First off, they cannot simply be bigger and better, they need a role to fill. For that I point to remote repair.

Currently the only option to run large remote repair modules is either to keep your sluggish battleship within 8km of your ally or use a logistics cruiser of the appropriate race. With wormhole exploration coming up, spidertanking your wormhole gang seems a reasonable choice to help ensure survivability against the not so horrifyingly stupid ai, but logistics ships are soon going to be (as they often already are in pvp) primaried and vaporized.

So the general gist of the idea is to give Tier 4 battleships a 150% bonus / level to the range of remote repair systems. Whether its a bonus to all remote repair systems, or just to the racially appropriate one is up for debate. It should also be noted that they will not have a cap bonus to their operation, making running more than 2 large remote repair modules simultaneously (far less than the current logistics cruisers) very difficult. It would also require a few high slots, meaning they would have no need to mount more than 6 weapons even if given a full rack of 8 high slots. This would help maintain some balance and put a cap on their firepower since their hp totals as well as their large stats in general will likely be at least as large as tier 3 battleships.

The second bonus is of course debatable, but would likely be a racial weapon damage bonus. I don't think racial tanking bonuses would be good here, especially resistance bonuses, because that would really amp this ships spidertanking abilities to annoying levels.

In short, this would provide players with a ship capable of remote repair at usable ranges albeit at reduced quantities compared to current logistics ships, while not requiring them to sacrifice all other functionality on the battlefield (they could still fit weapons and tank, even if it would only be 80-90% as good as any other battleship).

It would also give us 4 new models to gawk at. Laughing

this idea + use the second battlecruiser model, that has a range boost and fitting requirement reduction to large reppers

your essentialy asking for a battleship sized Logistics ship.

thats pretty insane , but i like insane though maybe a T2 BS version of logistics might be in order?

How about a solo pwnmobile? 1800 DPS, 1000 DPS Tank, able to hit frigates and cruisers relatively easy.

I'm not sure how you can see this as a solopwnmobile. Current battleships can spidertank just as effectively as this ship could, they just have to stay within 8.4km to do it.

This gives a flexibility and convienence in range, nothing more. It also means sacrificing one of the bonuses the battleship would usually use for something else to help itself, which is what yields solopwnmobiles. This ability is designed to help other ships at the expense of its own cap and weapon count. At worst you're looking at building a ship that could be awesome at small gang warfare. Fleet warfare still instapops you, but in small gangs a spidertank could work quite effectively.

i agree . . . battleship RR gangs already work too well . . . whats next RR battleships with a -85% capital remote logistics PG need role bonus?

only if it gets resist bonuses and doubble damage bonuses too, else it will never compete fairly with MOM's

The problem with your proposal is, that battleships already are better than logistiks cruisers in RR and only advantage logisticks cruisers have is range. If you give some other subcapital ship that range advantage you will make logistiks cruisers pointless.

Any ideas on how the make the corresponding Caldari ship usefull?
Another shield recharger no one's going to use isn't what I was hoping for.ugh

Make tier 1 use EW instead of guns? Remove gun bonus on domi and make it a damp/droneship?

To make the bonus worth it, you'd also want to change slot layout a bit. More in line of 4/7/7 rather than todays 6/5/7, and then the Domi wouldn't be a Domi anymore. But hey, they could make a tier 4 full breed drone ship instead.Very Happy

This'd be better as tier 3 T2.
CommandShip variant of battleships like the Abaddon.
Which would probably end up being a Khanid failmissile tankerboat. Bleh.

I don't see why. For example astarte is clearly bigger and better brutix in every way, but it is nearly 10x that expensive, so player would think about taking the bigger better one on dayly pvp, think if he want to bring 10x sipmle brutix or 1 astarte. I don't know why eve is so hard trying to be so much rock/paper/scissor game. 5 years in future after several expansions going this way there will be like 100 kind of ships with 100 different roles, and if you want to counter all that you will have to bring another 100 member fleet. ( i know this is a social game, but i think there is too much rock/paper/scissor factor already )

I don't think Tier 4 Battleships should be Remote Repair ships.

If we need a new remote repair class, I'd recommend battle cruisers. Support BCs would be neat IMO, but a class of battleships specifically for remote repairs!? They'd far to slow, far to expensive, and yet still they'd be over abused if they were made powerful enough to survive a battle.

Also, CCP shouldn't add in any new remote repair classes until they fix the problem with empire grievers declaring war and then using repair ships from different corporations in empire. Since "chain of aggression" is buggy right now and doesn't allow for an entire force to shoot the ship once it starts repairing. (If your not in the war, you shouldn't be assisting in the war.)

A remote repair BS would be quickly destroyed by any wise FC, unless the BS was made super tough. If the BS was made super tough, than they would become the only BSes ever seen on the battlefield.

IMO: Tier 4 BS should be command BSes that are super tough, low DPS, and are able to use three command modules. The "Flag Ships" as people have been requesting.
