Join the right channels (Rookie, help (english and your language), missioning, mining, etc) and actual be active there -> make friends.

Go to Rookie systems and HELP them with all kind of tips (or maybe just a simple T1/frig sometimes) and care about them for several days -> if they expirienc a GOOD first day, they come back.

Take a look at the locals and maybe risk a ship or two if somebody asks "need help with mission XY" - it might be a trick, it might be a real request.

If you are a mining-corp travel through some systems/belts and check for lonely miners and actual talk to them - they are the most skary players out there (we all know why). If you manage to get there trust, they might join and stay.

Thousends of forum posts don't do the job ONE real ingame help can do ;).

If you want more expirienced players (ak with more SP) you realy need to offer somethink bigger. WH, low- or 00-sec space or own poses with research labs.

Oh and forgot ... if you are a jung corp have a good timeshedule and goal.
Make clear, you PLAN to do XY in near/far future if all members are ready for it and the needed ISK are earned. Maybe use some step-stones like "able to build T1 ships/munition/fittings to replanish equip", "start first small tower in lowsec to learn from", "expand and setup largh tower", "rent some space in (not so dangures) 00", "try to maintance WH tower", ....
And plan them realistic! You can't get your own, not rented 00 within 3 month if your everage player has 3 mil SP and never saw 00 except for beeing baited. IMPOSIBLE!

Work out this plans very well to show, you KNOW what you want and how to reach the goal.

If somebody ask: "what can I expect, if I join your corp" you need one or more good answares ;).

tbh, A corp that offers services & is friendly (Good sense of humour) is what entices me (I.e. Jump Freighter / Carrier transportation of goods), of course if that is unavailable is most likely not a 0.0 corp anyways so I'm not interested =P

-Hang out with me, Cute SpyGirl
-Recruit miners, noobs, mission runners, aka Carebears
-Spam recruiting channel w/ your message-- it works!
-You need a public chat room that have a lot of people--contact me in game.

This is how I did it for Cute Alliance, I started by recruiting in other free to play MMORPGs, such as, Requiem, Rohan. While I am in those games, I talked about sea (space) stories of great space battles, loots & riches, and the wonderful world of ships building in EVE Online. I took them under my wing as a miner, mission runners etc.. I also recruited in MySpace, MMOs Forums, FaceBooks etc..

Things not to do... IMHO
-Don't be a Pirate.
-PvP corp is very hard for noob.
-Not all females are MEN--respect all pilots, even the yarr

Disband and join another corp to make it grow. Every other person thinks he's a unique snowflake and that he needs to be in charge of his own corp and that his unique snowflake corp will be better than everyone else and conquer the universe.

Of course, this collides nicely with everyone else who thinks the same thing and the whole game is filled with 5 man corps (CEO, his alts and one newbie who hasn't left yet) spamming the recruitment channels with "we're amazing, we have orca and do pvp ops and can access 0.0". Orca means the guy with 10 days skill training for orca doesn't log in anymore, pvp ops are losing undock games to empire wardecs, 0.0 access means: "we haven't done anything stupid enough to have providence set us red".

So, seriously. If you want to change this trend, be the first one to disband and join some other corp and help them grow instead.

Really pro tip: you get people with a common identity first, then you organize a corp.

Exactly how is hard to say. There are very easy ways NOT to recruit people though. Make sure you are not doing these fails depending on location.

0.0/deep lowsec: bad logistics. Non-capital pilots will have a hell of a time getting stuff out and local markets usually suck. Make it hard to move out and people will quit in frustration a week later (or still be tooling around in empire after a month).

Hi-sec: Turn down those dang tax rates. Unless you have pos/building services (and not just ammo, lol) or are building the capacity, its a surtax your members dont need to pay in npc for no benefit; the only reason people will ever put up with this is if you offer good pvp ops, and then you're in danger of losing them to a more dedicated and/or established pvp corp.

Anywhere: being the kind of corp which recruits with its one female member and half+ of chat is people attempting to flirt with said member.

edit: I say all of these from personal experience, unfortunately. Logistics one is the most lethal to a corp.

First off, I'd like to say this isnt a recruitment post, I have one of those in the appropriate forum. I'm asking for guidance from seasoned CEO's about recruitment, as I'm having a devil of a time. I offer decent things, for a small corp, but no one gives my ads the time of day. I've wallpapered the recruitment chat, I've paid for a recruitment ad in-game, I've maintained a post in the recruitment forum. Once in a blue moon I get a recruit who stays for a day or so before never logging in again.

Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong or could do better?

In my opinion.. what your corp need is this:

A few decent friends who shares your own goal, and, which will join this corporation for the benefit of alll. That is, you and your friends needs to think through who are going to be the CEO, who is going to be the directors? And if you are appointed CEO, what can those directors still do, even if they have reduced power? Remember, you are all together! Now, why bring friends? Because, when you are offline, some of your friends should hopefully be online. That way the corporation dont look dead, leadership is available and the new recruits have someone to chat with! Thats easy! Thats hard! Thats EVE corporations in a nutshell!

Sadly this is true. Having the girl recruit also helps.

Here's the joke one:

Start a website that contains humorous forums, get those people hooked by creating an environment where everyone builds off eachother's humorous posts about some subject.

Will start to snowball !

Now tell your members that you have this plan that is 'Wicked funny' to go play this silly game called 'Eve Online' where your objective is to play a 'sandbox' game your own way! How funny is that?

Serious stuff

You can only join the corp if you have been a member of the external website for 1 month at least and when you join eve, you are given a quick reach around and a hand job then sent off to your doom in your t1 fitted rifter!

Way hay, people will be dying from the laughter of seeing you in that!

Too funny, can't stop laughing at the comedy that is ensuing from people that failed to spot that eve being a sandbox makes this completely 'normal' and not 'special' or 'funny' at all really!!

But hey, its worked for one alliance, it should work for you too ;0
