OK - so I'm downloading the full 2gb client again (which will be done in 2-3 hours), and I'm still no closer to having a working version of the game.

Each time I download I either get the corrupted game files message, or the download fails to unpack the game files.

I've only gotten it to install once - managed to get the splash screen and the game crashed to desktop with a "CCP program has stopped working" error.

Any ideas what the magic word is to get this bloody thing to work again?

I'm getting this as well, except i'm on my 5th download. That and its not just my computer its my wife's and my laptop. I don't get it. Is it my ISP or something or do i have a virus? btw all virus scans have shown nothing. And before you ask, yes, i've remove all of the old components of eve before i try to reinstall each time. Anyways, any help on this would be greatly appreciated as the weekend is here and that's when some of the most fun is to be had in EVE.

OK - well I tried and failed twice more.

First with the direct link installer, second with the bittorrent downloader. Both times I get the CRC error message on unpacking.

Reading the threads on past patches this isn't a new problem either, and there's no solution offered to it either.

Every other time I've patched the game I've had to go through a circus of downloads hoping the damn thing will work. This is the first patch where its looking like the entire game is unplayable for me.

Not sure what to do at this point - there's next to no tech help on this game and no answers from CCP in months on this issues, so little reason to expect one now.

Honestly I'm tempted just to pack this crap in. Its a bloody game, you shouldn't have to go through this **** just to get the damn thing to work.

Just when I'd resigned myself to redownloading the full client for every patch, CCP fails to provide an up-to-date full client...

I have had exactly the same problem guys. Ive tried offline/online/steam with it all being corrupt. It looks like im going to have to stop my subscriptions as CCP are obviously not looking into this issue at all. Their patching system is below par at best

I'm going to try again via steam, and give the regular download another chance.

But this is ridiculous - a 20mb patch for "balance issues" breaks the game entirely!? That's just nuts.

There's next to no tech support for this game - WTF!?

7th and 8th download attempts = big fat FAIL

Anyone have any suggestions how to get this damn thing to work?

Chances are that your computer is causing the file corruption.
Try downloading it with a different computer or check your hardware

OK - there's definitely something very screwy going on here and I'm not 100% convinced its with my machine as some sort of incompatibility with Windows Vista.

So after the 8-10 manual client downloads over the last 2 days - I downloaded the client on my old XP desktop (too slow to run EVE) in the basement via the bittorrent downloader. The file unpacked and installed fine. Copied the installed file (and a copy I unpacked manually via 7zip) to a portable HDD and tried to install on my main PC. The unpacked copy gave me a Checksum error, and the packed client gave me the CRC error.

Last resort - I reinstalled windows on the main PC to the factory settings (erasing my HDD in the process). So I copy the files from the HDD - and wouldn't you know - I get the same checksum and CRC errors.

There's nothing in Windows that should be causing this, so I'm finding it hard to understand how the exact same file can install on one computer, yet be "corrupt" on another. In simple language - that's bull****!

I've disabled my internet security and switched off account management control in Vista to no avail. The thing just doesn't want to know.

Here's yet another player who can't get the game installed because the installer keeps messing up the integrity check (I find it rather hard to believe the BT-downloader would give me a broken file, since bittorrent is supposed to have integrated integrity check while downloading). I've tried it in windows and linux, no go.

So... oddly enough after i reformatted my computer it still didn't work. But i am happy to report that as soon as i unhooked my ethernet from my router and plugged it directly into the back of my modem and downloaded the client i am now back on eve. Just thought i'd share with you how i made it work, don't know if it'll work for you or not though.

Try this..

Click " Start " then on the right hand side click computer, then double-click your C: drive or which ever drive EvE is saved to... then select " Users " from that list.. then select the profile you're using " I.E mine is my name ( Dave ) " afterwhich, select " Appdata " ---> " Local " ---> " CCP " ---> " EvE " ---> C_Program__Files_CCP..." and delete your " Settings " folder.. Good luck, worked for me.

Your hardware is broken. Probably RAM or power supply.

How does that work?

The PC seems to run fine.

I ran memtest on it the other day and it passed the tests.

I have read that CRC unpack errors can be an indication of bad RAM, but I don't think this is particularly common.

I've run several memory diagnostic tests (mem test and an OEM test app in the bios) none of which have thrown up any problems.

So I'm going to try replacing the RAM modules and see if that works - though I won't be able to do that for a least a week or two. If that doesn't work - screw it. Its more than enough hassle to go through just to play a game.

I'm having same crc/checksum errors. wiped hard drive and fresh install of windows xp media center. all virus can and fire walls off in windows and on router. i lost the game when i had to refromat hard drive due to a virus and now with the same os and same hardware i can't get it to work. i have downloaded all three ccp options for online, offline and bittoren so many times i can not remember. (fortuanatelt a 2 gig download only takes about 20 minutes on my fios connection. grrrrr, almost ready to tell ccp to stuff it and cancle my account i've had since 2003.

From what I've read the client in the retail box is Quantum Rise (not Apocrypha - though it says Apocrypha on the box).

Glad you got it working with the other link. More than can be said for me Sad

Edit to add: I just tried your method of downloading with GetRight. No go I'm afraid - CRC unpack error once again.

Yeah the new link is what I used.

I think what is called for is a general thread for people who unable to play because this issue. If there are enough of us, then perhaps CCP will acknowledge the existence of the issue, even if they can't offer a solution.

It sucks that the only tech support on offer is a general "clear your cache" page, and a petition system that doesn't seem to get responses.

Its great if the game works, but heaven help you if you have a problem, cause CCP sure won't.
