I am currently using passive shield resistance modules and was looking over the skills such as thermal shield compensation etc. If I am reading the skill right training it to level IV and using a tech 2 passive module or a republic fleet will yield a resistance of 57,5%. An active tech 2 will only get you a max of 55% since the compensation skills seem to indicate that you only get an extra % if the module is inactive.

Am I missing something here? If not, why would you even use an active hardener aside from maybe an all-damage one or due to low skills?

The skill bonus is a multiplier, not an addition

eg: passive base 30%, with skill level 4 (20%) = 30 x 1.2 = 36% resistance.

I see I was missing something then. Still makes a tech 2 or republic fleet give you a nice 45%.
