well.....

Leaving out the actual rent you pay out of the "cons" seems like a strange choice. Last I heard shadow and solar were getting 100 mil per belt per month from renters. That's some isk.

i was also thinking of the prison inmate vs employee email that circulates. that makes it better to be in prison than be someone working.

when i wrote poor leaderships i was more thinking of irc/ed

i dont need to big up mt leadership, they know how i feel.

Moons is a tricky one for alliances. Unless you're one of the major powerhouses you won't get any where near the R64 moons, which is where the real money is at.

I'm a renter, but after being in 2 fail alliances full of chest beating morons at the leadership level we all kinda decided to try something different. We're not exactly the typical renter though, so I guess our experience is a little different then most. UAxDeath has always been fair, and very fun to be around (think Russian Mobster, and you'll understand). I'd say the only downside we've seen is not having full control over who we're Blue/Red too, but Legion has been making it fun lately.

TL;DR
If your alliance/corp isn't strong enough to control R64 moons, you should consider renting...

Granted, but if one choose to rent out say.. Estoria for a month would they get control over the R64's i think not.

This is a pretty good troll. "No excessive carebearing" and "sov warfare" are listed as negatives, and you claim every sov-holding corp/alliance has mandatory ops, 100% tax, and terrible leadership.

Or maybe Minor Threat is just awful.

The difference between paying taxes to your corporation and paying rent to a landlord is not very different.

I will layer my bias over yours and maybe we can see some balance.

renter

pros

no pos work
no running sov towers
no pos warfare
no mandatory ops, (unless your ceo makes you mine or something)
no politics
no worries, come and go as you please as long as you adhere to rules.
make isk as you like
0.0 access/station access

cons
elite eve makes fun of you for being a renter.
No POS. You do more than moon mining with POS.
Resource competion with other renters packed in like sardines to maximize rent
Mandatory refining at stations - the hidden rent
Plexing restrictions - usually GTFO

space holding alliance

pros

moon gold
rent gold

cons

pos warfare
pos maintenance
cta ops
mandatory ops
100% tax ops - Only ones I have been in were when I was a renter
no excessive care bearing
terrible leaderships - If you continue to hold space, you can hardly rate your leadership as terrible.
18 hour days - Come on...most people don't play this long and you know it. See those 2000 man alliances? you might have 200 on at any given time and a handful more if something interesting is going on.

I have been both a renter and a general member of a sov holding alliance. My conclusion is that the game is more interesting in a sov alliance. No need to try and rationalize which is better. It ultimatly comes down to what the individual likes.

You missed my favorite option:

independant nomadic 0.0 corp

pros

no pos work
no running sov towers
no pos warfare
no politics
freedom to see the entire galaxy
make isk as you like
low overhead, high profit
no mining
making fun of renters

cons

very limited to no station access
constantly answering questions like "What are you doing in this system?" from space-holders and renters
limited to one ship at a time (see station access)
occasionally camped in by blob-perior sized fleets
