I wonder how hard it would be to code it, but an ingame TV would be a rather nice addon for the event. It shouldn't broadcast video stream, but only the shiptypes, coordinates, and stuff, so that all the visuals are rendered at the watching client. to reduce lag, it could be only activated when docked, and while it's active, several other functions (maybe all other) would be disabled. For more lag reduction the priority of the cam broadcasts could be set (so that it doesn't ruin nor the match nor the recordings).

This could be digital TV as it was meant to be. All the cameras would broadcast their position and POV, while the arena would broadcast the actual happening, while the one who watches would be able to freely change in between the cameras to look at whatever the viewer wants to look at.

IMO this mod wasn't that hard to add to the game, and would give a lot of fun for the people interested in the AT. It's just a rough estimate from my side, but I think it's less data to move than browsing the market at a medium market hub.

probably the right place for this post is assembly hall...

edit: been thinking it further a bit. as far as i suspect the tournament (system) runs on a dedicated (separate) HW part of the server cluster. if so, it only has to broadcast a single stream of data of the ships, and the cams, while all other parts of the cluster can figure it out how to give it to the clients interested... i think 1 stream of max 20 ships, and a bunch of camera positions wouldn't at all ruin the game (AT) itself... :)

this could also make a place for more public sporting events, and possibly a new industry to grow out of this (like gambling, and/or advertising industry)...

I mean, if it's done for the AT, it could be rented out the whole year for corps/individuals to let them use for their purpose (whatever it is) or profit (however it is made).

so what you say?

just 1 bump for this thread...

i wasn't aware it was such a lousy idea, but perhaps someone will answer: yes it is! :D

I'm pretty sure the only broadcasting of the tourneys these days is on YouTube. That's not exactly suited to what you had in mind. It's an interesting idea, but I expect it to be quite a lot of work, and I'm not sure the end result would be a big improvement over just having someone fraps it.

except the fact that it is

1. realtime and live
2. interactive

which is quite an improvement in my eyes.

i agree that these days the only option is youtube, but for the next AT?

i'm not a programmer, that's true, but the more i think about this, the more i think it's not that hard to implement. the client already contains almost everything for it... the rendering engine, the ships' outlook data, and also the window that's capable of showing a new "layer" of 3d visuals (that is "look at" in show info).

but -for the devs' luck- it seems, that there's simply no need for it... :D

/me like this.

I posted something similar in the alliance tourney section... Linky

An in game viewer for this sort of thing could have sooo many uses (see above link) and could potentially save CCP money!
