and yet again I opened up on him. He actually had a gun on the itty but he never hit me once. My loss... about 1m... his loss... about 10M... for some reason he came back in a Myrm to bash my Merlin so I suddenly remembered a pressing engagement I had in the nearby station :D I was high on adrenaline the rest of the evening :p

Me and a friend had just gotten our Cruiser skills and we had just gotten the medium gun skill (dont remember which type of gun since it was a now dead character). We got a L1 mission. I carried one missile launcher and the rest was medium guns. My friend had nothing but medium guns. The mission was against drones I believe, they were circling us real fast and the only thing hitting was that missile launcher. When my friend decided to withdraw he was to far gone so his ship got blown up before he could warp off :D

Starting out with about 100k skillpoints... only one of the choices gave you like twice that since you got gunnery 5 for free.

When me and a friend decided to try piracy - despite it being banned in our corp. Went off to lowsec in a couple of frigates and popped an industrial, then ran for the hills.
Unfortunately we were blissfully unaware that CEOs can see kills and after he logged on had him laughing at us and posting the killmail in corpchat.

I remember CCP giving all players an isk reward as compensation for the rollback they had to perform..... those 250k (or how much it was) was really a fortune back then...

i seem to remember a few months in, joining a 0.0 corp..

zipping around, I found a domination rat on a gate - so i said on ts 'oh hey guys. What does it mean when its called domination xyz?' ... They were all 'wtf bro, where' 'on the gate here...'

One of my corpmates came by with a raven and blew it up for me (silly noob i was flying aruond in my arbitrator >.> ). I promptly looked through the can it left behind.. Finding nothing but some silly shield mods. I took em back to station and threw them in the corp hangar, having no personal use for them

Later that day, someone on ts was like 'WTF who put this domination XL shield booster in the corp hangar?!' Naturally, i didnt realize it was me..

Yep good memories. Once i figured out what domination mods actually meant.. needless to say, im probably not going to forget that for another while to come.

I sorta miss the hilarity of unbalanced ships back in the day...specifically the Gankgeddon and Cav Raven.

Also miss the old system that was not GtG travel. When you entered a system, it randomly placed you somewhere in it (usually around a planet)...but people complained since it was breaking up their fleets.

Miss the old way ECM worked.

Finally made it to the Eve System, and found a bunch of trash...that was sort of fitting.

I bought 3 copies of the Minmatar Frigate skill book. I was already specced to L1, so the first book would train me to L2 and then thought it got "used up", so I needed the the second book to get to L3 and then use the third to train up to L4. Embarassed

I was back within a couple of months with a oadu account though...

I also remember ghost training a skill on this character that took 64 days, I had no learning skills, and I believe it was astrogeology V Embarassed

i remember safe spots being almost impossible to find. and leaving all ships in them..

1 mil isk was worth billions (or it seemed to as it took so long to get)

i wanted to get into the pirating and moo used to camp that gate down to 0.0.. i ask if i could join and they said if i beat one of thier players i could join we were both frigs id never done much pvp and lost but it was close :( pvp has always been the only thing i do in eve since then. ( i think it was lord zap i faught) i joined MAFIA shortly after and we became the most notorious pirate corp in eve, and it was confirmed in the very first e-on mag.

good times!!

edit: almost forgot.. the feeling of pure adrenaline rushing through my viens making me shake uncontrollably as i faught in pvp... doesnt happen anymore :( but i still love killing people mwahahaa

2nd edit: oh noes my flogging horse has been forum *****d :(

Collecting loot in my Mammoth for a member of Mo0 Corp while he chained Caldari Navy/Concord ships outside one of the stations in Nonni. After about 2 hours he got bored, having killed about 200 Navy/Concord ships. This was back before Concord became uber of course.
