514 means this...

5 DUSTies fu*k 1 DUSTyland where 4 EVEies get fu*ked about

in other words 5 = 1 + 4 so a team of 5 vs other 5 if connection to nods (CCP modem hubs) doesn't get dropped leaving 5 vs 1 on the DUSTyland.

Posted - 2009.08.21 11:18:00 - [152]

It's easy, CCP will just choose the 5th thread on what DUST514 means and then select the 14th post as the official meaning.

GeneID 514 is ATP5E

This gene encodes a subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase. Mitochondrial ATP synthase catalyzes ATP synthesis, utilizing an electrochemical gradient of protons across the inner membrane during oxidative phosphorylation. ATP synthase is composed of two linked multi-subunit complexes: the soluble catalytic core, F1, and the membrane-spanning component, Fo, comprising the proton channel. The catalytic portion of mitochondrial ATP synthase consists of 5 different subunits (alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon) assembled with a stoichiometry of 3 alpha, 3 beta, and a single representative of the other 3. The proton channel consists of three main subunits (a, b, c). This gene encodes the epsilon subunit of the catalytic core. Two pseudogenes of this gene are located on chromosomes 4 and 13. I'm starting to think that the number 514 is the number of maps (or districts) that will be available for battle. Since each merc. team will be directed to a specific district on a planet, I think there may be 514 different districts (maps) and planets will be constructed with a number of these maps, but the number will vary depending on the size of the planet.

In the video you can clearly see it's taking place on Intaki V not a station... a planet.

Just my 2 cents but I believe DUST 514 means Dust = The begining. 514 = 5 = May, 1 = First, 4 = 2004 Meaning they startted this project 1 year after Eve went live May 6 2003. Just my 2 cents

Nope. They said they've been working on the project for 3 years...

number of players per "match"?
256=Team one
256=Team two
1=Commander of team one (RTS view)
1=Commander of team two (RTS view)

Epic win by CCP if this is correct, epic win for technology if this is possible.

The number of stupid answers to that question this thread got divided by 100000.

The number of times the devs actually looked for a good answer before they gave up.

The number of Goons it takes to blow up an interceptor.

The first three digits of that hot chick's phone number.

The average number of people browsing eve-o forums at any given time.

The number of minmatar it takes to screw in an amarrian lightbulb.

The number of galentee it takes to win a single battle in FW.

The number of messages, on average, RLM isk sellers send out every minute on tranquility.

The number of times Hilmar Petturson had to pee in the last year.

The number of parties CCP is planning after DUST goes uber and surpasses halo, doom, and pong in all time popularity and revenue. Good thing is that we're all invited.

The number of euros CCP was worth after Iceland's economic collapse. :-(

Twice the number of responses the OP read before giving up hope on a reasonable answer.

The answer to many math equations.

The answer to life, existence, and everything. wait...

The number in which your clone number and your brain cell count are equal. IE it's your 514th clone you now have 514 brain cells left.

The number of people who bought american cars in the cash for clunkers program.

The number of jove abductions the typical New Eden citizen is subjected to. (How else did they get all that crazy technology)

The number, in trillions, McDonald's has served in New Eden.

That's about it...

The Prophecy of Macaper

the sixth is described as “what was many now becomes one when one becomes four”; the seventh is mentioned above.

CCP have followed the prophecy before, so wouldn't exactly be a surprise if this is the one.

Well in Cantonese, when you slur 888, it resembles words that imply great wealth

When you slur 514 in Cantonese, although not too correct, you get something that resembles: No once dead, or Hard to Die

and since the game was developed in CCP Shanghai, mebbe thats where it comes from? Cool

DUST has to do with "InDUSTry" and 514 is the launch code for all nuclear weapons in the world.

Not sure if someone mentioned this yet, but my guess is that 514 is 5:14 in the revelation.

"And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever."

Not only is it the final verse of the fith chapter, but the four beasts could easily refer to the four races.

Also the ones that lives forever are the capsuleers, which are indeed worshipped among the people of EVE.

Not sure if this is the right one, but considering the names of patches in the past, it has to be biblical is some way, and I am convinced that your mathimatical ideas are way off.

Isaiah 5:14 (New International Version)

"Therefore the grave enlarges its appetite
and opens its mouth without limit;
into it will descend their nobles and masses
with all their brawlers and revelers."

Kinda fitting for an insta-spawn meat-grinding FPS.
