Actually, looks much better. One of the things that always got me about the current effect is that it is basically an attachment off the front of the ship. So 20 ships pointing 20 different ways all arrive in the same location? Ehhh, whu-thu? Second, if the ship changes orientation when jumping the tunnel swings around with the front of the ship. Say-who-wha!? The one in the video looks decidedly non-directional and damn cool in the process. Doesn't kick me out of immersion. |

Yer but as a cap pilot i dont want it to look like a gay disco bar light show , the way it is atm look s perfectly fine all they need to sort out is as you said the positioning of the ships once they come out of jump. |

What I think: Current warpdrive effect is good. When you fly through it even takes red/blue light shift into account. I think that speed-up/slow-down should be more rapid, if the ship isn't moved by ordinary "Newton physics device" (Rocket drive), but by some kind of a device that manipulates a space-time continuum...
Concerning interstellar jumps and cynos, their effects should have something with optical distortions, some lensing effects maybe... The best jumpdrive effect I ever seen is in Battlestar Galactica, you know It's almost NO SPECIAL EFFECTS: The ship is here, jump, it's not here...
Take a Screenshot from EVE, something with a planet or station, open it in Photoshop, Then select Liquify filter, Seleck Pucker tool there, make it larger, density 25, click and hold somewhere, then make that region a bit darker... That's how the space with warping-out ship may look like... When the ship has warped-out, there may be some waves, with distortion, but without textures... And, please, nobody likes that glossy, plastic-like waves... |
