I'm living in the netherlands, so can't really help you out there.

It's just frustrating to see that goverment departments aren't doing anything to help you.

Goodluck and be strong, I'm sure everything will work out fine eventually.

another bump for a good cause, I hope.. It sounds like beyond all the regular hardships that come with being chained to a wheelchair, you're having astronomical bad luck ontop of that, keep fighting to move forward though and hopefully there will be a light at the end of this tunel, good luck and stay strong.

broke college student with no car out in Los Angeles... sorry I can't do anything, free bump for a good cause.

Only thing I could suggest is, if future accomodations are still up in the air, try to stick to a major city. Having lived in a major city for all my life, my mother didn't drive so I would take public transport all the time - still do as a college student. The buses in both the Washington DC and LA area both have full wheelchair compatibility on the vast majority of buses, and bus service is fairly comprehensive for the whole region in both cities. Rent could be a problem but there's a few cheaper areas in both cities as well.

Good luck.

its such a pain. i finaly got into the apartment on the 4th to find i only have access to half of it. the second bedroom and bathroom open into a tiny hallway where its to small for me to turn my chairs through the doors. oh well

van died and it cost me $725 to get it towed back to austin then apartment raised the deposit from $100 to $399.

now i just have to raise the deposit money for all the utilitys and find some way to get my stuff moved from wis to austun.

thanks for all the moral support folks and for listening to my rants.

It's taking all my willpower not to bring politics into this. Embarassed

Maybe you could try and bring your situation to the attention of local or state media? Once someone's bad luck like this gets some media attention offers of assistance (financial, moving help, people to make your place more accessible etc) tend to come out of every quarter.

Well I hope the above poster is incorrect.

That aside, you may want to look into an actual retirement community. Yes the population is significantly older then you, but they are dealing with many of the same issues and the accommodations usually electric chair friendly. I am not sure what the cost of living is in retirement homes are in Texas, but it definitely meet your accessibility requirements.

Also, as stated above try to get in touch with the media. Shedding light on your situation publicly should find you with more then enough assistance.

Good luck,

Bump from San Diego.

And to think I thought public transportation in San Diego was bad. Sorry to hear about your predicament. Hope you get settled in a nice place, fast internet, close to shops/bars and other venues.

BTW, in San Diego, I had a friend who lived with his disabled friend and every day people would come buy and drop off groceries and or full meals for him. Not sure if this was a state social welfare program for the disabled because he also had a nurse that came buy everyday too, but maybe it's something to ask about. I think he had multiple strokes which either left him partially paralyzed or wrecked havoc on his nervous system; he was a successful business man before hand, luckily his house had already been paid off before his misfortune set in. :(
