So either CCP accidentally priced Ammar strategic cruiser skill books 10x higher or the other three races 10x lower.

I'm trying to decided what the fix will be for all the people who already bought (and/or speculated on) those books will be. Any thoughts MD forum?

Just quietly change the price(s).

Those who buy earlier normally get lucky or get screwed, such is life.

At 1.4M per what are you risking? 14M could make you over 100. Worst case you sell them for 1.399999 M in the stations you bought them from over the next few weeks.

Bought a few of each.

I predict they'll slap the price of the Amarr one down to that of the other three races shortly. Though I expect that privately they'll be annoyed at themselves that they partially broke a new ISK sink.

Not that I haven't picked up a few of the cheaper books, myself. I mean, who knows?

I probably bought way too many, but there is a chance. Wouldn't be the first time...

picked up 50 myself. will probably just mean I have to resell them for a slight loss over the next month or two but since I'll be selling hundreds of items anyway that's no big deal.

Here's hoping they quickly fix the imbalance and hand me 0.5bln
:-P

Well, I've laid out enough ISK so that if it plays out well enough I should make enough back for an E/GTC at least.

Fingers crossed! Wink

Personally, I think the Amarr one is correct. Compare this to the skill needed for HAC's is about 30m. Only being 1.5m sounds too cheap for a skill that requires cruiser 5 as a prereq.

That said, there will be thousands upon thousands of these skill books bought out on speculation due to this price imbalance. I highly doubt a strategic cruiser will be a mainstream option for a long time. Until then it will be the domain of the collectors and the super rich. That doesn't leave all that many customers to unload those "cheap" skill books onto.

My prediction: The people that bet big on this (buying hundreds or thousands of copies) are going to take months or years to unload them, even at a loss.

I'm in for 130mil (30 skillbooks per race, intended to go light on caldari because everyone is buying that 2x as much, but, wasn't thinking. oh well).

This is the way I see it: I expect CCP to lower amarr price and so I'll be out about 70mil having to sell the books to buyers at 40% or so to get them to move. I'm just in because I'll be kicking myself really really hard if they actually are underpriced, so I consider my small investment more as a hedge against being really annoyed at myself if they do go up in value and I didn't buy any Cool.

Also what the poster above me said.

My 0.02 ISK:

I would say that the Amarr skillbook is correct. Figure in that the price of that book it about 14M, and each of the 5 subsystem books are about 2M each, add that together and it about 25M worth of skill books. This seems in line with the HAC and recon prices. This is assuming that you dont lose the skillbook if your ship gets blown up and you have a skill drop from lvl 1 to lvl 0.

With the number of people buying these the price will probably be like 2mil even if they do adjust prices...

I agree that 1.4m is way too cheap but you never know.

I will risk 130m to make 1300m if goes bust I get back 120m -- A+ Investment

Good Luck everyone.

So can we expect all of the above self confessed bug exploiters to be banned by CCP or does that only apply to POS bug exploiters? Wink

I am sure CCP could do a more complete correction, e.g., converting any truly mis-priced existing skill books in every hangar and on the market to novelty trade goods like 'Racial Strategic Cruiser Misprint'... and seeding the corrected books at the right price with new itemIDs. The items held by these speculators would then be akin to melted snowballs.

This would take a bit of sorting out (e.g., to make sure that people who started training it were not messed up), but it would be amusing!

ah well, if you bought them at 1.4 they'll still go for well over 2 in any hub you care to name, so it's not exactly wasted.

Market speculation is fair game, is it is simply speculation. It is just as easy for CCP to drop the price on the Amarr book as it is to raise the price on the other three. There is no way of knowing for sure until the change is final, at that point it is too late.

Perhaps you are too young to know about the tractor beam blueprint incident. Twisted Evil

It is market speculation but it is clearly based on exploiting a ‘bug’ in NPC prices.

However my comment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek and I’m not really proposing banning anyone (unless they are direct competitors Twisted Evil).

Oh man that generated sooo much nerdrage.

If you're really really old you'll remember when they added 2 nocxium to scourge heavy missiles' costs to bring their material costs in line with others. This was back when trit was at like 1.5 and nocx was at like 400, so you could have made a killing.

Yes, and clearly the price of the Tractor Beam blueprint is bugged.

The NPC price for most blueprints is ~10x the build cost, but not the Tractor Beam blueprint it is 1/10 of the build cost.

CCP changed the price on Sisi back in January 2006, they also stated in patchnotes that the price was going to be changed. Many speculators bought blueprints. CCP changed their mind and left the price as it was. Twisted Evil

It is speculation. There is nothing certain to go on, even if CCP announces that they will be changing it, don't count on it until it is live. By that time it is too late to jump on board. So you need to take a risk if you are going to speculate.

BTW - it looks like the speculators lose on this one. Just checked in-game and Amarr Stretegic Cruisers is now listed at 1.4M.
