1) This patcher works for 1/5 people. Actual figure. I have tried it with 5 people. Only one has it after 3 hours.
2) This patcher does NOT work on vista. One of my group just has "download not available".
3) This patcher uses BITS, which is designed for slow background downloading, not crucial software updates that prevent use in-between.
4) There is NO OPTION to download the files manually. Any link that APPEARS like it is, just happens to be a link to the auto-updater.
5) You trialed the patch on SiSi, and these problems were raised.
Sort it out, or at least provide some kind of standard download. This is not ideal for people with fast connections that cut out (IE, everyone with a laptop using wireless).
This also wastes the bandwidth of people installing on multiple clients.
An all-around unnecessary and pitiful patcher. |

Edited by: Esme Nomarra on 10/03/2009 20:27:31 Granted, I'm running EVE via WIne, so I was expecting problems, but after teh patcher failed, I clicked the link given by th patcher, and that worked. Kind of - it appeared to be downloading a 1.3GB file at 30-40k/sec. I'm on 2MB ADSL.
After several attempts, I gave up and am currently just downloading the new client. At the rather better better rate (over 100K) Which means I'm going to have to set up my overview settings AGAIN. - damn. Just checked, and teh client download has fallen over. it's saying 'Validated failed' (some kidn of checksum error, apparently). And guess what? I get to try teh 'Click here to download manually' link again! Lucky, lucky me..
CCP - will you PLEASE stop mucking about with the game so often? one major update a year is quite enough. And make bloody sure that your patching and download systems work, please! Better to delay an update to ensure it works than to publish one that doesn't! (PS: now IE tells me it;s downloading nearly 2GB at 40-50KB/sec. IF it works. I'm not holding my breath on that one...)
UPDATE - that failed. I tried again, but it won't finish until way beyond midnight, and this being a noisy PC, I'm cancelling the download so my sleep isn;t disturbed and will restart it in the morning, so it downloads whilst I'm at work. Damned poor show about the poor download speeds on top of everything else, CCP. |

1) It took me four hours just to download on a reliable connection. so, RELAX!
2) I have it on my desktop computer and my laptop, and you guessed it, they both run Windows Vista.
3) WOW, you actually don't know what BITS is. The Background Intelligent Transfer Service, although has the word "BACKGROUND" in it's name, is not meant only to be used for "BACKGROUND" downloading. BITS is just an easy way to limit and prioritize download/uploads to the EVE servers, and is a typical part of any Windows Server setup, which by the way, EVE uses.
4) hmm...There should be a mirror up by now if you really want to download the files at half the speed.
5) sigh....SEE ABOVE.
Look in your temp files (I don't feel like walking you through it), the patch files are downloaded there before they are installed, and should still be there even after installation. Use that on your other computers.
Also, you really shouldn't be downloading something at your local <insert public hot-spot name here>. |

1) Ditto. 2) Two of my friends with Vista can't install. I am on XP, thank God. 3) WOW, you actually don't know what BITS is. BITS is designed to download windows service packs and IIRC is designed not to waste your computer's internet connection as it is mostly used by invisible programs. Even Wiki agrees. 4) Half of 66Kb/s is 33Kb/s, I got 540Kb/s from Mr Pirate. 5) See above? 6) They are deleted after a failed or successful patch. Which is stupid. 7) I'm not. Wireless also has the sucks(tm) brand. However, again, my friends are and have had their downloads cut out. Which is not a problem where download managers are allowed. Perhaps I thought before I posted, eh? |

Please do give us back the normal download option, I can't download large files on this computer so I have to do it on others then transfer the files.. If I can't download a manual patch file, I can't play.
