I mine into a can but I use the "outside of grid" trick to prevent ore theft. It means I lose time warping to and back but it's that or losing ore to thieves.

The other day one of them came, saw I had no can and stole from a wreck I wasn't going to loot anyway and sat there waiting for me to attack for a good two minutes. It's nice to waste can flippers time and give them nothing Smile.

Hasn't anyone ever thought of simply mining in a less crowded system? The roids are much better and nobody ever, ever bothers you. I jetcan mine all the time and have never once been can-flipped. I assumed people that mine in crowded systems actually want can-flippers just to spice up their otherwise boring mining ops.
This is what I always tell the newbies in the newbie corps who complain about someone stealing their ore. When I ask where they are mining, it is always in a crowded system.

There is a system that I visit from time to time for some quiet mining when I'm not particularly busy with work (working from home has advantages!). I have had five, sometimes six jet cans full of ore around me before I've bothered pulling it all in. Never had an issue.

Location matters. Get out of those crowded hubs, go find a quiet, out of the way system, and you won't need to resort these kinds of weird tricks.

And, to be honest, if you're going to spend the time to warp off somewhere... Might as well just go all the way to the station. You'll have to make a bunch of trips from the can to the station anyways...

In High Security, a Hulk with two Expanded Cargoholds II can hold 13005 m3 without giant secure containers. That accounts for half a can, IIRC.

Going back and forth to a station like that is not as big as a dent in your ISK/hour as having a good can stolen, I think.

Depends on how much was in the can when it was stolen. And, for the record, this is much quicker than warping to the station, docking at the station, undocking and warping back to the belt.

Wouldn't it just be simpler to open the "bookmark" and wait until you were 3-5k away from your warp closing and...clicking it. No need for the silly back and forth bit.

Depends on your personal circumstances.

If you, like me, don't run multiple accounts and do not wish to train as a dedicated hauler at the moment, going back and forth is the way to go.

Besides, cans DO attract flippers and more "casual" thief types. If you haul back and forth your half can each time, only serious gankers that are after a killmail are the problem.

I didnt know you could do that when I wrote this. I'll edit it

jetcan mining in empire - don't do it
Empire is so chock full of 0.0 failbears and low sec wash outs grumbling they got their hides handed to them, they come to 0.0 to hassle non pvp players till they get their replacement ********* from the medical facility.

And they are in abundance. Talking to them in private or local only fuels their 12 year old games.

Joining a corp in empire doesn't help much more.

Just fit a cargo expander and go back and forth. It doesn't take that long, and you have no hassles to deal with.

hahaha seems some poor guy got robbed over and over and over

Must... mine.. in.. Jita..
I remember the days when I was mining in Jita with my Badger mk 2 and Covetor combo.. I even had a office in Jita 4-4 for my first own corporation! Rent was 16 M ISK a month and there was a gate to Kisogo. And Kisogo and Jita had ice fields!!
