since we are going towards dedicated purpouse ships.....

remove the ability to fit mining lasers on anything but dedicated mining ships.

it is called battleship not mining ship.

Why? Did Darth forget to take his mining lasers of his apoc when you went hunting.

Why does this even matter to you are your enemies crushing you with their huge wallets?

why not?

we got logistics cruisers, interceptor frigates, assault frigates and destroyers and battlecruisers coming with shiva so why not make a dedicated mining ship class with 3 different sizes of ships for it.
and remove the option to use mining lasers on combat ships wich are to be used for combat not mining.

that means 3 more skills for people to train and new ships to buy.
and it means that people will have to work together to defend mining ops with a bigger diversity of ships taking part.
there shouldnt be a one ship do all thing.
battleships for battle not for mining and so on.

naah we are not allowed within 500meters of his veldspar dethstar.

and its depressing to see hardcore pirates with miner2's chugging along the spacelanes.

actually, think about it for a sec
its not a dumb idea though, specialized mining ships wich only can mine basically and his escort in combat ships standing guard and defending the miners since they cant do it at all then.
it would involve more people to work together more even when mining.

while your idea kind of makes sense, if you really think about it, it doesn't.

I buy an Apoc from a dealer. it's a hull. what I do with it from that point on is my choice

in real life (which I know we all hate these examples) you can buy retired World War 2 aircraft carriers for personal use. so it's not to far streched :)

it's a ship with a roll, combat, but it's still just a hull that I can re-arrange to my desire

Hmmm, so let me think about this. You want mining barges, which have the defensive capabilities of a large frigate, and the agility of a heavilly sedated elephant to be the only ships capable of mining ?

What a great idea ! May I suggest that CCP allows you to be the first to test these, preferably half way between an arkanor 'roid and a sign saying 'faction bs's please spawn here'. I think that would be the best place for you really.

Oh, and there is a tiny little matter of cruisers with mining bonuses. You hadn't forgotten them, had you ?

atm there is a shortage of minerals with prices going thru the roof, lets remove most of the ships that are used for mining. That should fix things. Rolling Eyes

If you had dedicated mining ships, with no other ship capable of mining, would that mean that every single new player would start in the smallest mining barge?

As this is the main way of making isk when you first start

actualy idea is not bad. and no Loud Bob, mining is not the only way to make money in the begining. Last time I mined for in tutorial missions. (4 months in the game or so)

While Weirda see your point, really don't think that we should be limiting people's playstyles. If that what they want to do in a Battleship - fine, they paid for it.

i dont se it as limiting but more like specializing.

all n00bies get the basic frig right, that one should be able to mine.
on top of that there should be 1 frigate sized mining specialized ship and 1 cruiser and battleship sized ones also.

it would make people actually have to work together more.
if the miners had to employ or take their friends with them when they go mine for security reasons.

pirates would get a bigger target to chase and a harder target since the miners would ahve escort.

as for the ore shortage there isnt one.
if you check the market there is a shedload of ore on there but all who put their ore on market puts it a tad higher then the other guys there so it inflates and inflates and inflates.
sooner or later that bubble will burst and ore prices come back down.

and i do not mine, well i mine with mega pulses and tachs on pirat indys.
lots of minerals and stuff in those.

Yes, and I'm sure that people who arent in a corp would be real happy then, I mean I bet they would just SCREAM with enthusiasm.Rolling Eyes
If it were the start of the game it might be a bit different, but its been out too long to do something like this IMO.

It's always the people constantly crying for nerfs (which is exactly what your idea is) that end up ruining MMO's in the long run.

Shame on you.

Why do other ships need to have a option removed. If mining barges are good enough, that is what miners will use. Don't have to nerf anything at all. And if a solo miner is better of with regards too safety using a apoc or similair then fine, let em, it's his 100mil boat.

Wait a sec. We have major player alliances (without game support), fleet operations, mining operations, NPC hunting operations, construction operations, etc. etc. etc. and you're saying people need to be forced to work together more?

What do you want? Communes?

Come to think of it, we've already got corps like that in the game.

I think we have more than enough incentive to band together, as is. Piling any more on top of that would be essentially locking lone wolf players out of the game. That doesn't benefit anyone.

Well, if CCP went ahead with that idea, then there would be a lot of miners out there asking for transferring of skill points from current "mining bship" to the mining barges.

Besides, according to the info that we have about said barges, they'll have frigate shield/armor/sturcture... and in low sec space, that's not a good idea to have.. better off in an Apoc with heavy shields/armor/structure compared to said barges. I really don't understand why industrials and the upcomining barges have to have weak shields/armor etc. One would think that the obvious choice for pirates/hunters/griefers/etc would be the weak vessels which end up being the industrials.. Are manufacurers stupid thinking that the industrials would be hit AFTER its escort is done? Yes they are. They should be knowledgable enough to figure out that hey, lets beef up their shields/armor and resists..

You might say that is overpowered, but how is it really? All they're doing is transporting goods and nothing else (for the most part) or mining rocks... They don't even seem to have enough cap (indies anyways) to sustain "big" modules.. But I digress.
