What would be the most optimal way of completing AE4?

I fly a faction fitted Golem (Caldari Navy) & All the relevant missle skills are at LVL 5

If I revert to anyones methodology I will give them a prize!

You fly in and start shooting.
If you're after speed run, then kill the structures so spawns dont appear. If you're after money then kill everything.
This must be a trick question...

Partial fit on my Golem, still has no prob with Angel Extra lvl4. You didnt state your fit however, i got enough tank for all lvl4s plus 2 target painters on top of skills/ rigs/ implants. Only thing that is annoying is that sometimes t1 torps wont hit the 38-40km orbiting rats, so i carry a few Javelins just in case.

As for the method: 1st/ 2nd/ 4th and 5th area: set drones on frigates/ destroyers, 1-2 salvo BCs, then mop up the BSs. Tip: killing the highest bounty BS brings in reinforcements, which are usually around 50-60km away, so unless you salvage in a dedicated ship after mission, it pays to wait till they get closer (or make them spawn right away).

3rd area is just a lone low-bounty BS and some sentry guns/ launchers, nothing that will even notch shields. Just blow up the BS, and proceed.

Do you want to loot and salvage too, or just blast through and collect bounties?

I've only run AE level 4 once, and didn't try the bonus room. The rest of it seems to cry out for torps; the Angels get sooooo close to you. I did it with cruise, and didn't really have any problems with it. Kill everything but the trigger first, then kill the trigger, then kill the next wave. Repeat until room is done, bookmark a wreck, use the gate to go to the next room and repeat.

From the mission guides, they recommend in the bonus room that you kill the cruise launchers early to cut down the incoming damage and leave the trigger ship till last to avoid the extra ships it'll spawn. I'd imagine that with your skills and a Golem you could probably handle it just fine.

Slightly OT: Do any of the other versions have bonus rooms? I just noticed after doing a Serpentis one there was no bonus room...

I did AE in a drake, never had to warp out or aynthing but for the last room, you're gonna need one persons help because otherwise it takes too long going in and out to eliminate enough ships so you can accualy stay.

Aside from the Bonus Room, AE is a breeze.

Last Battleship in each group triggers a new spawn, so kill BS last. Viola.

Ignore this.
Each wave has a preset trigger ship, typically the highest bounty BS. Eve survival site can tell you what they are (except for cases of N same battleships, then you have to guess based on their spacial location. The lone BS is usually the trigger).

Rolling Eyes

The POINT is that the battleships are the triggers and none of them ever scram - so save them for last and you'll be fine. There is not much DPS to tank in AE outside of the bonus room.

My advice is perfectly sound.

This is wrong. Most mission have a single trigger that is easy to spot, or it may be the last of a group of BSs, but not so with AE.

Here is what eve-survial says:
Quote:
Identifying the spawn trigger is difficult. It is usually the highest bounty battleship, but not always.
It will get confusing when there are two (or more) battleships with the same name or two different battleships where either one is the possible trigger.
Try to see if one flies differently i.e. a little separated from the main group.
I have noticed also that if only 1 BS is firing torps, that is usually the trigger.

For example, here is some info for pocket 4.
Quote:
Spawn 1: (41-51km)
2x Elite Frigates (Angel Viper/Webifier) Web/Scramble
4x Battleships (Gist Commander/War General/General/Warlord) Trigger (Gist War General/Gist Warlord)

Spawn 2: (68-74km)
2x Elite Frigates (Angel Viper/Webifier) Web/Scramble
3x Battleships (Gist Warlord/War General/General) Trigger (Gist War General/Gist Warlord)
It is entirely possible that the first BS you take out triggers the next wave, which can make things hairy.

Its best to keep track of spawns so that when you do that (and you will with AE4) you can focus on taking out the previous spawns BSs before going after the new spawn BSs which may trigger yet another wave.

You all are making this WAY too complicated. In a Golem it doesn't matter if you kill the triggers early - Angel ships go down really fast, so additional ones won't matter much. I run this in my Drake with no issues, and sometimes I purposely kill the triggers early because I'm bored and I want a challenge. Seriously, just go in and kill stuff. It's not brain surgery...

Flying this in my Drake, I just blow up what's closest to me.

Drake tanks the bonus room just fine too, using HML, afterburner, staying at maximum range from the battleships.

THIS!

AE is way too much overhyped. except for the bonus pocket, any well fitted lv4 mission runner ship gets through it as hot knife through butter. Of any spawn, kill the BS-s last, and there won't be any significant problems. last pockets spider drones may look frightening (webbing from any distance (100+km also)), but that case you have to fight off a single bs only, and whether using torps or sentries, it's just a few volleys and he's off. bonus pocket is tough (for a while), but for that you just shout on local if anyone wants to join you with that for shared bounty, and i guess you'll have your company in no minute: ask him/her to bring in heavy DPS, and you'll be the tank as you have to go in first (most opponents will aggro you). to make it, you have to build your strategy well: how to build your tank, and how to use it, and which targets shall be primaries and so. (for example, if you use a HAC your speed should be a part of your tanking capabilities, thus webbing frigs are your biggest concern, while in a heavy HP BS, sentries and cruise batteries hurt the most if fitted for exp/kin resist mostly.)

but my personal experience says: no real use making it. since AE pays really nice (farming it gives 30-50mil looted/salvaged everytime you make it), by the time you have to finish it you'll earn much more than you'd care to move into the bonus pocket for that extra 10-20mil (can be much better with lucky drop). fortunately I have 2 quite good lv4 agents 1 jump from each other, and AE is quite a rare mission to be given, so once i get it, i farm it, while running other missions at the other agent. bonus pocket in my opinion is a great adventure, adrenaline rush with possible nice loot, but mostly unworthy to make it.

my 2 cents

AE has way lower incoming DPS than quite a lot of l4s, cept the bonus room. Angel Blockade will give you a harder time, and that's easily reduced by just keeping out of range of the NPCs...

Fly in, blow stuff up, profit? it's not a technical mission.

don't forget to salvage. i farmed this mission a couple of weeks ago for a week. Made $140MM isk in bounties and recovered about 150 alloy trit bars and 130 armor plates, not to mention about 10,500 m3 in loot. not too bad a haul. kill everything except the final named battleship in room 5. you can run it every day until your time runs out. gl.
