Okay, I'm probably not the only one feeling like this, but DUST 514 is starting to really scare me. I mean, we're introducing a BF2 style game into a LONG-TERM world (every move in our EVE Online World is thought through long and hard... well every successful move) and now we're opening the doors to kids who's mothers are trying to keep them busy ($15/month isn't a lot to keep Jimmy from swinging from the curtains again); who intern will treat this without regard for the space they're in.
So I thought, there's gotta be some balancing then right? Like maybe Orbital Bombardment by Pod Pilots that own the systems? Or carriers being able to tank "CTF points" by sending more troops down to the surface. Wouldn't it suck to suddenly see your space has changed into the hands of others?
CCP has to have thought of the implications of releasing EVE into the console world. Shouldn't the mercs have to train to shoot better or use better weapons? Train to call air strikes? Train to provide medical aid?
I just feel that you can't mix a "drop in and shoot" sorta game with a "320 days for my Neglfar" sorta game. I hope that they do go through with it - to add some fun for us now looking for consoles, BUT with good balancing (orbital tanking, bombing, sniping etc)
Or, we are doomed to be at the will of small frustrated teens... WoW! :P
You're naive at best and a blind-whiner at worst by thinking everyone who plays console fps is a 15 year old fickle teen who will never have any interest in actually playing DUST as it was meant to be played.
That's a very narrow short sighted assumption.
Secondly, This isn't going to be BF. DUST players won't aimlessly wander from planet to planet shooting anything that looks shiny, stealing all the vehicles and so on. It's an MMO, DUST players will have to fight to earn money to buy things, and as always with CCP the very LEAST you can expect is that there will be a strong team-play element. They're going to have their own corps and alliances and that much is known now.
That being said, do you REALLY think that there will be no organization? In order to advance in the game you HAVE to make money. To make the most money you'll likely want offers from Eve alliances to defend/attack planets. There will be some kind of skill set as well, something like character development for an MMO meaning players can get better stats somehow, how has not been released.
So, what happens in DUST to the fickle griefing n00b teen who doesn't care is the same thing that'll happen in eve. He will get owned over and over, post to the forums for awhile about how much CCP sucks, then he'll emo rage quit and that will be the end of it.
