Not related to the black screen error. But yes, I experience this too.

Upon executing patch, pointing to game install directory:

"The installed client is already compatible with the build number in this update file (88737). Please select another folder."

Upon selecting another folder:

"EVE Online does not appear to be located in the selected folder. Please select another folder."

Upon selecting the game install directory without eve.exe and eve.exe (Safe Mode):

"EVE Online does not appear to be located in the selected folder. Please select another folder."

ultra fail but funny at the same time (how can you overlook implementing a simple option to overwrite existing files or install anyway? At least give us access to a .zip file with the files in them so we can manually extract them. lol)

Same as others as regards to chat windows.

Jumped from System Half into Istodard and noticed that I was still in Half local channel although non-responsive, other chat channels were open, warped to a friend in a safe area and warped back to gate with her still showing 90.8au away, decided to re-log and lost all chat windows and ability to warp anywhere other then this gate.

Re-started computer and had no effect, even tried it on my laptop and did exactly the same thing.

EDIT : Upon starting client reads that Server has 0 players.

EDIT : Clearing Cache DOES NOT work

My client just does not start anymore, not even in safe mode. So after clicking the .exe it seems to be starting up but nothing happens. Any body else have this or know what to do?

I did not experienced the blackscreen issue until this morning.
The patch fix it, I'm not experiencing any issues with it.

Here is the description of my last gaming session before the issues:
Logged in around 21.00 GMT
Stayed docked in station, putting in order some stuff.
From 22.00 to 00.30, done a lot of alt+tab
At 00.30, massive spam with alliance mates in the French channel
Logged of at 00.45

Logged in at 10.00, and got the blacksreen ugh

I would love to try the patch, but I am getting the invalid folder bs as well. Also, an answer for those of us without computer degrees would be fantastic. Not all of us understand how the little Elves inside the box work.

Client locks up. CPU run at 100% on Vista. Tried Safemode and it worked OK. Changed characters then the same happen in safe mode. I will give CCP a break and see how my toons in AO, WOW and Warhammer is doing, I am sure they miss me too!

I will check for feedback from other who tried stuff but I say rest assurred its not YOUR PC or Vista, or the AMD cpu you using. No, closing uTorrent does nothing, so its not the programs running in the back. Strangely Evony (Evony.com) a free online game seem to have similar issues, but it uses flash.

Adobe recently updated...mmm. Then it can also be the dust on my monitor causing problems! HANG IN There, someon will fix it.

Whenever I quit the game my screen goes really dark but I can still make out my desktop. Do you think I should apply the patch?

After waking up the next morning and getting black screen issues again I decided to do a clean install of EvE... Wiped absolutly everything EvE related off the computer and did a clean install, re-downloaded the patch and had no black screen after that. Everything working fine.

I'd like to second the patch no-worky issue - it says that the EVE installation is already compatible. I am having the black screen issue as well.

*Edit* Re-tried loading EVE after failing to install and works fine.

For those of you where Eve seems to run, but the login screen never comes up, Click on Eve, then hit alt+enter.

Ive been having the same "missing chat window" issue,...havent had the black screen of death yet,..Guessim one of the lucky ones. I was in game the other night when one of my friends tryed to convo me, his chat window disapeared too,....odd.
The game has been playable, no lag, atleast minimal lag.
I cant remember if it was before or after the patch but one time the music player window would not show, i ended up having to reinstall for that issue.
things have been a little laggy when i open up a jet can, seems like it takes time to read it off the server and display,...
OH,...the sound issues are back, when i go into a mission, and i got the arties firing seperate, i here one bang about eery 15 seconds instead of the individule guns going off in sync with the firing.
When im in the raven, i here one big "whoosh" of the launchers, about every 15 seconds instead of each launcher individule laucher in sync.
AND,..im still hereing the noises from outside when im docked, Did someone leave a window open or something? Its kindof mixed in but its still there.
This is almost as bad as one of them cheep oriental flick with fuged in voice overs, ya know like when the orientals mouth is moving in like chinese and then you here some guy in english, and there mouths dont match!,....Almost as bad CCP!
But then this is just an observation,...>GRIN<

-=+>xXx<+=-
Fly safe and keep the "AC/DC" playing in the background, so your not distracted by the auful sound affects from the game

Thanks a lot! The patch fixed it for me. I am using Linux together with WINE.

And, yes, please do make sure that the next official patch supports this fix ...

Black screen++

Your black-screen-patch says it is supposed to update from 88517 to 88737 if I read it rightly but the last update as of 14/05/09 ALREADY IS version 88737. Not surprisingly it refuses to patch anything. However I STILL get a black screen after the splash screen. 100% cpu on ExeFile.exe and (worrying) the system error reporter reports errors while pageing (I do limit it rather severely to catch wildly allocating programs). A full disk-check fails to find any problem with the disk so presumably the paging is simply getting screwed-up because your program is looping wildly - quite possibly within the kernel for it to do that.

I suppose my next step would logically be to uninstall then re-install Apocrypha 1.0 then update it to 1.1 and then apply the patch eh? Seems like a massive 2gig waste of time and (expensive) bandwidth when you SHOULD give us a patch for this (buggy) 88737 install instead.

You know - it really would be nice if your server were slightly tolerant of older installs instead of forcing the latest (buggy) download onto everyone all the time. At least we poor people who pay you could then limp on by reverting to a prior version whenever you have a problem. Look - they even repaired the Hubble telescope by plugging in some old cr*p when the new junk they took up there failed to work!

This was with WinXp SP2 on an AMD 64 BTW.

Hint: Back up your install before you patch. Cool

Sadly, I haven't experienced this problem so I'm unable to help...gotta love it when only a few people have issues. ugh

I don't have the blackscreen problem. Or at least i don't think so.

My client just locks up 2-3 minutes into the game, i have to turn everything off at the wall to gain control of my PC back.

This occurs with an without the 'Blackscreen' patch.

Is this the 'blackscreen' issue some people have been experiencing?

I'm having this issue...
