Greetings,

I downloaded the Eve trial about 2 weeks ago now, and my trial period will expire today. I couldn't find the game at any store, so I purchased the $19.95 account key through Fileplanet. Now, when I go to account management on the Eve site, for the trial account I have been playing, it has no option for entering a key code to set the trial account to a normal one.

Could someone please help me figure out how to do this? I fear if I don't get this figured out today, I will lose my character when the trial expires on this account.

no worries about losing your character... they are kept even when your account is suspended. im afraid i dont know what you can do about that but you might try sending a petition ingame.

Ok, I'm not 100% sure but I think what you should have done was wait for your trial account to expire - you would then be given the option to make it a 'full' account and begin paying the monthly subs from that point on. Your trial account would have had its own account key that you entered to activate it. By buying anouther key you have effectivley bought a second account.

Don't quote me on this cos like I said I'm not 100% sure. Best bet is to get in touch with a GM or email CCP.

Although Fileplanet does distribute the client all they do is buy a key for you. All billing goes though CCP. You have in essence bought 2 accounts, what you should have done is gone to your account management and entered a billing meathod.

To do so:
->Go to the main page
->Select account Management from the sidebar
->Modify an existing account
->Enter your login info
->Subscription details
->Then payment type.

You can either order a gametime card, pay via credit card, or use paypal. There was a pay by cash meathod but I believe that has been removed ever since paypal became more reasonable with their services.

I talked to a GM about this one for a friend and he said you startup the new "paid" account. Then you have to file a petition giving the old and new account information. They will then transfer your trial character to your new paid account. Since this can take a few days I'd do it 10 days in not 14 just to make sure it happens and you don't lose playing time.

Any ISD feel free to correct me if this is wrong but this is what I heard in a PM chat last month with GM Xhagen (think that was who).

Since they have no easy way of doing this, and if I would have to wait a week or so to play my character again, I'll probably be cancelling this account altogether. I wanted to give the game a bit longer to try out more advanced aspects, but if they make it this hard to retain customers from a trial, I really don't feel like bothering with it.

I petitioned in game, and talked to a GM for a short bit. I explained my situation very carefully, that I already have an account key that I need added to my trial account. The GM tells me to go to the eve website to extend the trial by purchasing it, absolutely no help at all. If they are this indifferent about helping a prospective new customer, and offer no help or resolution at all when I ask, I don't think they'll be getting any of my money.

The game definitely interests me, but this MMOG market is about to become mega-saturated, and I just can't see forking over my hard earned dollars, to a company that could care less about me being a customer. It boggles the mind, this is a very simple problem that should be easily resolved. A simple option to enter a new CD or account key to turn your trial into a full one, would be all they need. How can it be this difficult?

If they can resolve my issue today, and make it so that I won't lose playing time, I will probably stay for awhile. This is extremely disturbing though, I want to be with a game that does everything possible to attract new customers and retain old ones. When they don't have an account key option for trial accounts, it makes me wonder how serious they are.

Was just told by a GM in game, that there is nothing they can do about my account key problem. What a bloody joke.

I hear ya.

To add your 'trial' character to the account you just purchased would take someone at CCP about 10 seconds to do. I've used the transfer option myself and its instantaneous.

Unfortunatley they charge 20 euros for that 'service' so I doubt you'll get any help from them unless you pay up.

They'd rather make a quick buck off ya than help out a possible long term player / subscriber. Confused

I was on trial too and just extended to regular by paying 20$. Your problem is that you seem to have bought a new account instead of extending yours so now you have to go threw someone fixing it via email wich could take a few days.

It's certainly doable as some did it before you, but it's more of a hassle. As for the GM in game I'm not sure they are the right people to talk to, GMs are sometimes clueless on administrative problems.

Good point Clyde, maybe that's the reason you can't just enter a newly purchased key into your trial account, so they can milk more money from transfers. This is absolutely ridiculous though, I'm sure many people would try to buy the boxed version, while on a trial, which would put them in the same situation as me.

After a similar game, Earth and Beyond is being shut down, you think they'd scramble and do everything they could to attract new subscribers, retain old ones, and smoothly transfer trial accounts into full ones, by whichever means the person chooses. But it seems they could care less, and are burning bridges for future customers, as I had 2 friends who were thinking about trying Eve out with me, but will not if I cancel.

No GM will help, CCP won't help or respond. The GM's last message to me in game, was the current response time is 3 to 4 days, have a nice day. Just the way this guy talked to me and did nothing to help, totally turns me off from this game. Any GM or administrator out there going to do anything to help, or just going to let me walk??

I had this same problem. I had a trial account and bought a boxed version (I actually found one!). I then sent a question to support saying how do I register with the key and keep my account. They said make the new account, then reply with your old account and charater and your new account and they would transfer for free. It was done in under 24 hours.

Thought I would throw out an update to my problem with becoming a subscriber, because it's really ridiculous now. I decided the only way to resolve this, was to cancel the account order with Gamespy, and try to extend my account through the Eve site.

