I am looking to buy an MacBook Pro for general use i.e. internet, text documents, watching movies etc when i'm on the move.

I am wondering how well it would run EvE, is the Apple client stable? I will mainly be using it for my alt when i'm at home, so poping up cynos, salvaging missions and general hauling etc.

Would this MacBook Pro be good enough? http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/002750

I have never used a mac before, but i'm sick of windows, so any pointers would be nice.

Cheers
Karl

I run EVE on a Mac Mini on medium settings @ 1680x1050 and get 25-45 FPS depending on... err stuff.

Specifications:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
Graphics: nVidia GeForce 9400M 128 MB
Memory: 1 GB DDR 1037 MHz

This is the low-spec/cheapest Mini so I think you'll be fine with a MacBook Pro...

I play on an iMac at work, and a PC at home. The iMac works fine (for this and other apps.) The only issue is that Apple products are 90% 'blackbox' products (or, as they like to say: 'maintenance-free.') That is, when they break, the solution is to buy a new one.

I've never had a problem with the iMac, but I went through 2 iPhones before I gave up on that product (could only take so many shrugs from the 'genius' at the Apple store).

And the Mac is much more pretty than the PC.

Edit: the other issue is the lack of 3d party apps that you can run on the Apple. Some work. Some are web-based and 'work.' But some of the better ones do not work at all.

I use my Macbook Pro for the same things you mention. It definitely performs well enough for everything I've thrown at it - have done some video effect and audio work on it as well.

I run windows on my main rig but for a laptop I wanted something utterly hassle free for everyday use. Having unix heritage is a great plus for me as well for connectivity to work.

The Eve client is much better nowadays and it performs well enough, though I only use it for relaxed play. I haven't had a crash in quite a while now.

The one thing I will say is mine runs ball-burning hot whenever the GFX card is in use, and the fans make quite a racket when it's all going. The model you link is newer than mine (I have the 8800 card) so my bet is it'll run even faster. :)

Picked it up on the way back from work last night... Couldn't stop smiling all night. Amazingly fast, opens everything instantly, no more waiting around!! Runs eve with every graphic item turned on, and settings on high at around 30-40 fps. Got the microsoft office for mac for it. Going to start using it to through together videos etc...

Still have my desktop pc which runs vista (now going to my my secondary computer as the mac beats it at everything). I can use this to run current applications I have that only work with windows.

Thanks for the input :p
