Will we still have to navigate around daily downtime or will the queue work regardless?

Actually an interesting question.

Maybe like production/research works, however, what happens to the skill that is supposed to start? The server might check every player and adjust the skillpoints to cover the amount that it missed. Althought that might make downtime longer. ugh

To my understandings skills are kept and ran on a different "server" then what TQ is.. So even though the TQ server is down the skills will continue as planned. The only reason downtime effected skill training was because you physically had to be on TQ in order to switch skill which isnt possible during down time.. Queue should work as planned even through DT.

I expect that the queue will work just fine through downtime.

Skill completions will likely be calculated when you log on next, just the same as they are now.

Where ever possible CCP programs the game to wait on calculations until a player interacts with it. As another example, industry jobs are not "completed" until you choose to deliver them.

I'm also pretty sure it'll work fine whether it's downtime or not.

The test server also has the dayly planned downtime (currently between 9:00-10:30 GMT). Just go there, start a queue training with a couple of skills ending/starting during the DT, then see what happens.

it works fine over DT's - unexpected or not - it all gets calculated when you request it via the api or log in

devs have stated (i think in the blog) that it will be one of the advantages. (that it will change skill during downtimes)

The skill queue is simply a list of skills. The server periodically will check the list to see if a skill train has finished and then update the character info as appropriate. When the server comes up from downtime, it runs through the queue list just like normal and updates any that have completed during downtime.

Keep in mind Eve is essentially a pretty interface on a database application. It's merely going to do the appropriate database queries after downtime just like during normal operation.

Yeah, obviously, the skills aren't really "ticking" as time passes. It's merely an illusion displayed in the character window.
