I've been playing eve for a couple of months and went straight for a bomber, aqquiring a decent base of electronic and missile skills in the process.
After flying around high and lo-sec I have decided that they aren't for me, at least not yet anyway. I need something that can take more of a beating and still provide my corp with some firepower, in times of war and POS bashing.

I'd really appreciate any help you can offer in terms of advising what BS to train towards. I have poor dron skills so I've ruled out Gallente, and whilst the Raven seems like an obvious choice I don't want to fly something that looks like the proverbial cat dragged it in. No offence to die-hard Raven fans.

Aside from that I'm pretty indifferent to race. Something that can fire torps whilst allowing me to explore other skills would be great; even better if it can fit a decent tank. Bad idea all together? Lasers ftw? All opinions welcome.

Thanks to constructive replies.

My advice is to train drones. A BS without drones is laughably easy to take out.

Well, the typhoon does look attractive. For some (probably wrong ) reason I see it getting in close with neuts and torps. I like the look of its flexibility.

Nuets or remote reps, or auto cannons. Fly it with a local tank, or with an armour buffer.

Phoons are awesome.

Hmm, I always get an uneasy feeling about flavour of the month. Seems like the sensible thing to do is try and predict what's next on the buff listWink

So far Typhoon is winning the race.

I'm dreaming of the day when I will be man enough to fly the typhoon right. But it is a mighty hard machine to control. I've only got about 30 million skillpoints, so I estimate I'm about halfway there.

The phoon is really versatile and the neut/torp setups look mean so id go with that.

At this rate, I'll need a few more years to compete with you JoeShocked

After distracting myself at work all day thinking about pixellated spaceships, maybe I should spend more time with cruisers. Options are much more open with them, plus they are much easier on the wallet should I inevitably lose one.

Have been looking into the Maller; Omen seems like a small mini-game in itself when fittings are concerned. Have also heard good things about the rupture although the somewhat ubiquitous Caracal would probably suit my current skills more. Decisions, decisions...

Agree with Louis here. Train up drone skills regardless of what BS you decide to pick.

You don't fly a BS in general PVP without drones, period, or you will die.

I have laughable drone skills (250K SP or so in them). The only time I fly BS is when I'm ganking a missionrunner solo (in which case my target is a PVE-fit battleship who will die horribly regardless of drones). Other than that, I never fly them...certainly not when my "corp needs firepower" or for POS bashes (Unless this is a POS bash with virtually 0 chance of the enemy showing up to fight back).

If you don't mind me asking Kahega, what do you fly? With low drone skills I'm assuming you're pretty tonk in other areas. Have you had much more success with smaller ships?

I'm assuming he's an alt (47 kills) but it looks like he flys frigates. Manticore/Wolf. They don't have drone bays.

Depending on how much you have invested in missiles, you could go towards a phoon. keep in mind it takes a *really* long time to fly one properly. Beyond that a Raven is your best bet.

The Rokh is a beautiful ship and I would glady fly one, however at nearly three times the expense of a Typhoon it must be pretty special to justify its price.

I agree though that my path so far into skills would transfer that bit easier. All told (just out of curiosity), easier to fly than, say, the Tempest?

i have 9 and a hlaf-ish million SP and my lvl 4 running phoon is loads of fun

800mm meta 4 ACs
crusie launchers
T2 drones
tank that beats my abaddon with amarr BS at lvl 4 (when the abby is running one rep)
T2 100MN AB = ~400m/s

ya, even tho my large proj and min BS skills are both at one its tons of fun....and ive only peaked under the lid of the cosmic trash can XD

as for PVP how bout any of the other tier 1 BSes?
drone-neuting-RRing domi?
nuet-laser geddon?
ECM scorp?

To be honest I'm open to all suggestions. The lower end BS's look great as to their relatively low cost and continued viability.

At the end of the day, I'm still young enough for a huge spectrum of options to remain open. A Scorpion looks like a great ship to fly and I can imagine it being a valuable asset to any gang. The idea of slightly unconventional warfare is mightily appealing.

I'm not stupid; I know rushing into a BS is a recipe for disaster. However, linking my currently gained skills to to something larger than a frigate hull is where I'm looking.

I'm pretty overwhelmed with the response so far, but I suppose this is a question all new pilots will consider in their beginning months.

I'm also aware that many of the views on this thread might come from the slightly misleading title which could initially suggest that bombers are superior to Battleships!

Thanks again all. Any other off the wall ideas are still welcome; would be great to hear from ex-bomber pilots too about their (perhaps slanted) use on BS's due to the skills they've already invested in.
