Well guys and Gals the peeps at CCP are working thier marketing genius again.

I subscribe to the aformentioned magazine and this month (received this morning) got to the EXTRA LIFE section.. WOW a whole 8 page spread on EVE Very Happy It really does do the game justice.. lots of excellent screen grabs and in depth stuff, one smalll snag.. it mentioned the Curse Alliance (spit) Evil or Very Mad

Needless to say this could get another influx of playerbase in.. so lets hear a big cheer for PC Gamer, who seem to support EVE like no other magaazine I know Laughing

Yeah, PCG have always supported Eve. Not only because it was the underdog, but an excellent underdog. Wish I knew who they were in-game! ugh

*cough* backhander

In all honestly EVE's been marketed too much i mean 2 trials then the Beta deal etc.
The playerbase wont get any higher rather than trickle and random 1timer trial accounts.

Tbh : the time based skills will put alot of people off i mean its like 1.5 years till you will even get near the top flight of today which is quite a stint to say the least.

EVE was the type of game where if you didnt go in from the start theres no capacity to Catch up.
Ok the 1 player type people and the folks who stick to missions may be a good bet. But the next generation PvP'er will be non existant.

imo no new player should ever be able to catch up with a long standing one. it defeats the whole point of playing for a long time. why start in 2003 and play for a year when yuo can start in 2004 play for 6 months and be in the same situation.

the next gen pvp wont be non existent, as there will always be people around his level to fight. even so, once hes got into a bas he can still challenge long term standing plaers and still pull of some wins.

but its as it sohuld be, the longer you play the more uber you are.

CCP has to get their arses in gear for the North American market. I subscribe to PC Gamer and Computer Gaming Monthly here in the US and I hear little to no news about Eve.

You're talking like it was a chore getting to your level. So you were actually working hard, not having fun playing a game, right? Imagine if you were a newbie realising how utterly impossible it will be to EVER catch up to oldies, just because you didn't start the race as soon as them. Why should you even bother playing the game? If an oldie kills you and you think "I'll get you one day" you will then realize "Wait, no I won't, because the speed I progress is the same speed you do".

The journalist who wrote the article was in CA.

It's an alright piece, although they spelt 'Scorpion' wrong and called the Mammoth a Hoarder Razz

But that's just nitpicking I suppose.

Good stuff. Always good to see my favourite game marketed. As for new people never being able to catch up to old people, that's true. The thing that makes all MMORPGS last is the natural entropy bell curve which says all players get bored after x months. IMO I think the average EVE'er will play for a year and then move on. The minority will stay longer and the minority will stay for less. What this means is we'll have a few 'legends' who will hang around for ever, a few 'noobs', and a whole bunch of people who will be near enough on par with each other in terms of pvp

EDGE is from the same stable of publications as PCGamer and they did sone nice coverage on EVE about two months ago.

I normally definitely get EDGE and PC Gamer occasionally. However just popped to WHSmith and they had the October issue and the EVE article is pretty damn good.

CCP couldn't get better fanboi coverage if they actually paid someone to write it Smile

Its nice to see that over a year on from its launch the word of mouth on EVE is just getting stronger - before Shiva has even been launched.

More atricles = more subscribers = more cash for CCP = more investment of the game and its deam = better gaming experience.

EA and SOE could learn something from CCP I think Smile

After just geting introduced to EVE leveling system I came to the conclusion that the perfect system would be an hybrid rewarding both online and offline time. I saw an article recently saying that DAoC was implementing an hybrid system to get its new player base in the thick of the action faster. They are going to give players a level for every week where they leveled on their own atleast once if I remember(not retroactive ). They had trouble with new players geting discouraged I think.

This is from memory, a DAoC player can correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually though they'll never quite catch up, as time goes by it takes longer and longer for veterans to train skills for less effect, early on they train all the rank 1 skills, then the rank 2 etc etc. A million skill points for a newbie makes a massive difference in how they perform. A million points to someone who already has 20 million has a small effect on their performance.

Unlike some other games someone with 10 million skill points fighting in a battleship versus somone in the same battleship with 15 million isn't a foregone conclusion - it depends on ship fitting, what skills they developed and their combat skill as well.

eve has this system, but its just too slow, if you fly a industrial ship for example you will slowly get skill points in that skill, I trained amarr industrial to lvl1 and got nearly all of lvl2 for free

the problem is that this part is just too slow

We at Eve Radio are very excited to have been mentioned prominently in this article. It's a real boost for us and especially all the DJs who work so hard.

That said, they were obviously tuned in to Doby's show when they wrote the article. That's the only explanation for the praise + dissing we got all at once. Cool
