I have been plondering over how to become the best at PvP but all i have come across is that u can never garintee to win a fight for the simple reasons that wining a fight consists of 3 things

1:Skills
2:PvP Exp
3:Setup

But most of all LUCK in setups, u can get a setup to kill someone but there is always some way around it if there wasnt everyone will use that setup so it all depends in what u have at the time, course some setups are more efective then others but can u give me your opinion on this plz

I think that's the POINT. If you could be guaranteed to win EVERY fight with the same setup, then something is wrong with game balance.

well... yeah, pretty much. there is no "uber" setups, only the ones you hope your target isn't expecting, or the ones that make you feel good about yourself Cool you choose

in short, anything can be countered, some probably a bit easier than others. skills give you means and leeway to equip some not so normal setups. experience gives you knowledge of which setup to use and how to best employ it.

the rest is pretty much tossed to any other factor you can think of.

That's why you have to know the setup of your enemy. If you know that you've already won half the battle. That's why the Jovians are willing to trade so much for simple knowledge - because they understand knowledge is power.

Was it Sun Tzu that said "know your enemy"? Alright bloke, that Sun. Knew his marbles.

Yes sure , but with enough knowledge of what poeple are usually using and with enough cash you can setup ships wich are bound to win if you encounter a lone opponent in space.

For a long time i havent been beaten in my bs by anyone alone ( a 1-1 encounter in space), tough i sure can admit there are possible setups wich could kill me.

The word is optimise, fit a setup to suit the likely npc hunter or pvp'er you will never be 100% right but you can atleast take a large percentage of what people are likely to fit. say a blackbird, take all the ecm modules that will enable you to jam a bs, say 3 ecm's and equip 1 type, hold the other 3 types in ur hold. take a m8 with you preferably a second blacbird. just for damage purposes, then thats the jamming out the way, most ppl dont fit more than 1 warp stabilizer, so 2 warp scramblers at 20k work fine then ofcourse 1 webber each. the majority of people u can easily take down that are in cruisers, these setups work on battleships to, 6 ecm's x 6 strength = 36 strength, BUT 2 blackbirds simply wont cut it for damage output on a bs.

The lack of a uber setup is the greatest thing about pvp in eve. I pray this never changes.

There are a lot of decisions to make and questions to ask in a fight. There's more to it than luck...

Anatomy of a battle:

He's locking on, better lock back.

What is it, can I beat it? Am I jammed or webbed, can I even run if I want to?

Get into the fight. Should I spend the cap on a jammer, or is he too confident to run?

What items are being used? Tick his slots off one-by-one. Work out what he's capable of.

What are my slots holding? Which ones are useless in this fight, and which are golden? How long can I run them?

What weapon-type is he using? What have I got? Should I get in close or keep my distance?

Do I have help on the way? Does he? How long can either of us hold out? How can I drag my death out longer, or kill him quicker?

When will his cap give out, given his setup? When can I flee, or when will his tanking wear out?

Who can outrun who? Who is outgunned? Is ECM an issue? Who has most at stake? How much does this fight matter? How does this guy fight?

Yes but there is still alot of luck involved in what u said like "How long can either of us hold out?" that depends on what setup they have which could be tanked or EW who know, luck

Lming this is how it should be , and to a certain extent was till recently.

Atm the bs fights last very short if its amore then 3 bs engagemnt usually if you are target you got no time for anything.

The dmg really should be nerfed or the defence upped, its ridicule.Epic battles between bs ending under 10 seconds.