I have a Mastercard debit card, that I've been able to use at every single site, and with every single MMO on the market, without a hitch. I tried using this exact same card to extend my Eve trial account, and I get the message, "Your credit card could not be validated." Then I look through the forums, and find that this is another common problem that CCP is ignoring. Many people replied to this one post, most saying that they didn't extend and don't subscribe to Eve, because of this credit card problem, and CCP's indifference with it. In one thread, the initial post was made over 6 weeks ago, and there is still no resolution to the problem by CCP.

It looks like I won't be a subscriber of Eve, because I can't pay for my subscription with my debit card. If the way CCP is handling the billing and ignoring hundreds of lost accounts is bothering you, I urge you to send a message to them, voicing your displeasure. It's the only way they will ever change their ways, and begin to care about the customers. Their wait time for customer service issues is at 3-5 days right now, and that is an absolute outrage in this business. They should probably pull out of the MMOG business, if they can't respond to customer problems quicker than that, with this small of a player base.

You bought a second account by mistake, and thats CCP's fault?
You tried to pay for a game which states you need a valid credit card with a debit card, and thats CCP's fault?

To be honest I think Eve might be a bit much for you, although you would fit in well with some of the forum warriors.

Seriously, take some personal responsibility - CCP can't be blamed for mistakes you make, and they sure as hell shouldn't be expected to clear up after you.

Avon: Can you read and comprehend basic english? I don't think so, because you are obviously a forum troll, who is flaming without even knowing about my gripe over this issue. The problem wasn't with buying a second account, it was with the total lack of customer support and help, when I submitted my problem.

I also tried to pay for this game with a valid debit card with the Mastercard logo, which is accepted as a credit card in every single location, and on every single merchant website that I know of. If you don't know this simple fact, you are one misinformed troll. I found out that their credit card payment problem was more of a bug, as some people's normal credit cards didn't work either. So please, go back under your bridge and find a better post to troll, eh?

On a positive note, I had one last update to my situation. I finally received a response to my problem, and after creating my new account with the account key I had purchased, the customer service guy was able to transfer my trial character to my new account in under 30 minutes. I was surprised and impressed to say the least, although I think they still need to up their support staff, especially on the weekends.

So, for those with problems, don't give up hope. If you submit your problem or issue, and it has to do with billing, chances are they will get back to you, and get your problem fixed very quickly. I am still curious about this credit card bug, but when creating my new account, it accepted my debit card just fine.

Thanks to all who gave advice and offered insight into my problem, it definitely helped. And Avon, trolling and flaming in what is essentially a tech help thread, has to be one of the lamest things I have ever seen.

This was the fourth answer to your question which pretty much would have solved the issue. The following posts of you were one big cheese and whine festival. You reap what you sow.

What was the point of your post Tharn? I did exactly what was suggested here, it just took them forever to even respond to me on it. So knowing that, how the heck does "you reap what you sow" fit into this thread? I was frustrated and unhappy with how they were handling new subscriptions, after seeing many posts on this board with people that were hung out to dry, and just gave up on the game.

My problem was resolved and I'm now a happy customer. Your trolling and flaming are severely misguided, and once again, trolling on a tech help thread has to put one in contention for "Lamer of the Year".

You have to understand that most people who play eve (50000 of us) are intensely loyal to it.

Therefore someone who critisizes it seemingly unfairly gets flamed.

Where do you come up with this number 50,000 that is a little high concidering the system in only set up for 25,000? Which is far better then the original 10,000 the game started with.Twisted Evil

This is incorrect. I just changed the subscription/payment method for my trial account, worked perfectly.

Done this again for my little brother, again worked fine.

when u entered the "debit card" numbers, you might have transposed some numbers, also its best not to refer to it as a "debit card" as most banks refer to it as a "check card", cause a debit card is the card that can only be used at ATMs...

Also as for the info on them not excepting these Check cards is either incorrect, or not inforced, cause its how i have been paying for mine since March, and i just opened a second account about 10 days ago, using the same card....

the difference between the 2 cards is check card has 3-4 numbers more then debit cards, as well as on the back is a secret 3 digit number that only check cards and actual credit cards have.....

if you dont want 2 accounts(original Poster) is cancel the trial account and access the new account, u'll only lose a week playing time...

and since it takes 2-3 days for funds to be withdrawn from an account using a check card as a credit card. then technecly it can be said it is a credit card, since with debit cards the money is removed the same day....IMO

Thank you for your feedback.
For someone who so clearly disapproves of trolling and flaming you seem very good at it.

I think you'll find my post was an accurate account of the facts as you had presented them. If that has caused you some level of displeasure then I am sorry
It is clear that I alone in the entire community took the view that your posts were nothing more than a whine, and that customer services would best be able to deal with your issue(s). I see now that you posted in a general forum with the sole intention of getting tech support, and this was obviously the most appropriate place to vent.

Clearly I have misjudged you, and so I would like to apologise and take this opportunity to welcome you to Eve.

You should know the difference between the number of subscribers and the number of players online at the same time. Do you think that seing 10,000 players on tranquility at the same time mean that there is 10,000 subscriber? So all of them would be login at the same time? Come on, think if you can.

What do you mean by this? I can't find any way to use a CD-KEY to extend a trial account into a full account. Does anyone know if this is possible from the Account Management page?
