I am new to missions and have spent nearly my entire Eve experience mining. Now I am in a Domi and I decided to start doing some missions for some fun and it seems I can only do L1 missions which is no big deal, but I keep getting these missions where I can only do the mission in a frigate because of the warp gate Confused Is there a way around this? I keep having to drop the mission and I lose points with them (meaning I can't get high enough for L2 or L3 missions)

I am also wondering who I should do missions for? I am doing them now for the Caldari Navy (does it matter?)

Yes, get a frigate or some other ship that fits through the gate...

hey hey

getting into the biggest ship asap and running out to do missions isnt the smartest idea in new eden tbh. however, whats stopping you from using a frigate ? you have the skill trained as you needed it for the domi.

afaik there is no way around the mission gate and if you get a mission thats restricted you have no choice but to use the restricted size. but its a good thing as your on a steep learning curve and frigate restrictions will minimise your losses.

you should train up your social skills as that will push you up the agent ladder faster. social+connections skills to 3/4 will give you a quick boost.

you need to progress up the ladder and doing a few level 1's is a must do. it only takes a few L1 missions to get access to the crapiest level 2 agent.

you should never decline the mission under the 4hr timer as you get the standings hit and it just creates a further problem and do everythign possible to not fail the mission once accepted as this ganks your standings horrifically.

you dont need to live with 1 agent and you can spread out and work from an agent pool. that way you can work around the 4hr refusal timer better.

it doesnt make that much difference in which agent you choose to work for but remember that all choices made today will influence the future. caldari (faction) is a good choice because of the high number of L4 high sec agents. caldari have guristas as their main pirate enemy and they jam like mr kipling. try to do the epic arc agent and try a flavor of the whole mission system as well as experience all empires.

For level 1 missions you really should stick to a frig. As you already know most of the gates limit what ship can go in. Once you are up to level 2 missions, you will be able to use any ship you like. Now as for who to mission for, that is up to you. Whoever you pick, look at their level 4 agents and where they are. Find the best one within the region you wish to live.

Since you've got the skills, try for a Destroyer to make L1's go quicker than a Frigate. You've got to do the standing grind to get into higher level missions. You could fleet with a buddy doing L4's to get your corp standing bumped up much faster.

Good answers so far! Here are a few more tricks and tips:
1) Try to avoid missions against other empires. You take standing hits with the corp you fly against. Faction standing will eventually go down as well vs the two other empires you are flying against if you do important missions.
1.5) Cosmos missions are also a good idea. Every one of them are important missions. I've read you can get near to 8 or 9 if you do a whole week of Cosmos. Read up on them before you try. Faction standings override corp standings if they are higher.
2) You can power lvl your standings by being in a gang with a lvl 4 or 5 mission runner. When the mission is complete ask the runner to split rewards, you get half the cash and half the standings increase!
3) Go buy a character that can fly carriers, then assign 5 fighters to your frig. Has to be in low-sec though. More dangerous, pirates, probers ect. Upside is that rewards are doubled, more isk, LP, and standings increase.

Nah, this isn't true. I've had lvl 3's that limit me to a battlecruiser.

LVL1 = frigclass
LVL2 = destroyerclass
LVL3 = Battlecruiserclass
LVL4 = Battleshipclass

in lvl1 missions you mostly can't pass the warpgate if your in a ship above frigclass etc etc etc.

I learned this lesson the hard way. I was happily running Gallente missions and blasting Amarr and Caldari ships when the mission called for it. I never left Gallente space so didn't worry about faction standing. I woke up one day when I wanted to change corps to one based in Caldari space and my new CEO pointed out that I was SOS if I ventured into Caldari space since my Caldari standing was -5.6!

I quickly trained Diplo to 5, moved to Khanid and ran L1s in an Ishkur with Hob IIs until the cows came home. I finally got my Caldari standings up to -1.85 so I can run L4s with the boyz and my Amarr are now up to -2.3 or so. They'll improve with time.

Now I just have to be sure I dont' wreck my Gallente standing by doing Caldari missions against the Federation.
